I wonder if it can hang around until the Oscars. It's sure to get a boost there but it needs to keep some momentum before March.

ROTK is now 767 WW. 455 Intl, 312 USA. Should outertake FOTR this week domestic, two weeks Intl. With Japan, Italy and few other smaller markets to open, there's still at least 200 million left at the minimum. Let alone the 50 million in USA at least.

TTT intl was 293 at this same point.

....

ROTK is leading by 150 million?!?!?!?!

If it only makes 200, it wont beat TTT overall.

That info is old by about a week. Note the total I give, which is current and that link do not match.

Note now BOM has updated info on their site as of this evening - you can now get a handle on just how much faster ROTK has got dollars than it's two predessessors.

It could pass 800 million in a month!!!

With ROTK now on 787 Million WW after a month (A month! WTF!), past FOTR total Domestic and only 26 million behind TTT 24 behind Nemo, it will become the No 1 movie of the year. Hooray! The race for 1 billion continues.....

Here's that little blurb AMC had put infront of the film about Trilogy tuesday. Streaming media.

The only reason I'm posting this is because a certain poster around here made a big deal about it because she appears in it. :mneh

Rotk now stands at 329 million USD and something 495 Intl, giving 824 WW. It has now entered the top 10 in Domestic, Intl and WW. It is presently 25% higher WW than what TTT was at this time. ROTK is now only 10 million off Finding Nemo for No 1 movie of the year, Domestic and WW. That should be achieved next weekend.

we can now see ROTK's legs will be better than TTT. Maybe as good as what FOTR's were? If that's the case, 400 million domestic is not out of the question. Added to a probable 650 - 700 million Intl take I am now going with a 1.1 billion WW total as the top end. I cant see ROTK falling short of 1 billion, it's got too much left and Japan and Italy still yet to open, which will add at least 100 million before the Oscars.

It's ME!!! ^_^

I was wondering how I could get a hold of that!! Thanks Figsters!! :D

Now, if it's streaming media... how to actually copy it...

Maybe that should be my new quote... "Very Elven" :lol

$876,536,363 !!!

ROTK beats FTOR WW total and claims Intl champ for 2003. 337 Domestic says ROTK claims 2003 Domestic this week. ROTK is tracking 25% higher than TTT was at this point last year. Now with big GG wins and Oscar noms a-coming, there should be a small boost - but what''s really going to matter is that ROTK will gain the type of staying power FOTR had. I'm still finding this type of Box office takings surreal. I wonder if New Line looks at ROTK and thnik their hookers and drugs are paid for for life just by ROTK alone?

What a payoff for them however - 300 million gamble, get something they could only have dreamed of. well over 2 billion on Box office and who knows how much in tie ins, licenceing, Video, DVD, TV rights....

The latest INTL numbers have ROTK at $888,036,215 and it still has Japan left. It looks like it's only a matter of time before it reaches $1B.

ROTK to beat TPM, TTT and Jurassic Park BEFORE it's released in Japan? Now that'll be quite an effort!

On other LOTR Box office news, TTT has finally beaten TPM WW.

BOW TO THE KING!! ROTK NO1 DOMESTIC!

I just watched ROTK again. The scene where Barad-dûr falls and the Lidless Eye explodes in the view from afar is so incredibly moving to me. More than 7,000 years of suffering the black will of the enemy, and Sauron is destroyed in an instant. The music fits it perfectly. :cry

$918 million and Japan STILL hasn't opened! $572,774,454 Intl matched with 345 million domestic and superb holds. ROTK is definalty performing more like FOTR. There is no doubt ROTK will over take Jurrasic Park, TPM and TTT for No 3 WW this week. HP:COS will be gone the week after, when Japan opens on Feb 12. My prediction is that ROTK will pass 1 Billion WW within three weeks.

Final total projections - Domestic 385 million, Intl 738 million. Total, 1.123 billion.

I feel those prejections will be low, especially with some more of my cash goign to the RTOK bank this weekend.

And in this week's report, we note that ROTK has now overtaken Jurassic Park, TPM and TTT to be No 3 WW ever on 946 million, with Japan yet to open. Potter will be gone by this time next week, leaving ROTK to be No 2 all time WW.

Domesically, Jurrassic Park will be gone this week, leaving ROTK at No. 6 all time. It may make 405 million, but I doubt it, meaning that ROTK will say at No 6. But who knows, could be a an Oscars boost

edit : And with 985.9 million, including now 358.0 million Domestic (beating Jurassic Park) and 627.9 million (No 3 all time Intl), ROTK now has beaten Harry Potter to take second WW of all time. Looks like ROTK will sail past 1 billion WW by the Acadamy awards.

RotK becomes the 2nd movie to ever pass the 1 billion dollar mark. Congrats to Jackson, cast and crew, WETA and New Line Cinema. A great achievement on the week before it's the favorite to win Best Picture.

Last update - seems pointless to go on now so many major spots have been obtained.

It now is....

1) No 1 for 2003 WW and domestic and Internatonal

2) $1,027,210,705 total, No 2 all time World wide

3) $663,095,093 International, now making it No 2 Intl of all time.

4) won just about every award possible.

5) No 6 domestic, with a possible shot at 400 million

2003 was NOT the year of The Matrix, it was the Year the King Returned. What a ride it's been.
