Just messing around with 3d Studio Max R5, and I finally got the hang of a little bit of it, wanted to show what little I know off.

Here's an X-Wing chasing a TIE Fighter, which is wildly spinning. The X-Wing is juking left and right to line up a shot.

Here's a Mon Calamari Cruiser with 2 X-Wings patrolling nearby. I like this scene because it reminds me of similar imagery in ESB and ROTJ.

I don't know how to do stars correctly yet (stars have to move/twinkle slightly, they can't just be a static backdrop), nor do I know how to dub in sound effects with any measure of accuracy. I also don't know how to do good-looking blaster shots yet.

Here's another scene, 4 X-Wings ascending from a planet with nice angles, flying towards the camera and unlocking S-foils.

Formation (Preview Pic) (http://home.covad.net/~wlabiche/formation_preview.jpg)

Formation (Render clip) (http://home.covad.net/~wlabiche/formation_Render.avi)

The full render AVI isn't done yet, takes a long time to render.

Some nice modelling and scene animation there. I'd like to do something similar myself

Update: Please check out Formation (Render clip). That there is my pride and joy, took me 2.8 hours.

I don't think my media viewer is set up properly, because I can't seem to get the renders to come up - but the stills look awesome!!!

Dial up, I can only look at the stills 'cause I don't like being tied to the computer with a DL. ^_^;

You didn't even try downloading my clips, did you?

They're only 465KB per clip on average.

So now you have no excuse! Watch them and report back and give me compliments!

*Throws his hat at Lilaena ala Odd Job from James Bond movies*

And make it snappy!!

Very nice. I really like the last one, "Formation." Nice touch having the S-foils closing up as the leave the planet. :)

That's probably what it is - this is only my work PC - I might have better luck @ home... But hey, I did try to watch them... :D

Thanks for the compliments :) I had a lot of trouble getting the S-foils to close properly on 3 of the ships, because at the moment when they are supposed to close, the ship is rotated at an odd angle, so you can't tell if the S-foils are even or not. The 3dsmax GUI makes things rather iffy.
