View Full Version : I'm starting a liquor collection, and need your help

Charley
Jan 14th, 2004, 08:18:33 PM
Well, one thing that I'm able to do thanks to Atkins is not drink. Booze is loaded with carbs, so I'm grounded until mid Febuary at the earliest. Thus, all the money I usually spend on routine drinking is going towards a more noble cause:

I'm going to start buying extremly high quality liquor, and try to make a collection.

Currently, my "bar" is only stocked with two bottles:

<a href=http://www.internetwines.com/pa28704.html>Maker's Mark Bourbon</a>
and
<a href=http://store.yahoo.com/randalls/mh886114.html>Herradura Tequila Reposado</a>

Right now, I'm contemplating what I want in my collection. Well drink liquor needn't apply. I'm only interested in top shelf, the kind of stuff you drink sparingly, and either neat, on the rocks, or in a shot. Since I'm naturally a whiskey fan, most of my choices are trending toward the brown stuff. However, there's other good stuff out there, and I want some input from people on what they prefer, so I can at least sample it and see if I want to include it.

Currently, here are my future hopefuls:
<a href=http://www.internetwines.com/rws28642.html>Jack Daniels Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey</a>
<a href=http://store.yahoo.com/randalls/pa49753.html>Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey</a>
<a href=http://www.internetwines.com/mb311524.html>Knob Creek Bourbon</a>
<a href=http://www.internetwines.com/mb110404.html>Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey</a>
<a href=http://www.internetwines.com/glen15year.html>Glenfiddich 15 year single malt scotch whiskey</a>

Any advice is appreciated :cool

Thanks.

Oh, I could go for a Tom Collins using some Bombay Sapphire right now.

I advocate Bombay Sapphire as well.

If your going for vodka make sure its black smirnoff :)

Charley
Jan 15th, 2004, 08:40:30 AM
I'll need to get a little bottle of Bombay Sapphire. I've generally avoided gin like the plague, so I need to try this out first.

Budweiser.

Oh come on, it'd be funny to have a bottle of that in there :)

There will be no schnapps in my cabinet. If there are, it will be Rumpel Minz only, and for the sole reason of making Liquid Cocaine.

hehe, my teachers at the bartending school i went to told me some horror stories about liquid cocaine/screaming nazis/silver bullets. as it is, i refuse to drink rumbel mintz and jaeger.

i do endorse knob creek though. tis verra good stuff :)

i like vodka the best (and if you say anything about being a commie, so help me god ;) ), and want to try finlandia. i usually setlle for smirnoff though, cause its my favorite brand that i can afford.

Charley
Jan 15th, 2004, 12:24:34 PM
I'm probably going to wind up buying Belvedere for my vodka choice. It comes pretty highly recommended.

And trust me, Christin...you would like liquid cocaines. I hate schnapps, Jager, and 151 by themselves, but together, they're a slice of yum.

This is true for me as well. It's rather amazing how well they combine.

Pierce Tondry
Jan 15th, 2004, 12:37:56 PM
Really? I'll have to try this combo sometime. Is it particularly expensive?

Incidentally, I think a small bottle of Sapphire will run you about 8 to 10 bux depending on where you buy it.

Charley
Jan 15th, 2004, 12:45:20 PM
Depends on how much you're wanting to serve, Brian.

A fifth of each will end up costing you about $100 total, but then you're set for maybe 2 or 3 parties.

I drank nothing but liquid cocaine and jagerbombs for 2003 new years. 11 shots of LC and 4 jagerbombs. That wasn't even a dent in the liquor stock, and I had to be carried inside afterwards.

Also, if you're extremely blitzed or crazy, you can pour a lot of 151 in your mouth, light a lighter, spit into the flame, and become a human flamethrower. I do this from time to time. Only burned myself once.

i usually just do vodka and tequila shots. havent had anything fancy in a long time when it comes to shots.

though, i will have an lc if you have a muff diver >D

Charley
Jan 15th, 2004, 01:08:14 PM
If you like tequila (and I generally don't), try the Herradura tequila I got. Its a party in your mouth.

Ingredients for a Muff Diver
1 part Kahlua
1 part Amaretto
1 part Irish cream
Whipped cream

:lol that is the pantiest of panty shots I've ever seen.

Deal.

Update:

I bought a bottle of Captain Morgans Private Stock dark rum, a bottle of Grey Goose vodka, and a bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin.

Up next, Knob Creek and Glenfiddich gift sets, $35 each.

Its either Whiskey or Whisky. But use an H when you type it.

And if I'm buying Canadian Whiskey, its gonna be Crown. Haven't had anything better from up there, including what you suggested.

Charley

BTW, had a shot of Private Stock last night, and thats probably the best tasting 80 proof I've ever had. So sweet and good.

The thought of the words "Sweet" and "80 Proof" together in a sentance is just wrong. >_<

Trust me Holly, its fantastic.

Another update:

Went out and did more shopping. I now have:

Makers Mark
Gentleman Jack
Glenlivet
Captain Morgan's Private Stock
Herradura Reposado
Belvedere
Bombay Sapphire

My next purchase will probably be either Crown, Knob Creek, or both.

Crown is liquid candy and 151 does the trick...

Sanis Prent
Jan 30th, 2004, 07:58:03 PM
I agree on Crown. You really can't find a whiskey thats smoother. Sure, it doesn't have as much alcohol content, but if you're just up for a good sipping whiskey (Don't mix the stuff or I'll kill you), then it works very well. The only excuse anybody should have for mixing Crown is to make a red snapper, which if I remember, is Crown, Amaretto, 7-up, and Cranberry Juice. That's a tasty shot to have.

151 on the other hand...hmmm.

There are only two drinks made with that vileness that I'd recommend:

Liquid Cocaine (Jager, 151, Rumple Minze) - Very good, very strong shot.

252 (151, Wild Turkey 101, and a splash of cranberry juice) - Kills the strongest of men. Scary drink.

If anything, 151 is worth buying just for the ability to spit fireballs when you spit a mouthful of the stuff towards an open flame. Human flamethrower ahoy!

I'm so trying the fireball spitting thing! That sounds awesome...

Loklorien s'Ilancy
Feb 16th, 2004, 05:44:45 PM
actually, i wouldnt mind trying a 4 horsemen

3/4 oz Jose Cuervo Tequila
3/4 oz Jagermeister
3/4 oz Rumple Minze
3/4 oz Bacardi 151 Proof Rum

or a 4 horsemen #2

1/4 oz Jim Beam Bourbon Whiskey
1/4 oz Jack Daniel's
1/4 oz Johnnie Walker Red Label
1/4 oz Jose Cuervo Tequila

of course i may be signing my own death certificate with those, but i dont care :)

Schnapps. Goldschlager, in particular. Its retch-worthy. Ever since I binged on it my freshman year, the smell does me in each time.

I had it once. It didn't impress me. Do you know how to make a Buttery Nipple? Good drink right there.
