SureShot 500 Cannon
The Federal Bureau of Military Affairs contracted several hundred independent scientists and engineers on the Star Dust space station for a special job. This project turned into the SureShot 500, named for the 500 scientists and engineers that ended up doing the research and for the immense accuracy of the weapon.
The theory behind the weapon is that destructive ions in a cubatom alignment can do severe damage to other energy-oriented particles. During the test phase of the weapon several scientists died from the massive electrical fields produced from the firing of the cannon. The completed model includes heavy shielding around the barrel and even heavier shielding surrounding the compressor chambers.
Due to the relative power of each blast cheap disposable shells are used rather than feeding from the power source of the craft/platform. Each shell contains a storage battery with an ample supply of cubatom ions—the ions are actually very dense suspended electrons kept in orbit by a thick cloud of protons in the center of the cube.
Each shell has a single focusing crystal, made from cubatoms, that burns out after the shot. The spent casings are recycled after use.
Strong electromagnets traverse and angle the weapon. The weapon is loaded by a feed allowing rapid firing. Each beam is very narrow and compressed. The generally accepted tactic is to fire staggered, forcing the opposing shield to quickly adapt to multiple targets in a small area.

History
With upcoming war and the need for home security, the Federay Bureau of Military Affairs commissioned the Polemo-class semi-mobile platform. The idea behind the defensive structure was that it could move independently to captured or controlled worlds and secure the area without the need for a massive and costly fleet.
