View Full Version : Sith Order, Senate Members and Diplomatic Jedi!

The Senate: String Pulling

I'm going to be starting a Senate thread in which I plan to bring up the idea of a diplomatic envoy to Corellia, to find out the exact political and social climate of the system belonging to the Sith Order.

Just an FYI to those with senate characters, to be on the lookout, and to think about your position on the Corellian system.

For the envoy itself (because I HOPE it'll be agreed that someone should go and find out what's going on in there) I hope to bring along a NR military representative, a Senate member (myself), and a diplomatic Jedi along the lines of Figrin D'an or even Morgan Evanar the liason to the Senate. The Jedi would be welcome to bring along one of their apprentices to assist, but only ONE.

And of course I want to give TSO heads up warning, so you can be thinking about how you'll greet the diplomatic envoy. :D

With a quick "no, don't go near Corellia"? For years, TSO hasn't wanted anyone going anywhere near that planet, IC or OOC. It's theirs, and IMO bringing along military personnel (the representative and the 2 Jedi) is indeed provocative. Diplomatic envoy indeed, this sounds more like a fact-finding mission and a precursor to an invasion.

As Darriann. So if I tried setting foot on my home planet after smuggling and serving with the NR army... I'd be shot on site, even if I had contacts there?

Senator Thareena

Ok then no military guy, that's fine. I was just thinking it up last night and it was late.

I imagine that there are people in the senate that don't believe that there really are sith in control, and Jedi diplomats are quite common.

*shrug* If you think it'll work better, then we can just send a non Jedi diplomat from the senate on a humanitarian mission to find out the status of the Corellian people. It all depends on how the Senate RPs it out when we decide whether or not to go, and who will go.

How I laid it out in the first post is how my character *has* to bring it up. The RP I linked to is the reason, and of *course* it sounde like a precourser to war, because the person pulling the strings wants to get rid of TSO forever, and if she has to use the NR to do it, then all the better.

The senate has been organized in a few, very lengthy OOC threads. I have taken the liberty of separating some pertinent information into a few threads in the Senate room in the Home One forum.

I complied the senator bios into one thread. If your Bio is not there, please PM it to me and I will add it. Thanks. :)

No, you wouldn't be shot on site. Granted, being a part of the NR or previously having been a part of them, you would be watched carefully. But you'd be more than free to come visit Corellia.

Ok, look, I have no prob with a diplomatic envoy coming to Corellia. I never said I did. Hell, I'm pretty sure the group would love to be involved in a RP.

I might even show up when I have some time. So, have at it.

Though I do have a legit question: Was there a Senator appointed to Corellia, or do we essentially have no voice in the senate? If yes, then whom and shouldn't we have been informed (I might have mised the memo)? And if not, can we appoint one?

Corellia, after all, does have a large body of people and it should have a voice... at least the way I see it.

In order to go with what's already been RPed, you'd have to be a new liason, not one that's always been there. I bet a good way to get a liason involved would be with this senate mission, greeting and showing the diplomatic peeps around Corellia...of course you can show us only what you want us to see. It's all politics bebe. :)

I think it's pretty much guarenteed they'd be denied. The Jedi wouldn't allow it to happen, and if the NR did somehow accept them for membership, the NR would risk alienating the Jedi to the point of the Jedi severing ties with the NR.

And I doubt NR leaders would want that.

That would be exceedingly foolish, unless you would want the combined power of the entire Jedi Order and the NR military brought down on Corellia.

I don't think that the NR would allow itself to be rotted out from within IC due to OOC considerations. The end that the Sith would be working towards would just end up becoming prohibited OOC.

That shouldn't necessarily stop them from trying, and potentially making an interesting series of RPs concerning it. So long as it's acknowledged that the actual collapse of the NR government won't happen, what's the problem?

Apparently, you don't read 90% of the RP threads on the board, then.

Just because there isn't governments collapsing, planets being destroyed, cats and dogs living together and mass hysteria, doesn't mean that there can't be reprecussions and lasting effects. There's plenty of room for such things within in the pretense of the RP.

I lack flexibility? Is that why I sacrificed everything I ever had in massive concessions to try and make the empire less overwhelming so the NR people would feel like they had a fighting chance? If anything, I'm the only flexible person at swfans! Name one thing that WASN'T sacrificed to try and get the republic and the jedi to do battle! I am getting upset over nothing, but not the nothing which you're referring to. I'm upset because my character is in an almost irretrievable situation, the empire is fractured, thousands of ships and imperial RPs were simply discarded, and the driving force behind giving all that up, the hope that the NR might come out of its shell and actually RP, is pretty much lost. We put everything on the line as a gesture of good faith, and in return we got 18 months of nothing, and now we have to pay for the consequences of our magnanimousness. We're up the creek, and our last concession was the bloody paddle.

If every planet had a Senator, your literally looking at a body of several million. No, it's by sector (say the Naboo sector) or importance (some planets like Kuat are incredibly important and justify a Senator) or by a body, like the Trade Federation. There would be some sort of presence for Coruscant, maybe not Senator level, but there would be one. However, one of the functions of the Senate is to govern Coruscant, so I am not sure one is needed.

Question :

why would the Republic allow a Senator from Corellia, when they are not part of the republic and also it is a known workd to be controlled by the Sith? They wouldnt even be allowed to have an observer. An offical representative, allowed on Coruscant, maybe. Other than that, especially as Corellia is Sith controlled... I would think the Jedi especially would view any Correllian officials with great suspicion.

Addressing the Senate direct? Very unlikely. I would view that Corellia and the Republic are in at best an unesay and uncertain truce. Jedi might be treated with caution, but Sith, considerign what they have done, would be viewed with outright hositility from most Republic citiziens.

Sorry if that throws a spanner in any plans, but that's how I woudl view the situatuion and I think you prbably need to take that into account, if it's not already done.

Dasquian Belargic
Mar 18th, 2004, 04:19:36 PM
This has already been taken into account, yup. We've discussed it and come to our conclusions and decisions. As I said, Warlock isn't an official senator yet - Corellia doesn't have one yet, but that's not to say that in the future it won't. You will probably have seen the post up about there being an envoy coming to Corellia to assess its current situation, which will be used in this plot.

But anyway, this isn't the topic of this thread, so we should probably end the discussion now. Sorry for the minor hijack, LD.

Figrin D'an
Mar 19th, 2004, 11:22:45 AM
The Senate is the governing body of the Republic. Corellia isn't part of the Republic. It therefore can't be officially representented in the Senate. You can have an ambassador to the Republic, who may or may not be allowed to view Senate sessions. An ambassador isn't likely going to be allowed to address the Senate proper... they would work through an official Senator, or through the Chancellor.

Rasha Vill wants to be (eventually) the ambassador from the Corellian System. THe PR person for the Sith Order, as it were. So if she arrives on vacation on Coruscant, unannounced...and we want to ask her about COrellia, would she be talking only to a special committee, as she can't address the entire Senate?

One of the two of you could meet up with Rasha, she is being shown around the halls and would likely want to be saved from the complete history of the senate building that she is getting told to her.

As for what Rasha wants, She wants to help corellia. I'm still not sure if I'll be the ambassador or if the sith are putting her in charge of corellia.

Well, an informal chat would be a good idea. Thareena is trying to get Corellian-NR relations off the ground so she could arrange a meeting with Hesith and some others (if we can find any).

Idea - I call Hesith, we arrange an informal meeting (complete with guards with yslamiri backpacks, just in case) and then we'll go from the meeting to Chambers and discuss Corellia. Rasha Vill isn't invited to address the Senate, as she isn't an official Ambassador and there really isn't any purpose in her doing so.

I think the proper course of action would be to let Miss Vill go about continuing her vacation, with a proper security escort for her protection, as well as our own.

Second Question: As the Senate doesn't know much about the Force, etc, at least not as a whole, would it be appropriate to ask for a Jedi to be present in Chambers to fill us in on what the Jedi percieve to be the real threat in Corellia?

... Or ask the appropriate senator with experience in such things?

ha haha, you're funny. :)

She does not speak for the Jedi Order, she speaks for Arcan IV, or am I mistaken?

LD has a point. Whilst acting as a Senator we should keep to representing the views/whishes of our own worlds. Helenias would not be in order to speak for the Jedi.

Didn't Figrin D'an act as Jedi adviser to the Senate in "Uproar in the Senate"? Perhaps he could fill us in.

I believe he is the liason from the GJO to the Senate, yes.

This is correct.

Morgan Evanar also has experience in this regard, working with Senate committees and such.

Note to Rasha Vill:

Show some patience and some class IC and you'll get along much better. :) Also, if you want to know what the Senate could be providing for you, check this OOC thread and ask some questions instead of making the Senate look like buffoons. Okay? :)

You are going to be escorted upstairs to a private conference room by some very polite people. Right now you are being escorted by the aide to the Chief of Staff.

You need to give Thareena and Hesith enough time to finish their conversation and for Thareena to contact and get permission from the CoS (this will not take too long, but may take a few more posts). Then they will come into your conference room (where you will be offered caf, tea, or whatever refreshment you desire). You will only be kept waiting about ten minutes.

I say ten because you RPed an entire tour while Hesith and Thareena had a two minute conversation. Please allow us enough time to catch up to where you are. :)

The senate has been organized in a few, very lengthy OOC threads. I have taken the liberty of separating some pertinent information into a few threads in the Senate room in the Home One forum.

I complied the senator bios into one thread. If your Bio is not there, please PM it to me and I will add it. Thanks. :)

Just a re-post of post #9 of this thread.

I'm sorry if is seemed a little quick to jump the gun on my little tantrum. But from what I gathered your conversation started after I started asking questions about Corellia.

Right now she is also not in a good mood, since she doesn't want to be where she is, she has a mild hanover from her night of drinking the day before, and she is running on 4 hours of sleep. So I think she has the right to be quick to being ticked off. I'll have her have more patience and some more class right after she can get her morning cup of caf. :)

But sorry for misunderstanding how long you conversation was taking.

However you want to play her personality is fine, don't let me dictate that to you, but please and thank you for showing some OOC patience waiting for us to catch up. :D

another question!

Does anyone who RPs in the senate think it'd be worthwhile having a Chief of State account registered? Not "leia organa" we can give the woman some other name, but I believe it would be helpful to our RPs if she was not NPCed all the time. And also, that means that the character would have a layer of protection against assassination attempts that she wouldn't have if she were just an NPC...

If we did I think the registered name should just be "Chief of State"

Go for it, I think we can have some fun with that.

I think it would be a good idea to have a separate account if we were to do alot of this kind of thread. But when it comes to Chambers it is better to have her NPC'ed- makes it easier to debates. I reckon we keep it as it is for now, and if this kind of thing becomes regular then we can create the account.

I think if we do have someone play the Chief of State...it should be someone who's online a lot...

I'd suggest asking Swfans.net to play the CoS if he'd be willing to. The person playing CoS would have to know a lot about the goings on, but there wouldn't be a TON of threads needing her, only the Senate threads, really. Barring that, I could, or if someone wanted to put the effort into making this a character that gets played a lot, I think that would be cool too.

I would suggest, when the time comes, we ask for volunteers and then have the existing senators vote on one??

Solution to the matter of a non-existant Senator from Selonia : she's not a senator, but as she was visiting Coruscant on some political business she was asked to provide another opinion on the Sith situation, and agreed to. Think that'll work, Dasq? And we can change her name to Consul Mhras if you like.

That's fine by me :) I'll make the changes.
