I'm need of a new word processor, preferably one that's free for download and somewhat decent.

Freeware open-source office suite. About a 65 Mb download. I haven't tried it myself, but it's gotten pretty good reviews.

This is just a word processing program, not the full office suite like OpenOffice. I know little about it, but it might be worth a try.

hmm... Abi doesn't look too bad. I hate Word Perfect 10 and all those other Office 2002 programs that came with my computer. Thanks for the link.

Well, eventually, MSOffice is a good investment, especially if you do anything business related. Its the standard.

The latest versions are useless upgrades. Office 2000 is the most needed.

Open Office has gotten very good in file format exchange with Word. You can open, write or create in .doc format, which is all that is required in the main. I see a few businesses exploring alternatives because of the hideous licence fees MS have on Office. The only real show stopper with OpenOffice is the lack of a truly decent Outlook replacemnt that works with Exchange. Exchange is an utter beast of a product, but it's featureset is peerless, Exchange 2003 has some truly excellent features. Any Outlook replacement would be highly welcome.

..... what? WP 10 is not an Office offering. I severly doubt you have Office XP if your claiming Word Perfect came with it.

Under "Start/Programs/Office 2002" I have Word Perfect 10 and some other Corel business-type programs.


All of this came with my computer which came with XP, so i dunno

You dont have MS Office then.
