With only a few alternatives to anti fighter warfare the need for better weapons against multiple, fast, moving targets was at an all time high. So the “Rain drop M4” was designed. The idea of the missile has its roots in most common weaponry including: shotgun shells, fragmentation grenades, even closer in comparison is the mon calamari cluster bomb.

The Missile starts out bullet shaped from its tip to about 1/3 the way down. Then it begins to bulge out into an ever-expanding rectangle until it reaches its base where it rounds into a large circle again. Like most experimental weapons that go through various stages of testing this one no different, although less difficult then past projects. Nearly every experimental design was refined and can still be put to use as a viable weapon.

The missile works much like a shot gun projectile would, exploding and fanning out varying size spheres to deal damage in one form or another. This is where the great ability to do multiple tasks comes in. The spheres vary largely in types, with only 2 types being energy related.

Sphere types. The majority of the spheres are wrapped in a light metallic covering with various diodes emitting light over the surface, the color depends on the sphere type. The non-energy-based spheres have magnetized plates that home in on their targets hull. The explosive yield of the spheres vary with type, but one missile salvo from a “nebula” designated Tear drop missile had devastating effects on a test subject decommissioned frigate…and its surroundings

-Researches comment- After one ill fated live fire trial where a missiles sphere content decided its target was too far away to pursue and began to home in on the Star destroyer that fired it we have made several changes to the programming. The spheres will no longer home in on ships bearing the same transponder signals. The spheres are still dangerous to run into for friendlies, obviously.

Sphere types-

High Yield explosive Spheres- Emitting Orange light diodes from the surface, the name basically says it all. The Explosive yields vary depending on Mark. Mark 1 Explosive Spheres doing the most damage, enough to tear chunks from capitol class battle ship reinforced hulls with ease. Mark 5 doing the least, enough to disable or destroy fighters or riddle a capitol class ships hull with minor damage.

Reapers maw Sphere- Emitting red light diodes from the surface the Reapers maw Sphere is possibly the most destructive and dangerous. Each sphere is acts as a sophisticated seismic charge, When it detonates it causes an implosion that sucks in all matter even sound in an instant. In essence it creates a mini black hole. But because the black hole is not stable it will explode a few seconds after detonation. The explosion throws out all matter with great speed. A shock wave is created that move’s outward from the place were it explodes. This shock wave runs out of power a kilometer from its origin, causing massive destruction in its path. The spheres are all usually linked together on a common timer detonating in unison to create multiple destructive shock waves.

Researcher notes-Best used at maximum distance. Or make sure shields are well enough to absorb the combined effect of every spheres massive shock wave. Recommending that no fighters be near the vicinity when the weapon is launched.

Fragmentation Sphere- Emits Silver color diodes over its surface. The fragmentation nick named “Star dust” because of its visual effect is a very effective anti fighter/ ballistics weapon. The fragmentation Sphere becomes in several specialties…F-1, Dealing with Anti Fighter control. The missile explodes close to its mother ship, sending a spray of several hundred or thousand (depending on the missile casing type) Fragmentation spheres outward in an ever expanding wedge. The fragmentation spheres then explode once more sending jagged shards of very dense alloys. The effect is both beautiful as it is deadly…the sight taken in by most of the researches is best described as a blanket of glitter showering over stars. The effect of this “star dust” is very destructive to any fighter unlucky enough to be caught near an exploding sphere or flying through the dust left by a sphere. The shards can quickly shred a tie defender to an unidentifiable carcass in only seconds.

B-1 Fragmentation Spheres deal with Turbolaser, torpedo, laser, and missile fire in much the same way as the F-1. Exploding outward in a defensive wedge from the missile and once again the spheres explode into star dust, the only difference being, in the B-1 The alloys are not jagged but very absorbent cubes, meant to take energy blasts and missile hits instead of the ship. Acting much like a 3rd disposable shield. The thicker the cloud of spheres the better defense it will give.

Researcher notes- B-1 Spheres are not recommended during battle as they can damage allied fighters and also block the mother ships own offensive capabilities. Leaving the ship that fired the missile unable to fire through the cloud of Star dust until the cloud dissipates or is destroyed. Generally recommended during retreat, firing through aft ports or as an alternative emergency shielding.

Transmitter distortion Sphere- These spheres emit a bright yellow diode color over their surfaces. Each globe is fitted with a small generator capable of transmitting over a very long distance, depending on its calibration. A cloud of distortion spheres work in tandem as each sphere’s emits a “spamming” transmission source, flooding all fields of carrier waves. Making external and sometimes internal communications impossible. The Spheres jamming capabilities are highly adaptive, sucking or over flowing transmission waves to the point where it becomes impossible to filter.


Researcher note- The high amount of transmissions being forced through space by these clouds of jamming spheres has been known to commonly effect droid’s of all type, rendering their internal processors flooded with access information. This effect on a droid can vary from shut down to overload to simply a pause in function or a period of time. On a side note the team had to use shuttles to communicate to the other star ships in the area. A roughly 1 hour test took the better part of the day to complete.

Electromagnetic pulse Spheres- Electromagnetic pulse. A pulse of electromagnetic energy capable of disrupting computers, Computer networks, and many forms of telecommunication equipment. In essence this is what the EMP Sphere accomplishes. After the missile casing explodes releasing a cloud of these EMP spheres, several detonations may occur depending on their settings: Proximity to electronic devices, light scanning abilities allows the spheres to read electronic signals in their proximity. If this occurs the spheres began detonate when they reach effective range. The second detonation technique is done by a simple timing of the device from the missiles explosion and distance to the target/targets. Each sphere emits a light blue diode color over its surface. As well each globe is outfitted with a sleeper timer, and several back up systems allowing it to detonate while in the presence of its brothers and sisters. If the systems detect a failure of the primary it detonates automatically ensuring its use before its back up systems are disabled. The range of the emp blasts vary depending on the missiles settings. Useful against fighters, Starships and droid guided weaponry alike.

Researchers note- Large clouds of these Spheres have been very effective.

Plasma globe- In simplest manners of explanation, Plasma globes are incased in a bright orange casing that induces a strict inner energy field to incase the searing plasma within. These remain to be the only dangerous version of the Spheres because of its volatile nature of super heated plasma. The spheres must be armed before firing by arming the missile casing, which in turn sends a signal to arm the spheres within. If they are not armed and the spheres come in contact with a ship or fighter the casing will likely crack or even shatter but the energy field will hold the plasma for until it can no longer operate. If the Sphere is armed the polarity of the energy shield is changed and when the casing is destroy the energy shield manages to spray the plasma over a distance before the shield once again can no longer operate. The plasma globe is highly effective in all arenas of combat from offensive to defensive capabilities.





Missile Casing Types.


Star Carver-The first Raindrop missile was nicknamed the Star carver because of the shape it took. This missile casing sprays its pay load into a star fish like pattern that spirals toward its intended target.

Researchers note- Best used at Captains discretion, most likely to break enemy fleet formations.

Nebula- The Nebula casing simply discharges its pay load into a thick cloud. Density and spread of the cloud is programmed before launch.

Researchers note- Best used defensively as anti fighter support or anti ballistics.

Black hole- The black hole casing is used for concentrated fire. As the casing simply explodes, firing its pay load over a restricted radius keeping the spheres very dense and concentrated.

Researchers note- Best used against capitol ships because of their slow maneuverability and high percentage for maximum effectiveness of sphere cloud.
