Some tough picks this week. Pittsburgh at KC should be the game of the week, but there are some other big ones to watch. It should be very telling, as we see which teams are for real and which ones are in trouble.

And Jedieb you pick against my Chiefs :p Just kidding it should be a great game might even be a shoot out consider both teams have great offenses. I think the Chiefs Offense is better and that is why they will prevail, plus playing in Arrowhead doesn't hurt.

So I'm the only one who thinks Miami will CONTINUE to struggle at the Meadowlands? They're something like 1-7 in their last 8 trips there. Then again, Vinny is starting and unless they let him throw down the field the Dolphins will probably pick him apart. Still, I'm going to go with the Jets because I think that Jersey jinx is going to follow the Fins.

If the Jets were healthy, and had Pennington at QB, I'd go with them in a heartbeat given recent history. But... honestly... they looked anemic on offense against Washington. Curtis Martin can't carry the load by himself, and methinks the already are missing Lavernius Coles.

Miami will be angry after losing to Houston. I think they'll buck the trend this year.

The question with the Pittsburg-KC game for me is KC defense, if they can hold them around 3 TDs they will win easily, I rather not them get into a shootout last year if they can help it.

KC-Pittsburgh is a shootout, as expected.

Green Bay looks about 50 times better than they did last week... although, they're playing Detriot...

Buffalo is playing well again.

Miami looks like they'll actually win in New York.

It doesn't surprise me that much... they're probably the best team in the AFC East at the moment. Although, I'm curious to see how their defense holds up when the schedule hits its tougher spots.

The Bucs just lost in overtime, 12-9. It wasn't so much the fierceness of the Carolina defense as it was the fierceness of the Carolina Special Teams. They blocked at least 2 Field Goals, , and returned for a lot of yards.
Penalties galore. They caught the Bucs in every penalty offense they made, plus threw in a few more BS penaltys, including some stupid new role that stole 10 seconds from us, and moved us back 5 yards. I'd say they caught about 40% of the NC penaltys.

The 10 second run-off rule isn't new. It's been around for several years. The difference is that, now, when the offensive team gets a penalty within 2 minutes of the half or the end of the game, they have the option of taking a time out if they have one, rather than have the 10 seconds taken off the clock.

It's done so as to prevent an offense from purposely commiting a penalty to stop the clock under the 2:00 mark.

Ryan Pode

Which is pretty smart. We do that in lacrosse, as there is no rule like that.

Jedieb
Sep 14th, 2003, 06:34:06 PM
Well there's a game to make any Bucs fan puke.:x

The penalties were just ridiculous, but the flag was getting thrown on both sides of the ball. The Panthers had a plethora of false starts. Like F'Dan said, the runoff rule has been around for years. I'd love to see what the Bucs special teams practice is going to be like this week. Their line just disintegrated on that point after and the other 2 field goal attempts. I've NEVER seen 3 blocks by one team in an NFL game.

Oh, well, a perfect game for 2 of the best defenses in the league. I think the Bucs should bounce back easily enough with the Vickless Falcons next week.

As per usual, I'm 0-2 on my Dolphins picks. Take them out of the equation and the contest would be MINE!!! :crack

I think my Chiefs right now are the best team, they dominated Pittsburg. KC had some problems in the first quarter with Green throwing two interceptions and they were down 10-0 at one point, until Dante Hall returned a 100 yard kick off return :) After Pittsburgh took a 17-7 lead Holmes took over and scored a TD than KC just took control of the game they outscored Pittsburgh 41-3 after the that 10-0 that is amazing. And a lot of it was the defense they forced 4 TO's returned a Int for a TD. The defense was amazing and I think the Chiefs will be a tough team from here out IMO. Actually considering they play at Houston and at Baltimore in the next two weeks they will be 4-0 before there big game against Denver.

Figrin D'an
Sep 14th, 2003, 08:51:40 PM
Don't count on being able to roll over Baltimore. The Chiefs offense is good, but it still has it's weaknesses. I want to see them play a really solid defense before making a call on them one way or the other. (Let's face it... Pittsburghs D isn't what it used to be, and San Diego is one of the worst defensive units in the league.)

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 14th, 2003, 09:07:19 PM
I think their offense is the best to me that isn't a concern, they scored at will on teams last season and I think with Holmes at 100% they will this year. Their defense still concerns me more than anything else. Right now it looks very good but I don't see it getting tested until they play Denver. Houston has no offense (that should be a huge rout) and Baltimore only has Lewis and the Chiefs are great at stopping the run (they held the second best RB to less than 50 yards) their secondary still worries me and I want to see what they do against Denver, Oakland and Buffalo, and Green Bay (they play those four teams back-back) that will show me how good they are defensively. But right now if they can play like they did in Pittsburg I think they are great and could win the SB.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 14th, 2003, 09:08:34 PM
Also what weakness do you mean? Holmes is the best RB. They have two good recievers, the best TE in the game (who they don't seem to want to use, unless his knee is still bothering him) and the best Offensive Line I see no weaknesses IMO.

No offense, but your looking through tinted glasses. Every fan of a given team does this. It's only natural.

Here's my quick breakdown of the Chiefs offense:

Strengths:

- Priest Holmes, who appears to be healthy.

- Ability to spread the ball around in the passing game.

- Solid (not the best) offensive line.

Weaknesses:

- Lack a true #1, go-to receiver

- Trent Green is still capable of QB brain farts

- Limited to pocket passing. Protection breakdowns = sacks or RB dump-offs.

I'm not trying to knock the Chiefs. They're a pretty damn good team at the moment. I'm just trying to say that its still very early in the season, and that they still have yet to play a really solid defense. Keep in mind, too, KC has a LOT of tough road games this year (Baltimore, Denver, Oakland, Green Bay, Minnesota), plus home against their two remaining division foes and a Buffalo team that is playing just as well right now and might be able to match the Chiefs offensive firepower.

I'm just not willing to give the mantle of "Best Team" to anyone yet. It's waaaaaay to early to do that.

Ouch... If the Steelers' offensive line had held up enough to get a running game started, things could have gone very differently in Kansas City.

But, from what I heard, it sounded like KC genuinely outplayed the Steelers. Unfortunately, I live in Ohio, so I got to see the Ravens and Browns followed by the Bengals and Raiders. So I had to settle for listening to the Steelers radio broadcast over NFL.com.

It is, however, worth noting that the last eight times the Steelers and the Chiefs have played, it's been in Kansas City. They were all regular-season games; that's just the way they were scheduled.

Anyway, I've still got a solid chance to break even. All I need is a Cowboys loss, which shouldn't be too hard.

I don't know why Figrin left me out, but I'm 10-5 heading into tonight. But I'll get him back by backing up Carr. ;)

I think the Chiefs receivers are as solid a group as you can find. Green lit teams up last year and I think he'll continue to do the same this year. Their glaring weakness last year wasn't in the passing or running game, it was their swiss cheese defense. It looks like they've made enough changes to get to the middle of the pack defensively so they may have moved to the top of the pack in their division. It'll be interesting to see how well they play against the Raiders and Broncos. Even though it looks like the Chargers have fallen apart that division is still brutal. If the Chiefs win it they'll probably make it to the AFC championship game.

Again, for future reference, if you're looking for an easy pick this season, look at my Dolphins pick AND PICK THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!>_<

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 15th, 2003, 08:52:53 PM
Thanks Jedieb :) I agree with you that division is brutal, the first game that worries me next is that Denver game in week 5, that is huge and will tell me a lot about them this year. And Figrin, I didn't realize I was playing you. Our game is close right now the closest of all the teams I think the only reason I am winning is Priest Holmes (James had a good game for me as well) other than that I am doing well. My Recievers are hurting me I mean I can't believe that Gonzalez has given me 0 the first two games. I am not sure if they under using him or if he is still not a 100%.

Jedi Master Carr

Who's in first? *takes a peek* SEAN'S IN FIRST!!!

*does little stupid dance*

Seriously though...I'm just setting myself up for the big let down. I don't think my teams got legs...

As for my picks...GO COWBOYS! Wow...apparently my upset pick did pretty good for me... :D

The ranking in Yahoo is flawed. How can I be behind someone who has one less win than I have? 2-0 > 1-0. Points not included. ><
