The planet Mars is the closet it has ever been to Earth in 59,000 years at 7:51 AEST.

Just had a look through a 20x Zoom, pretty cool to see it :)

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 27th, 2003, 03:35:47 AM
We can see it plainly with the naked eye. It's really cool. Wish I had a telescope though. :(

This must be why we're having such bad weather. You know how disconcerting it is to look out your window and see that everything is perfectly normal, except your 20 foot tall tree is bending at a 90 degree angle and flailing in the wind, right before the sky vomits a sudden bucket of rain?

Scared my cat, that's for sure. Mars needs to keep its distance and give us back our weatheral stabilitude.

Darth007
Aug 27th, 2003, 05:54:45 AM
uh lol i think thats just you Visc weather is fine here

Darth Viscera
Aug 27th, 2003, 08:47:19 AM
Yeah well you live in "coffin", which must be an isolated place that's well away from all these worldwide weather deviations.

Weather's not fine lately in Europe.
Or the Middle East.
Or Washington D.C. When you think of Washington D.C., do you think of Monsoon season?

So no, the weather's not fine. It's either el nino or Mars or both!

Ryla Relvinian
Aug 27th, 2003, 09:52:03 AM
The weather around here hasn't been as hot in the mornings as usual, but, all in all, pretty good weather. I'm hoping for a nice clear night. :)

I just hope this doesn't predict the third coming of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. ;)

Dasquian Belargic
Aug 27th, 2003, 09:55:01 AM
He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? Which one of the couple of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's are we talking about? :mneh

William Belargic
Aug 27th, 2003, 02:10:29 PM
There's She-who-shall-not-be-named and He-who-shall-not-be-named... maybe she's refering to that He-who-shall-not-be-named?

I think?

*Looks to Ryla*

Am I thinking of the right one?

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 27th, 2003, 03:42:23 PM
No no! He must not be named!! :eek

I still think the worst one from the early days was NYUBoy00, and his "psychological experiment." He had everyone fooled, then we found out he was in league with Cinematic/Gorgonhorn.

It got quite ugly afterwards, IIRC.

imported_Marcus
Aug 29th, 2003, 04:58:05 PM
Oh god, NYUBoy00 was indeed terrible.

All other trolls were amateur compared to him

Master Yoghurt
Aug 30th, 2003, 04:31:11 PM
If I remember correctly, NYUBoy00 actually turned out to be.. :eek NYUBoy00 = Cinematic/Gorgonhorn

Thats what made him such an amazing troll. 3 of those combined into one! As Cin/Gorgon he would attack SW, and as NYUB it was the other way around. He was arguing with himself to provoke flame war, then when Cin/Gorgon were banned, he finally revealed himself and his little "psychological experiment"..

The original SW vs Titanic thread with Cinematic I still have stored on harddisk :)

Crystal
Aug 30th, 2003, 05:08:39 PM
Yoggy!!! :crack

I don't remember NYUBoy00.. or the "psychological experiment"Probaly before I actually started paying attention to anything here, but I'm rather curious now.

Master Yoghurt
Aug 30th, 2003, 05:40:17 PM
Well, I suppose I could quote the opening post of that thread. I wont post the whole thread, because it spiralled downwards and the flaming got pretty bad after a while, with some inappropriate language etc. But this one post explains what was the inspiration of the name "Turbogeek, and what would later become the turbogeek code. The forum ethics standard, where you defend SW and stop the trolls :)

Author Comment
CINEMATIC
(6/8/99 4:13:14 pm) SW is nothing compared to TITANIC - These are the facts
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Titanic was based on a real life incident. We
as the audience know the events depicted really happened to those poor people. Jack and Rose though fictional were the living embodiment of the hopes, fears, and dreams that everyone on the Titanic had. StarWars is a
total fantasy, so the empathy factor just isn't
there. Unless ofcourse you're a TURBOGEEK with minimal human contact.

2. Despite asinine SWTURBOGEEK assertions that Titanic's repeat audience was
all teenage girls, the truth is that Titanic's
repeat audience was divided fairly evenly across all demographic groups, including many well-educated adult males (such as myself).
TPM's pool of repeat viewers is much narrower, as it is almost entirely made up of 8-14 year old boys and hard-core SW "get-a-lifers".

3. The Performances in TPM were horrible. The little boy crying at the grocery store line could have given a more convincing performance than Jake Loyd. Titanic had absolutely beautiful performances from its actors. Their hopes made you care, their dreams inspired you, and their eventual fate made you feel a sense of foreboding. There were none of these elements in TPM unless ofcourse you're a TURBOGEEK.

4. In TPM, the special effects really call
attention to themselves, which tends to take us out of the moment. In Titanic, the special
effects served the story without getting in the
way of the story.

5. Unlike Titanic, TPM has Jar Jar Binks. What a horrible creature. Unless ofcourse you force yourself to like it and blindly accept it like so many of you TURBOGEEKS do.

Face it people TITANIC is the greatest movie in the world. TPM is the greatest pile of overhyped bull----.

TITANIC WINS

I got to love how Cinematic ended all his posts with "TITANIC WINS". His persuasive abilities were unrivaled! ;)
