Quatarn
Aug 28th, 2003, 06:16:39 PM
As instructed, here's a quick description of my char as well as history and other vital information. Let me know what you think. :)

Description:

Name: Fendal Quatarn
Age: 52
Height: 5 foot 9
Build: Stocky (getting a bit pudgy/flabby)
Hair Color: Black and White
Eye Color: Grey
(basically, just look at my Avatar)

History:

(I'm not sure what rules you guys have regarding previous experience in the Imperial Navy, so i'll throw this out there and you can correct me if it's not acceptable).

Fendal Quatarn is a native of Coruscant. He reached military age at the height of the Empire, and joined the navy to help bring order to the rest of the galaxy. His instructors at the Naval Academy soon noticed that while Quatarn performed only moderately well in his academic work, his fervor and zealousness in the Empire's ideals were nearly unequalled. While this fact worked for the most part in Quatarn's favor, it also pointed out several glaring personality flaws.

First and foremost was Quatarns temper. Anyone who did not live up to Quatarn's expectations of what a proper Imperial should be was subjected to rantings and ravings the likes of which usually ended in fistfights. Likewise, when placed in command situations it was found that anyone under Quatarns command who did not perfom up to his high standards, or who failed in a given task, was severely reprimanded or disciplined.

The second of Quatarns major character flaws was his "win at any cost" approach to everything, including combat. Quatarn was found to have trouble retreating when the odds were in the enemy's favor, and he often resorted to what some would call "desparation tactics" to win such engagements. While this led to inordinately high casualty rates in Quatarn's combat simulations, it also led to an above average number of simulation victories in everything from starfighter to capital ship combat scenarios.

Another of Quatarn's flaws was his arrogance. In combat simulations it was found that he would routinely underestimate opponents he deemed unworthy or "below par", such as pirate groups and smugglers. Despite this, and despite his other flaws, Quatarn was passed through the Academy and went on to command school, where he graduated with the rank of Captain.

Quatarn's first assignment was to the frigate Valor, assigned to patrol the outer rim territories against pirate groups. After a few years and several engagements where the Valor emerged damaged but victorious, the frigate was transferred to patrol trade routes. Many a smuggler regretted their encounters with the Valor.

After his tenure on the frigate, Quatarn was brought back to Coruscant to assume command of a new Victory Class Star Destroyer, the Terror. While on Coruscant he met, wooed, and wed his first wife before taking command of his Star Destroyer.

While assigned to the Terror, Quatarn was part of several operations to subjugate independant star systems and bring them under Imperial rule. Eventually, he was deemed fit for promotion and elevated to the rank of Commodore. He retained his command of the Terror, and was given oversight of several support ships as well. After twelve years of marraige, Quatarn's first wife divorced him and took their seven year old son with her. Three years later, he wed his second wife. His commision as a Rear Admiral was timed well enough that it could have been their wedding present.

As part of his promotin, Quatarn was transferred to the Imperial Star Destroyer Heretic and given command of a small fleet, with orders to seek out and destroy newly developing rebel forces in the outer rim. During this duty, just shortly before returning to Coruscant on leave, Quatarns second wife died in a speeder accident. He was there just long enough to oversee the funeral, after which he went back to duty in the outer rim. The Heretic took no prisoners, earning it a gruesome reputation among rebel groups.

Quatarn continued his dedicated service to the Empire up until the battle of Endor, where he commanded the Heretic alongside many other star destroyers. Despite his fury at the rebels for destroying both the Executor and the second death star, and his burning desire for revenge, he followed Pellean's order to retreat and fell back with the rest of the fleet.

As the Empire declined and the New Republic grew in prominence, Quatarn tried to stay as loyal as possible to the Imperial Remnant, despite growing personal councers about it's future. The final straw came when navy command ordered the Heretic and her by now much smaller fleet to attack a reported New Republic supply depot. The depot wasn't really a depot... it was a trap set by false intelligence. Held in realspace by a captured Imperial Interdictor, Quatarn's fleet was destroyed before his very eyes, his own flagship crippled when it's forward shields failed and a New Republic concussion missile slammed into the bridge.

Quatarn survived the destruction of the ship's bridge through the efforts of his second in command, but was badly wounded. These days, Quatarns left arm is a cybernetic replacement to just below the shoulder, and his face is covered in faintly visible scars. The physical scars are not the only ones Quatarn carries, however, as he was personally changed on a deep level by his injuries and close encounter with death. His temper had faded a bit, due in no small part to the fact that his heart has gotten weaker with age, and he is more cautious when engaging enemy forces. Vestages of his old temperment and reckless behavious still come to the surface every once in a while, but on the whole Quatarn has become more subdued.

Believing the Imperial Remnant incapable of restoring the former glory of the Empire, Quatarn now seeks to defect to the Imperial Sovereignty.
__________________________

Ok, that's the history for ya. Hope it's long enough. :p
I've had nearly three years experience role playing Imperial characters on other role playing boards, both of which used cooperative storytelling RP styles like the one you use here.

I'd prefer it if you put Quatarn in your navy somwhere... i've noticed that you don't seem to have many medical ships. One idea i've had is that Quatarn's horrible experiences have given him more insight to what the wounded have to go through, so perhaps he'd be the one to set up and command a small "medical fleet"... medical frigates and ships like corvettes, dreadnoughts, and maybe escort carriers that have been converted into hospital ships. Just a thought.

Anywho, does that mean i should change the part about the Imperial Remnant?

Jarek T'chort
Aug 29th, 2003, 10:17:21 AM
Well this is meant to be 50 odd years since Endor, by now I think the Remnant has broken up and its Balmorra, the Sovereignty and the Federacy with a couple other small groups.

Thats a point. For the noobs could someone who knew post something about the history....its kinda confusing.

Loklorien s'Ilancy
Aug 29th, 2003, 10:45:43 AM
as far as i know, theres a total of about 4 factions, though only two are active in any sense

1 - imperial federacy - khendons deal; hes been busy with some rl things, so im not sure what he wants to do with it. ima talk to him sometime to find out though

2 - imperial sovereignty - where the flocks of imperial n00bs go. telan takes them in, refines their skills, and turns them into lean, mean, pasta eating machines. telan is obsessed with taking over planets, so if you like neverending campaign threads, this is the place to be

3 - balmorran empire - millard is getting ready to have a civil war pretty soon. fun stuff, fun stuff, torture, killing, revolts, yay! definately i have to say its the more story driven faction of the four, so if youre into developing your char while at the same time doing *cool imperial stuff, go there

4 - the fortress in a hollowed out volcano - shreigers deal. i have no idea what he does, just that hes planning to build a superlaser and put it on the moon, thus turning said moon into a "deathstar"

*the use of the words cool imperial stuff was an oxymoron. i dont really believe theres such a thing as cool imperial stuff :)

*arches an eyebrow*

50 years post Endor? Yikes... if that's the case, my character would probably be dead of old age by now. I'll rethink his backstory and post an accordingly altered version. In the meantime, could somebody please give me a rundown of the history hereabouts? I know the history of the other boards i RP on has taken a lot of crazy twists and turns, and had a lot of interesting major storylines. I'm sure this forum is no different.

Danke!

*waits to be enlightened*

~small edit = thanks for the info on the other factions. :)

Okay, we all have some whacked up avatars! S-Ilancy, yours looks like a wolf with a Vong amphistaff stuck up it's rear, Ryan, yours looks like an old age Pikachu with an equally old weapon, and Quatarn, yours looks like a Military Ad slogan for Castro crumpled up, then uncrumpled. Hands off to S'Il though for creating my avatar. Real work of art there. Telan's avatar looks like something from Fraser, and Dae Jinn's avatar looks like something out of every man's dreams, except for those French men.
We rock!

P.S.: So, you wanna be a fleet or starfigher commander? Me, Teleran, and Tchort are a pretty good team, maybe you could join us, or maybe make another team by joining Ryan in a duo.

P.S.S: As for your avatar, Reshmar, and in conjunction with your wanting to send force to Mrisst, take this as both a bash for posting in the Soveriengty, and as a warning for posting in Mrisst.......... Fried Calamari, anyone?

Fleet commander, preferrably. Since Ryan doesn't want/need a partner, i'll go ahead and join the current trio.

And s'Ilancy, i'd say i love ya, but i just got here. That and my fiancee might smack me for it. :\

Viva Le Crumpled Castro Poster!

~small edit = Inspiration strikes (well, sort of). Instead of being a straight fleet commander, i'd like to request that Quatarn be in charge of a "special operations" fleet... think blackops type of stuff. I know this has no bearing here, but on the previous boards i RPed on my chars generally oversaw superweapon-ish projects, biological weapons divisions, and highly trained commando units. Food for thought. *munch munch*

Park Kraken

I handled lots of guns, from a 9mm pistol, to a .45 calibre shotgun. We used to take pots, pans, Osama Bin Laden Targets, Regular Targets, and other stuff up to some property my Grandad owns near Green Swamp, and shoot them to pieces. I'm a pretty good shot with the shotguns at a distance of about 50 yards.
