View Full Version : Where's the New Republic?

Hey all, new addition to your community here. I was wondering if somebody could answer a question for me. Looking at the RP groups, it seems that there are Imperials, Independants, Jedi, Sith, even vampires... but no New Republic or Rebel groups. Why is that?

The NR is a sub forum under GJO.

And while i'm at it, i'll ask if you guys have a map of the galaxy. Something that shows at a glance who controls which planets and stretches of space, and where borders are?

No. They make no sense.

Ryan Pode
Aug 27th, 2003, 07:05:47 PM
They make plenty of sense.

Hapes has Hapes, Chiss have the Chiss. TIR is in the northern part of the galaxy along with TISy, TIS has a huge part in the southern, Balmorran is in the Balmorran neck of the woods, Ciz have the Cluster (dont know where that is) and the NR has everything else.

It seems simple, but it isn't. If you look at an official map of the SW galaxy, you'll see that in several cases on SWFans, territories overlap and conquests aren't really near each other.

I... see.
That may take some getting used to.

I have a very detailed map... that works.

You're a member of the Imperial Sovereignty, aren't you? I PMed your leader about joining. Can you maybe e-mail me a copy of your map for use as refference material? It would be much appreciated.

The straight truth is that fleet "roleplay" isn't popular with most of the other RPers here. It has an ugly history.

Regardless of what Ryan claims, the map can't possibly make sense because the territory claimed by any group isn't locationally logical. I would know; I tried to make a map that did it, but when I started I realized within 20 planets that the territorial brakedown made zero sense.

Quatarn
Aug 27th, 2003, 08:20:37 PM
I believe ya. I come from a forum where fleet actions routinely get ugly and devolve into arguments or quibbles over little details. We haven't seen the light yet, though, or most of the posters haven't, and continue to RP fleet actions. *shrugs*It's more simming anyway, which is hard to pull off in a cooperative storytelling environment.

As for maps and the lack of sense in them... ah well. It was worth asking. :p

As for maps and the lack of sense in them... ah well. It was worth asking. :p It was a valid question. I honestly wish the map wasn't impossible myself, but I can't force planets that people have "earned" out of anyone's hands. Four years is a lot of time to make a mess.

Quatarn
Aug 27th, 2003, 08:39:39 PM
Heck, the other forum i RP on has made plenty of messes and gotten out of them (mostly) in half that time. Difference seems to be that you guys don't go in and change things around every six months, whilst shaking things up is par for the course where i come from. This should be an interesting place to write...

In case you're wondering, I'm currently head of the NR as Leia (yes, all 5 of them...^_^; ) has gone missing and Admiral Ackbar (aka Master Yog) has gone on a vacation that'll probably span a couple of lifetimes. And, I'd say that most of the original fleet RPers that made Fleet RPing hell have been chased away, replaced by a new set of common-sense rules and some fresh meat...:lol

Welcome aboard the SW-Fans boards.

(Morg, you play Homeworld?! Sweetness! I used to think I was pretty good, until I went up against clan [BDU] and Viper in an eight player game. You don't know what hell is until Viper rushes you with 12 Ion Frigates from one angle, followed by Destroyers from another and fighter clouds from a third side. You'll be absolutely swamped.)

Not often. Like I said, I'm pretty bad at it. I love RTSes, but they're not my strong point. I haven't been decent at one since Red Alert

One thing I think needs to be considered is that, at the beginning of the board, people were really keen to conquer planets and the like, but no one had even a rough official map of the SW galaxy. So what people did instead was go and conquer the popular or well-known planets mentioned in EU fiction, assuming they had some proximity to each other. By the time the NJO books with rough maps first came out that told everyone how wrong that assumption was, territories were set in such an awkward way that no one has been able to untangle them.

In all honesty, I think it would take some of the currently existing groups dissolving and being replaced by others to solve things.

Kre'Fey was the acting admiral of fleet before Dodonna while Yog was gone.

I think they should make a Star Wars version of Homeworld. Build TIE Fighters, and Mole Miners as initial units, then Ore Haulers, TIE Interceptors, Defenders, Scimitars, Adz Patrol Destroyers, Corvettes, Nebulon-B Escort Frigate, Escort Carrier, Dreadnough, Star Destroyer, Super Star Destroyer, etc.
I think I was Fleet Admiral at least once, I took charge while Telan was away on vacation.

As a matter of course and a note to my obssesive penchant for order...

I had indeed made a map - based off of a SW canon map modified by a friend. The map of the Sovereignty does indeed make sense, and our attacks have been staged to make things logical and rational. While Fleet rping is generally loathed by the community, I am trying to revive it through well thought out stroylines and the company of awesome roleplayers and eager noobs.

Ryanh has the only copy in existence since my comp was fried and crashed. C'est la vie.

Others may plan to attack from Corsucant to Tatooine and move reinforcements in from say Thyferra, but we play by the rules of common sense - I am not going to win a battle by cheating. Our attacks are based on expansion of our borders and the elevation of the state of Empire in our quarter of the galaxy,

I've made a map from MS Paint. It is very crappy, but gives everyone at least a little idea of where everyone is.

Indeed, it's called Star Wars Fleet Academy. I've played it ever since the beta.

It's an excellent total conversion, but the later versions aren't as much fun as the earlier ones. Early versions of the mod included Super Star Destroyers and Gigantic Mon-Cal Cruisers. They lowered the biggest ships to MC-80s and ISD's, however, because the game lagged and there were software problems when something toting 600 guns showed up.
