Apparently, this means people might get power cuts.

wup, there goes the DirecTV (satellite TV). i thought the only thing that could prevent satellite signals from getting to my dish from space was light wind, heavy wind, light rain, heavy rain, light snow, heavy snow, hail and Fidel Castro. Long story.

Have to add geomagnetic storms to that list.

So far, the only thing has ever disrupted our DirecTV signal is heavy rain. Wind, snow, etc doesnt seem to affect us. *crosses fingers :uhoh

It's not just satellite providers like DirecTV that will be/are being affected. Cable providers are dealing with the same problems, because many individual network satellites have had interference issues. I've already seen this first hand.

Just a fact of life. Have to deal with it until it passes.

I knew this was somehow gonna be about solar flares.

I really need to time my aspirations of world domination to these things.

My fiance` and I have had our direct tv go out for a few short minutes due to the solar flares. They even stated that was the reason on the blue screen that popped up on the tv. Only had it happen once though and that only lasted about three minutes.

An awesome pic (http://rednova.com/news/images/1/2003/10/24/solar_flare_8big_earth-comparison_soho.jpg) of the solar storm causing the problems...
