Well, I had to go against the leaders and take way too many road teams, but it's late in the season and I've got to make up some ground. I'll either crash and burn or make up some ground.:x

Glad to see that I was one of only 2 people that took the Bears at home vs the sinking Vikings. :D
Of course whatever good I made up there was lost by the foolish gamble of taking the Steelers. They give up 6 points TOTAL and can't win. They're a disaster.

That was a fun game to watch. That field looked GREAT!

I am glad my Chiefs finally woke up, they have been taking it easy on oppunents in my opinion. Not using Holmes, playing very conservative and not run up the score. Now they wake up I think they will beat the Vikings and Bears to clinch at least a first round bye. As for the Vikings I wonder if they will make the playoffs at this rate. They are in a downward spiral.

I'll put the week's numbers up after Monday Night Football tomorrow evening. Needless to say, everyone had a pretty good week. I don't think anyone will have worse than a 11-4 record heading into the Monday Night game.

Hell yeah! :D

What does everyone think of Joe Horn's antics last night after scoring a TD? In case anyone missed it, he made a TD catch, then ran over to the padded pole that houses the uprights and yanked out a cell phone.

This is very much along the lines of what Terrell Owens did with the sharpie last season. And my opinion of Horn's behavior last night night is the same as what I thought of the sharpie incident: disgusting. There's nothing that irritates me more than an athlete in a team sport that feels the need to draw attention to himself and away from his team. What a knucklehead. I absolutely despise the 'look at me, look at what I did, look how good I am, I'm a STAR' attitude that engulfs so many players these days, in any sport. And to anyone who says 'He's just having fun in a league where players are expected to fall in line' I say BS!!!!

Why pull a stunt like that after you score a TD? Why not do it after you miss a catch? Or after you make a 5 yard reception? Or when one of your mates does something? Nope, he made a TD catch and decided he was going to make that moment not about the guy who had thrown the ball, the guys who protected the guy who threw the ball, the other receivers running routes and getting pummeled, no, he was determined to make that moment all about himself and no other.

Instead of premeditating something like that, shouldn't time before a game be used to study opponents strategies, practice etc? Apparently I'm wrong. [/rant]

What about the Chad Johnson: "Dear NFL, Please don't fine me again" sign?

That one was actually pretty funny. I laughed when I saw it.

The Joe Horn cell phone thing was lame.

What irked me most though, was the post-game interview. Horn essentially said he didn't care if he was fined for it, and that it was completely worth whatever punishment he's given. That's just being completely pompous and arrogant.

JMK
Dec 15th, 2003, 04:27:50 PM
I hope they find an alternate method of punishment. Either much stiffer fines, or forcing them into many community assistance hours (like the way some players volunteer in the United Way). Worse yet, I wish the refs had the power to cancel the extra point attempt AND add 20 yards to the kickoff. Hell, why not just nullify the touchdown? I guarantee the first time it happened, it would be the last.

Both Johnson and Horn are going to get fined. Back to the games, the Fins managed to answer that first quick strike by the Eagles. After that Fiedler INT I was fearing the worst. I picked the Eagles tonight, but I'd much rather see the Dolphins win tonight, screw the picks.

The Dolphins need to win and while the defense is usually bang on, they look asleep out there. Who the hell taught these clowns how to tackle? My Grandmother? Probably not because at least then she would have had them beat the opponents with their purses.

Wow I'm torn, the Pats already have the East locked up but the Phins are a tough team who could do well in the Playoffs so I want them to lose. On the other hand I picked them to win in my Yahoo League, and I'm only 2 games out of the top 10 for the entire Yahoo League so if the Phins win I may gain a game and sneak in.

Anyone gonna make a pre-emptive Superbowl Pick?

I'm picking a 2001 Superbowl Rematch, Patriots vs Rams. This times the Pats won't be a 21 Point Underdog and will be favored and go on to win it 38-21 on the strength of their defense and 3 turnovers.

Ok so thats a long ways away but what the heck!

I think this is the year that two teams that no one expects to make the Super Bowl face off for all the marbles. The dreaded "p"-word is the most dominant factor this year by far, and all that's going to matter is who gets hot in these final couple of weeks.

Just one of those easy to pick weeks :)

Oh I'd say the Pats have no better(and this may be generous) than a 50/50 chance at the Superbowl this year, everything is so up in the air that we could see a Titans vs Panthers Superbowl.

It will definetly be fun to see who gets hot in the playoffs and makes the push. The Colts could be scary regardless of where they're playing, with the year he's having I could see Manning just tear up the two AFC teams they play and then dominate the Superbowl.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 16th, 2003, 09:22:28 AM
I have my doubts the Colts can win in the cold of Foxboro or Arrowhead, but that is just me.

jjwr
Dec 16th, 2003, 10:52:13 AM
I agree for the most part but with the way this season has gone I wouldn't rule anything out.

Sadly the Pats still have two very tough games, at the Jets and vs the Bills and if they lose even one of those they will most likely end up as the 2nd seed.

Ace McCloud
Dec 16th, 2003, 12:18:49 PM
I doubt you need to worry about buffalo in that matter though. The Colts beat the Titans and the Titans beat the Bills. Though thats a really crappy assumption...I wouldn't worry about it.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 16th, 2003, 01:25:48 PM
It be the Jets because the Jets have given the Pats fits in Giants stadium. Still the Chiefs will have to beat the Vikings Saturday to give them a chance at homefield. They can but it is not guarenteed.

Ryan Pode
Dec 16th, 2003, 03:55:23 PM
Ravens will go to the superbowl. My logic is:

Bengals go to St. Louis and lose, Ravens win next two. Its a Ravens/Bronco's wildcard game, in Baltimore, Ravens win. Ravens travel to Tennesse and win, then they travel to Indianapolis (who will have beaten the Pats) and the Ravens hate the Colts (for obvious reasons) and slaughter them.

JMK
Dec 16th, 2003, 06:30:01 PM
That's all well and good, but how can the wildcard game be in Baltimore? Aren't the Broncos ahead of them right now? What's the tie breaker situation between them?

And what makes you think they will beat masters of cold weather like The Patriots, in Foxboro?

Ryan Pode
Dec 16th, 2003, 07:31:08 PM
Bronco's are behind. Miami is ahead. And the Colts will pwn the Pats because Peyton Manning sold his soul to the devil.

JMK
Dec 16th, 2003, 10:43:16 PM
http://www.nfl.com/standings/conference

Bronco's are behind Incorrect, Broncos have the last wildcard spot and are ahead of the Ravens and Dolphins. Miami is #7 and Baltimore is 8th. The Ravens won't get the wildcard spot now, their only hope is to overtake Cincinnati for the division lead.

And Manning has never won anything of significance, there's no reason to think he will ever win in NE in the cold. Unless he really did sell his soul to the devil.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 16th, 2003, 11:41:18 PM
Actually Baltimore could win the wild card, here is a possibility. Cincinatti wins last two games wins the division. Baltimore wins last two games. Denver loses at Green Bay finishes 10-6 tied with Baltimore but Baltimore beat Denver this year so Baltimore would be in and Denver would be out. Not sure what a three way tie between Miami-Denver-Baltimore would look like.

JMK
Dec 17th, 2003, 12:01:30 AM
Of course that could happen, but I'm not going to assume that's going to happen. I'd say if either the Ravens or Dolphins were going to get the last WC from Denver, it would be Miami. They have Buffalo and the Jets left.

Here's how I see it breaking down, slightly skewed from being a Dolphins fan. ;)

Denver: loses both road games to Indy & Green Bay to finish 9-7
Miami: Wins in Buffalo and beats the Jets @ home to finish 10-6
Baltimore: wins @ Cleveland and at home vs Pittsbugh to finish 10-6 and tie Miami.

They will both have 10-6 records and 7-5 conference records so there's a tie there. But the Dolphins beat the Ravens in their only meeting this year so the Fish would get in. A lot of things have to happen first though, namely Denver needs to lose at least once and Miami & Baltimore need to win both.

Baltimore is in the toughest spot out of the 3 because they need BOTH Miami and Denver to lose at least one game each AND hope they win both of their games, which given the competition shouldn't be too hard. But their hope can also lie in taking the division because Cincinnati is in St. Louis and at home to Cleveland to finish the season. The Ravens would need the Bengals to lose one game in order to overtake them in the North. If the Bengals went 1-1 in their last 2, they'd finish 9-7 and be out of the playoffs altogether if Baltimore wins both and Miami wins both. And I don't see the Bengals winning in St. Louis this coming week.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 17th, 2003, 09:05:13 AM
Who would get it if there was a three tie? I also agree with you I think the point will be moot because Cincinnatti will lose to the Rams. I also think Denver will lose theire last two games too. I can't see them winning at Green Bay at all and I don't think they can win at Indy.

JMK
Dec 17th, 2003, 09:14:35 AM
I'm not sure what happens in a 3 way tie. I guess best conference record would win in that case. It would have to because Miami didn't play Denver this year so it wouldn't be fair to go to head to head matchups. Maybe they go down to points differential or division record? I really don't know.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 17th, 2003, 09:20:40 AM
strength of schedule maybe I know there are like 6-7 different tie breakers.

jjwr
Dec 17th, 2003, 12:42:02 PM
The tie breakers definetly get complicated when 3 teams go head 2 head. Conference record comes into play as well as strength of schedule and all that.

The Pats are possibly in the same situation with the Chiefs & Colts, there is a situation where if all 3 end up tied the Pats could end up the #3 seed, which would be bad.

As for Baltimore, I gotta cheer against them, with the Pats holding their #1 pick every extra loss is a bonus for the Pats.
