Now, I'm sure its apparent how much I love this game anyway, so the point's moot on that. Now, I got C&C Zero Hour, expansion to C&C Generals. Sometimes expansion packs are a mixed bag. You don't know if what you're getting is good or if it will suck.

Let me come on the record and say: It does not suck.

And here's one reason why.

Say hello to the USS Daedalus carrier battle fleet. You get to use her services for at least one level. Five cruiser salvos every 15 seconds and up to 6 F-22 airstrikes at each click of a mouse. The power of a god, in your hands.

<img src=http://www.panic.hopto.org/swf/charley/generals/fleet2.jpg>

Here's another shot of the Daedalus's flight deck. At my count, 18 F-22's at your evil fingertips, with a good bit more on sorties or beneath the flight deck.

I hate Generals...

Take a good Consept of aSci-Fi RTS From another company and remove the Sci-Fi, and the Good!

It just doesn't work for me... I remember Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 too much I guess.

EA just tried to make it more of a Real-World RTS but failed, so it added back in just enough Sci-Fi to make it a little different and it still doesn't work.

EA just ruined one of my favorate games.

What.

Generals is fantastic. One of the best RTS's I've played. The forces are extremely asymmetric and fight in different ways, and the graphics are spectacular. I assume you're referring to the recent Dune RTS, and I'll tell you straight up that it has nothing on Generals whatsoever.

What makes Generals an improvement over Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 is the attention to detail. The sheer amount of customization ensures that you can always form a unique strategy. I do indeed believe you are out of your ever-loving mind.

Oh, and here's a B-2 Spirit bombing the crap out of some GLA infantry and a SAM site

<img src=http://www.panic.hopto.org/swf/charley/generals/b2bombrun.jpg>

Here's a Specter gunship (roughly based on the AC-130 gunship) pummeling a SAM site with 20mm chaingun, 40mm bofors gun, and a 120mm artillery piece. I love this plane.

<img src=http://www.panic.hopto.org/swf/charley/generals/gunship.jpg>

Here's a GLA tank getting plinked by a F-117 Stealth Bomber. Its hard to see, but the tank is airborne from the explosion. Bunker buster munitions, besides killing garrisonned infantry in structures, will also launch some targets sky high :cool

How many times did it take to finally blow that GLA site? A Spectre and a B-2 seems like overkill.

They rebuild often.

Why were guys with stingers able to detect and fire at a B-2 Spirit? I thought those things emit high-powered anti-polaron fields, thus rendering them optically invisible.

EA just ruined one of my favorate games. Its funny, because Tiberian Sun is widely considered to be the bastard red-headed stepchild of the C&C games. Its vile. Its also pretty much the only game I regret spending my money on. I didn't bother with RA2 because I just didn't like it.

Generals is pretty rad though.

The SAM site can detect stealth units. However, it doesn't matter, as my planes are equipped with electronic countermeasures that keep the first few shots away.

Here's a B2, delivering the MOAB (Mother of all Bombs) onto a GLA command center, and the small force nearby. Notice the sparkling objects in the B2's wake. Those are anti-missile countermeasures, keeping RPG's away.

I like to build multiple particle cannons and use them along with a nice Specter Gunship attack and a fuel bomb to deliver the killer blow. And its pretty cool how you can guide the aprticle cannons path to take out multiple targets - great for a defensive line of SAM sites or Chinese bunkers.

Particle cannons are a lifesaver in the Generals battle when you fight General Townes on his home turf. He's situated in a pentagon-shaped fortress, which is lined on all sides by a few dozen laser defense batteries. A good defensive strategy for a moment will allow you the time to burn away an entire section of the fort's defenses, and then you can rush in and pillage his power grid.

Nope, I didn't like Generals. I thought they had taken the game and turned it into the Unreal Tournament of the RTS world. You can take the enemy out with what ever you think is stronger in the Single Player... But in Multiplayer, which is the heart of Generals, you'll have to adjust your tactics accordingly, or else you'll find yourself being taken down by the enemies infrantry while all you have is a Nuke.

As for Dune... Those were classic RTS games, one of which, Emperor of Dune, was the first 3d RTS that I got to play (I think Ground Control from Serria was the first true 3d RTS). It was long, but a lot of fun. Generals just wasn't fun and really didn't intorduce anything that was new.

You've lost your mind if thats what you think, then.

No, I'm very highly critical of this game. It didn't live up to it's hype! Like I said earlier they wanted it to be the new "sport" game like Unreal Tournament is. Unfortunally that wasn't making money, hence the radically different Expansion Pack. It's not an expansion as much as it's a new game using the same game engine. (Otherwise known as a MOD!)

If your just finding out about the game now, your a few years late.

I've been playing it for over a year, captain wiseguy. I just got my computer put back together and snagged the expansion.
