The platoon moved in on the scattered buildings from behind the embankment. The enemy positions and strength where not known. 1st section would lead the assault, 2nd close behind and 3rd in reserve waiting near their APC’s. 1st section consisted of Cpl Bucknall, Lance Cpl Haskard and Ptes Duarate, Bewing, Penton, Goble, Celder, Bain, Catlow, Gibb, Wenham and Shaw.
Shaw opened fire with his Light repeating blaster. The others threw smoke grenades and charged the nearest building. The sentries fell under Shaw’s fire. Grenades were thrown through the window; followed by two soldiers. “ Room clear!”
The house echoed with shouts and shots as 1st moved upstairs. There was a final, “ room clear!”
Now the section suppressed the enemy across the other side of the rubble-strewn field. It was 2nds turn to assault.
