Anybody interested in doing this? It could be fun.

Sounds like fun. How do propose it would work?

We leave it open for a week or two, and then close entries, get the people who joined and randomize the list, pairing them together. Then, addresses are swapped, etc.
Gifts will be from $5 to $10

hahah psycho!
Yes but then you have to figure in shipping costs...like what if I had to send a gift to Australia?! :uhoh
I think it's a cool idea. :D

It sounds like a good idea to me. But LD brings up a good point. Exchange and shipping are killers for those who are out of the U.S. I guess that's why you chose $5-$10 though. :)

What about online gift certificates? Those wouldn't have shipping costs. The place the cert is from could be the purchaser's choice.

^^^
Good idea.
Still, its best to pick something out and do it that way. Makes it fun IMO

The only thing I'd point out is you need to hurry up about it. It takes a week to get a card from the UK to the US in November. Imagine the same for a package in December.

Ok, so are people cool with me starting the thread up? Any other suggestions?

What are you going to use to randomize the list? Or how are you going to randomize it? Otherwise I guess you could start up the thread...

Also, what happens for "impossible" gifts?

1. names in a hat can work.
2. what

Well, say if someone had to buy something that wasn't available anywhere they knew?
Charley
Nov 27th, 2003, 04:01:15 PM
uh, its the buyer's prerogative to get whatever they want for that person.

I *think* what Reaper was getting at was what if I bought someone a gift certificate for Best Buy or Circuit City but they didn't live within 100 miles of one? Ah well, it's the thought that counts...

lmao
Yes, Fett, you don't get tp request your gift. It's just given to you.
Or we could do a White Elephant gift exchange, where you just send your person something you have laying around that you (a) hate, or (b) it's useless.
Anyway it'd have to be decided soon. And obviously if "you" don't have the $$ to buy something cheap and send it overseas, then don't participate.

Correct. So, anybody got any other suggestions? Is this a go?

I don't see what the hold up is. I see no reason this needs an official yay or nay from the staff. This wouldn't neccessarily be a SWFans.Net sanctioned thing, just something among the members.
