Ishmel had arrived late the night before, and the sun was just now peeking over the walls of Iziz. The palace, on the central hill of the city, was bathed in a golden glow.
His room was small, containing a bed, closet, and desk. On the desk his comm chirped, waking him up.

"What the...?"
Ishmel slowly sat up and stared at the comm on the desk. Morning already? He'd been shown the room after arriving and collapsed once he had easily found the bed in the cramped room. It wasn't too bad now that he got a look at it. Reminded him a lot of his apartment back on Coruscant. He took his time getting to the desk, stretching slowly and yawning before even getting out of bed.
He languidly picked up the comm and clicked it in. First day on the job.
"Yeah? Rykov here."

"Good morning, Rykov. You have a busy morning in front of you." De'Ville sounded a bit amused. "Get some breakfast in the kitchens and then meet me in the main courtyard in an hour. I will see you then."
The comm clicked off.

Rykov stared at the small object for a moment before tossing it back on the table. He slipped his dirty black pants on before slipping his boots on; the automatic buckles sighing and hissing as they conformed to Ishmel's legs comfortably. He debated whether or not he needed his heavy jacket or not but decided against it, unaware of the planet's climates in the morning. He stashed the comm in one of his many pockets and headed out, trying to discern a direction towards the kitchen.
After finding a servant and getting his directions. Rykov arrived at the kitchen, grabbing two rolls and a glass of water. Once again getting directions to the main courtyard he was off, content with his food for the moment. By the time he made it to the courtyard, he was chewing the last bite of his rolls and had ditched the water canister with some meandering servant.
He entered the morning light, squinting as his eyes grew accustomed. His pale gray hair shifted in long clumps, he hadn't recieved a shower yet and he hadn't bothered finding one either. He was going to work today anyways. Why bother?

She stood up from the bench she'd been resting on in the center of the courtyard, enjoying the early morning sun. "Right on time, Rykov. A good trait. I will start our session this morning with a few questions. What do you know of the Force?"
Ishmel Rykov

Barely swallowing the last piece before he responded to her,
"Fda Force?..."
Ishmel swallowed the rest of it before continuing.
"I can't say I really know a thing about it, sorry. I mean, I think there's some kinda connection between my hatred and that glow that I can see in my mind when I focus on it, but ya know... never really bothered with it."
Rykov clenched his fist, focused on even the smallest thing he could think of, the sunlight of all things that stung his eyes. He could feel the hatred flowing in his fist. Was this the force?! Had he been focusing it all this time?
"Like I said, I know nothing."

"I did not think you did." She snapped her fingers, and a trooper in a grey uniform walked into the courtyard. On his back was a bulky frame of some kind. As he got closer (carefully walking around De'Ville) Rykov could see a furry lizard-like creature entwined in the frame.
"This is a yslamiri, a creature that repels the Force. Once inside it's influence you will be denied access to that which you access subconsciously." She did not envy him the sensation, but it was necessary. Besides, it would do him good. "Tell me if you feel any different."
The trooper stood a yard to the side of him, easily encompassing the apprentice in the two meter 'bubble.'

Ishmel warily watched the trooper come closer to him as he held his focused hatred in his fist. The burning sensation instantly went cold with one step and then as the trooper came closer and then stopped, the sensation was gone. Ishmel tried to focus his hatred again but it appeared futile. He frowned and spit on the ground.
"You telling me that my hatred is the Force and that these things can keep it from me?"
Ishmel spun on his heel. He didn't understand the Force or exactly how he focused his hatred, but if there was anything he did love it was that feeling of the hatred rushing through his veins and along his muscles. And this thing had taken it away from him. He approached the trooper and examined the thing on his back; what had she called them? Yslamiri? Just another thing to hate among the many in this world.
Without any warning or sign, Rykov's face contorted in a released rage at the lost feeling of his "hatred" and he hit the trooper in the gut. Before the man could double over, Ishmel's boot kicked forward and launched the man backwards, the yslamiri's effects obviously out of range as Ishmel felt the Force or whatever it was course through him, he let it burn though on the remembrance of losing it. He loved his hatred. Turning back to De'Ville,
"I felt different, only for a little while though.

She threw a hand out, knocking her apprentice to the ground with a Force push. "Restrain yourself!" Lilaena thundered, her voice seeming unnaturally loud to his ears. To the side of the fallen apprentice, the trooper was getting to his feet unsteadily.
He'd fallen on his back, on top of the nutrient frame, and he now knelt and removed teh heavy pack, examining the yslamiri. They were fragile creatures, and expensive - worth their weight in credits on the black market. De'Ville allowed Rykov to get to his feet, rage billowing out from his body in almost tangible waves, and turned to the trooper. "How is it?"
"Injured." The trooper showed a stormtroopers tendencies towards verbosity.
"Leave, and take care of it. We cannot afford to lose another.' Kuklos Ataxia had been experimenting with lighter frames, infused with different nutrients, and had lost one of their yslamiri. They only had eight left now, for training purposes, or for restraining captives with. Should they get any.
She turned back to her slightly bruised apprentice. "Tell me, can you do anything with this 'hatred' of yours?"

Ishmel had been quite shocked at being pushed down by someone standing several yards away and was still recovering as he stumbled back to his former stance.
"Blood and ashes, I can kill people and from what I've read from Teras Kasi and from what I've tried of it, I can shatter brick walls and bend steel when I'm angry enough, even crack a man's skull in my hand."
Spitting dust from his mouth,
"Or a woman's."
Rykov could only guess what else she could do with the Force but the somewhat subtle threat had mixed well with the taste of the hatred, as if his words had almost been curved to suit his hatred.

"You will learn how to harness your anger, so you may shatter brick walls at will...and not just when you're furious." She shoved him back with the Force once more, harder than the first time. "Now attack me, and let us see how well you fare."
Lilaena quirked an eyebrow at him as he scrambled to his feet, and goaded him. "Come now, you said you could crack a woman's skull with your hand. I want to see if you can make good on your idle threats."

Ishmel growled, as he got to his feet. The witch could do that unseen fist stronger? How in the galaxy was Rykov to fight this? He could feel her provoking him. How else had he survived in the slums for so long if he didn't know when to back off. But she had called his bluff and told him to attack her. He had said he would follow her orders. With a grimace, he spat and charged at her.
He hated the odds and he was already mad enough. The scenery was blurring in his eyes as he focused his hatred in his arms and at De'Ville. That wonderful, bland taste filling his mouth.

There was a strong sense of fury emanating from Ishmel, and De'Ville stood still, hands folded across her chest as she waited for him..

He charged at her, with a right hook flying out at her face as his left fist launched to follow up in her stomach, the moment her feet moved he would try to trip her. He knew how to fight and control his rage to fight well.

Lightning fast, her hands shot out and she grabbed his right hand, squeezing his fist painfully. His left connected with her stomach, but she'd been flexing, anticipating such a move, and the pain was minimal.
Instead of moving her feet or turning on him, De'Ville concentrated her focus on his right fist, wordlessly crushing his hand within hers.

His mouth opened in pain as his legs buckled beneath him in surprise. Ishmel was down on one knee as he actually realized what had happened. She was too fast. He thought he was faster than the average street brawler but she was multiplied his own abilities.
"That's... not possible."
His gray eyes twitched from his fist to her eyes as he could almost sense something that he could only guess was her "hatred." She had a lot of it. He was astounded by how much "hatred" he thought he might be sensing at his right fist.
The situation flashed back to Rykov and he faced what had happened again. On his knees? Disabled so easily? Ishmel's strength was quickly waning in his right arm from the pain but the humiliation was fueling his own hatred. He focused on his right arm, trying to ease his hatred into his arm in an attempt to over power her and escape. His right hand struggled to be free as his left hand launched at her face.

His free hand shot towards her, but she stepped backwards. Rykov was pulled off balance, his fist missing, and his right hand's joints popping painfully.
She finally released him, and stepped back once more, surveying him. "Had enough?"
Ishmel Rykov

He held his right arm in his left hand cautiously as he glared at De'Ville. He would not stop if it had been a real fight but he could see how easily she outclassed him for the moment and notice the lesson for what at least some of it was. He hated conceding but the thought of continuing seemed useless to Rykov. He concentrated on his hatred, the humiliation of losing so quickly and the pain in his arm, before clenching his right hand. It popped and cracked in return as he unclenched it and released it back to his side.
"I'd rather bite my leg off from this bear trap than say yes but I suppose I'll be needing the leg to follow your next orders, eh?"
Lilaena De'Ville
Jan 3rd, 2004, 03:33:44 PM
"Yes, most likely." She cracked her knuckled as she spoke. "Your impatience and your cockiness is your undoing. Try immersing yourself in your hatred...but allow it to cool off, while still holding onto the power you feel it gives you."
Ishmel Rykov
Jan 3rd, 2004, 09:52:33 PM
Ishmel's eye brow arched as she went into some indepth dren he didn't follow.
"My hatred is hotter than the Nine Hells, De'Ville. I don't think I can take a bath and it'll go away. And cockiness? You got me wrong lady. Anybody at home called me out like you did and it wouldn't 'ave been a problem. Ain't like they can all slam me into the ground with mind powers. I can't do that can I? Not to mention nobody's caught one of my punches like that, much less had their own bits o' hatred I could taste."
He'd give her the impatient bit though. It was not like he was going to sit around and wait to learn Teras Kasi or anything. He did his orders and Rykov expected his rewards in return.
He scratched his head through his messy long hair. Ishmel still did not get the last part after the word "undoing." Immersing in hatred and cooling off at the same time were two totally different sensations.

She saw his confusion and added, "What I mean is that you need to learn how to call up the power your anger gives you, without becoming blind with rage. If you cannot think straight because of anger then you will do yourself no good at all."
Ishmel Rykov
Jan 14th, 2004, 05:10:15 PM
Ishmel spit on the ground again, his colorless eyes not able to tell him if blood was in it. He had bitten his tongue on that last part, being "blind with rage" as he was.
"Is that the end of my lesson or what?"
Lilaena De'Ville
Jan 15th, 2004, 03:00:07 PM
"The end? No, this is only the beginning." She wanted to see what he was capable of...to what extent his fury would take him. "Now we will fight again."
She intended to rake the coals of his anger, and started by taking him nearly by surprise with a quick kick to his left knee.
Ishmel Rykov
Feb 13th, 2004, 03:06:59 PM
The knee buckled and Ishmel hit the ground roughly, catching himself at a kneeling position before launching himself at De'Ville.
He was angrier than a rancor but in the back of his head he could almost hear De'Ville's voice, '...Call up the power your anger gives you, without becoming blind..."

She stepped back and planted her feet as he launched himself at her, hands ready in front of her. As he barrelled into her she slapped away his fists and turned sideways, his attack nearly missing her completely.

One foot touched down, and expecting her to deflect it in some manner, his hand reached out to grab her arm as soon as she pushed his fists away. His other leg landed in place behind her so that his momentum and the placed leg would help in throwing her to the ground.

He was quick, but she was quicker. Even as his second leg planted she landed a swift kick to the inside of his first leg's knee. He still tried to throw her over his leg, and she complied, bending nearly backwards and touching her hands to the ground. As she evaded his throw, De'Ville kicked both of her feet into the air, aiming for his head.
Ishmel Rykov
Feb 23rd, 2004, 03:26:02 PM
Her flexibility astounded Ishmel and the proceeding kick to his chin launched him into the air and on his back once he hit the ground; the air rushed from his lungs. He was surprised but quickly learning that from now on he shouldn't be surprised if he wanted any chance, he should expect anything.
He quickly pushed himself up, restancing himself to fight, his fists clenched as he tried to focus the overflowing torrent of anger. This fight was already inevitably in her favor without Ishmel a chance and for that... his eyes blurred in rage... his gray colored lip lifted in a snarl... he could see his hate emanating from his skin... but De'Ville's voice came back about controlling the rage.
A Teras Kasi proverb entered his mind along with her teachings, "There is nothing, only the void in which your anger and kindness means nothing, there has always been nothing but the void and there will never be nothing but the void, focus on the void."
Instantly his hatred was there, in the void. He fed it into the void like trying to push a rushing wave of lava and ice down the sink of the universe. It seemed like it took an eternity until he could see clearly again. Ishmel could still see the hatred flowing off of him but his vision was clear, his fists still clenched, and his lip still lifted.
Unbeknownst to him that only a few seconds had passed, he still launched himself back at De'Ville in a counterattack.

He came at her, faster this time, nearly a blur as he pushed the fury into a tight ball which he could control better. Ishmel snarled as he attacked, and she blocked with her forearms, forcing his hands down with twisting motion. Face to face with her apprentice, she bashed his nose with her forehead, getting satisfaction as blood spurted nearly instantly.
They broke apart, and she swept her leg out, trying to get him off his feet and complete his humiliation.

The leg knocked his feet from out under Ishmel as he hit the ground on his back, all he could see was flashes across his vision as he closed his eyes. He could taste fresh blood on his lips and could feel it flowing down the side of his cheek.
The void couldn't contain the hate at being once again deflected so easily. Ishmel slammed the ground with his fist as he sighed. He sat up on his elbows and wiped blood away from his nose, which did not help in the least.
"What now? More useless attempts? More wasted time? Anything else needed to point out that I couldn't have failed a bit more?"
He was standing by now, cupping his nose and holding it to try and prevent anymore blood loss.

She slapped him for his insolence, and then added, "You were doing well until just then. And if you feel I am wasting your time, you are free to leave the planet.
"However, once you learn how to contain the hate and the energy it gives you, then we can progress onto other things."
Ishmel Rykov
Mar 13th, 2004, 02:06:45 AM
Blood had gone flying from his cupped hand as she had slapped him. The slap had started a flash of reactions within Ishmel though. His childhood abuse of being the outcast and getting beat up for, the slaps he recieved from his drunk father all the time, and his blood now splayed across the lawn like rain in front of him all created a blast of hate within him.
"However, once you learn how to contain the hate and the energy it gives you, then we can prgress onto other things."
Ishmel heard her and with that, he threw all his hate once more into the void, the endless container of his hate. Being so close, he focused this void at De'Ville and decided it was time enough to stuff her into it as well.
His fist flew from his side at her, his other hand ready to counter anything she might try to defend with.

The Force flickered, gave warning, and De'Ville managed to dodge most of his blow. His fist clipped her head, and she ducked to the side, countering with a punch to his chest that he turned aside. "The Force gives quickness where there was none, and stealth -" she blocked his second blow with a grunt, "stealth to the clumsy.
"You learn this lesson, and we will have much more to speak about next time." De'Ville was pleased at his reaction, and allowed him to come at her again. "Feed the anger, Rykov, and feel the power."
Ishmel Rykov
Mar 16th, 2004, 07:18:17 PM
Rykov could barely hear her words but he listened nonetheless over the roar of containing the hatred in the void. Like feeding a fire that consumes everything, he continued to push more into the void. Ishmel was still angry that neither of his hits had done what he wanted.
A bare flicker of fatigue passed through his mind as he almost lost control of the void, the hatred almost spilling out like a tidal wave; something he might have welcomed at another time when not worrying about focusing it. His chest ached for some reason. He vaguely remembered her hitting him. Ishmel would worry about remembering later, the pain was pushed as well as he could manage into the void.
A dodge and a block were nothing to him but a good looking failure compared to everything else she had done against him so far. He pushed this thought in with the hatred as it drained into the void. Learn this lesson? Much more to speak about next time? Both questions seemed meaningless to him, and yet Ishmel knew he would continue until he had completed the objective just to get the point across that he could do it.
His focus went from controlling the void to once again unleashing it upon his teacher. Instead of lunging though he one foot forward and then the other before that to give him a more solid base to absorb any blow he expected might come in return. One fist twisted and flew at her; the other kept its defensive position to deflect and counter again.

Lilaena noticed how quickly he picked up on her moves, and how his failure to hurt her angered him. As he punched out at her once more, she blocked with a forearm. His second fist came in and scored a hit on her side.
De'Ville twisted away from further hits, and spun around, kicking squarely at his shoulder. In their next training session she would begin to teach him about the Force, but he was much too defiant right now. He could not comprehend the Master/Apprentice relationship, and that he would have to understand, even if she had to break him.

Mar 19th, 2004, 04:50:08 PM
Ishmel stepped back as the void exploded in his mind like a dam being crushed by a flooding river and he lost control of it. He'd made a hit but it had not looked to have any apparent effect and then she had easily moved out of range without a moment between the following kick that landed in his shoulder. He gritted his teeth as the hatred lost its focus; Rykov could feel it like a shower of loathing drowning his body.
How could he be so weak? He had been the predator back at home. How could a being be set on such a higher level above Ishmel in the ability to destroy?
His fists clenched and his grey knuckles went bonewhite.
HATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATehatehateha tehatehatehate...
It slowly subsided and his hands opened to brush the hair out of his face as he spit at the ground. He sighed and his shoulders sagged slightly.
"What now De'Ville?"
Lilaena De'Ville
Mar 20th, 2004, 02:01:21 PM
She planted another kick in his chest as he sagged. "You will address me as Master." Ishmel fell backwards, but regained his balance quickly...probably because of his interest in Teras Kasi and his rudimentary training in such. "As for what is next, there is nothing next today. I cannot teach someone who thinks they know it all already."
De'Ville stepped closer to him, and then stopped. "Come back tomorrow morning, if you wish to learn. If not, you can find your way off planet easily enough." If he chose to leave, she would have to send someone after him to kill him... It was a shame, really, but he would be a liability to their secrecy here on Onderon. She made a mental note to have his room watched. Watched by someone who'd make it just obvious enough that Ishmel was not trusted, and that if he wanted to make it here, he'd have to prove it.

Ishmel did not give an answer right away except for turning his head away to spit. His ego was damaged badly but he was too tired to bother with it. Ishmel had not known he was walking into an apprenticeship here. He'd been told he would serve and he'd get what he wanted. Again, like several other times back at the slums of Coruscant, Ishmel was reminded that the fine print made the deals.
He craved a cold shower as he could feel the pain of the bruises and the aching bones seep into him from the vanished void. With another sigh he held a hand to his chest and turned his back on De'Ville. He made it to the door in slow dragging steps; the door lifting up with quickly to let Ishmel through.
"I reckon I'll see ya in the mornin' then Maste'."
Ishmel headed out, taking his time as he made his way back to the his small room in the servant's quarters.
