View Full Version : SEcond day of work and It's too much to bear!

Hey, people. I'm at work. That's right, work. That thing that sucks but you get money for it. Another bright side to my job is that if there is nothing going on that needs my attention, I get to do homework.

My homework is about to put me to sleep. I have to read this book about Marriage, sex, and violence in the Hebrew prophets. The book is finally starting to make sense, but I spent all the rest of my mental energy trying to keep myself from getting mad at the author's evident ramblind and "men are scum" attitude that she tends to portray from time to time. Blah.

So essentially, things are up to speed. I am on top of my classes and have free time.

Colin Farrell is scum as well, but he's gorgeous Irish scum, and therefore tolerable as a bed warmer. :p

I had a class last year where the teacher was a staunch feminist and all we did was read those kinds of "men are scum" books. I must admit, men in our society can be pretty concieted and insensitive, but that's only because they are afraid to be honest about how they feel. They think people will call them sissies.

And what else bothers me is that women complain that there are not any decent men in the world anymore, but upon finding a decent guy will not date him. They would rather date the guy that treats them poorly. It's like they enjoy playing the martyr and complaining about everything.

Why can't people believe in equal rights. If men are scum, women are scum too :)

i just wanna know why if a guy goes out and bangs as many girls as he wants, hes called a stud, but if a woman does that, shes automatically labelled a slut :|

Why is it a woman can wear a skirt or trousers to work, but a man must wear trousers? Such is life :)

Aug 26th, 2003, 01:34:19 PM
No, I know plenty of mansluts. ;)

Seriously!

I had to take a class like that too, and the help I can give you, Wei, is to remember (or remind your teacher) that everybody acts not on what is right but on what is percieved as acceptable in that culture. Ever read about Dinah? Which prophets are you working on?

Edit: Fett, why not go for a utilikilt (http://www.utilikilt.com) ?

Some (straight) boys at my school petitioned the commitee to allow that. Some of them even wore skirts on a few non-uniform days. Didn't suceed :( Men can look so hot in skirts.

I call Silus that. IC of course :)

Also, why can girls join the Boy Scouts, but boys can't join the girl guides? :)

Ryla Relvinian
Aug 26th, 2003, 01:44:12 PM
See, the real reason is that the vast majority of men don't care to do any of those things, while the vast majority of women are fiercely paranoid that men are doing things behind their backs. That's why women always want to get into other organizations.

Personally, I wanted to join boyscouts as a first grader because the girlscouts was boring and the guys got to go camping while we had to learn embroidery. Pretty bum deal, if you ask me.

Dasquian Belargic
Aug 26th, 2003, 01:45:23 PM
Yeah, the Brownies was rubbish. Honestly, boys wouldn't have wanted to join it.

ReaperFett
Aug 26th, 2003, 01:51:49 PM
I understand that to an extent Ryla, but some boys HAVE requested entry into the girl guides (NO JOKES!:)), and have been flat out refused, while the Boy Scouts were forced/told to change the rules.

Why is it a girl wants to do boy things and she is a tomboy, while a boy wants to do girl things, and he is labelled gay by all?

Why is it we can have on midday TV a program called Loose Women where men are often slated, while if the same was on at midday for males it'd be instantly labelled sexist trash?

Why is it our government has a rule to stop sexism by expecting a company to have a certain amount of female workers minimum, which means that a man and a woman go for a job and despite the man having more experience and qualifications, the woman gets the job due to the fact she is a woman. Is that not sexist also?

Okay, done all I can think of now. Just opposing S'il's comment ;)

Such interesting and thought provoking conversation. Maybe I should change the label to something besides SPAM.

My beef with the whole "Men are scum" or "Women are scum" type of thinking is this:

People think that relationships (friendships, dating relationships) are about one or the other being in control. Human relatonships are about two people helping each other grow and become better people. And that can only happen when both sides of a relationship learn to forego their own desires and interest themselves in the well-being of the other person.

ha! it wasnt a comment, silly fett, it was a question :) and it was answered :p

and personally, i dont care how many people you sleep with, whether youre a girl or a guy. everyones human, and im not about to deny that fact. if i could, id sleep with a few more guys before settling down completely just to see whats out there. and before anyone says anything about the only safe sex is no sex, i already know that

i dont think men are scum or women either for that matter. yeah, there are exceptions for me, but for the most part, people are gonna be people. and i have no problems with it. hell, i wouldnt even care if my current boyfriend went out and slept with some girl. i cant tell you why, thats just how i feel. and if anyone wants to say something along the lines of 'if thats how you feel, then maybe you dont really love him', then ima just shrug and say well, thanks for the opinion. i know what i feel and how i feel for my guy.

so those are just a few of my thoughts. i dont expect anyone to agree with me, thats why its called an opinion

Not whining about the fact that my job lets me study while I get paid. The fact that I have little or no homework to occupy my time.

Thats true, and about that Loose women programe. It seems nowadays its fine to criticise white males, but anyone else? Nope. Its like the safe option. Now obviously men can be insensitive and the usual stereotypes, but its hardly that every male walking the planet is the same.
If any critism whatsoever toward any minority or women can be instantly labled racist/sexist, then I think something is wrong. At my work man-bashing was done nearly every day by a couple of women, if I had said anything in that manner about women, I would have been sacked. I see it as if there is equality it has to be both ways, whether the question is either sexism or racism.

I have to agree that men do get the short end of the stick when it comes to all this stuff. I know for a fact there are women at there who are worse then the men they bash.

I feel for ya guys, it isn't right you get bashed the way you do. I for one, step in when I hear some guys being bashed.

So, we're not all men-haters! :lol

I had to sit down and have a long talk with the plant manager where I work one time for telling a woman she was full of fecal matter, and that everytime she spoke, I lost x amount of braincells. She was manbashing, which she did everyday.

She also has three kids and doesnt know who the father is.....i made sure I mentioned that back to her.

Plant manager told me that what I did was unnacceptable, and ignored the fact that what she was saying was technically sexual harassment.

If I wasnt so important, I woulda gotten fired.....but im not a retard, so they really cant afford to lose me atm.

I need to call my lawyer.

There are some of us men out there Hollie that are not scum and respect and cherish women. :\ Though i have never really had a girlfriend to do so, im sure i would treat her with the attitude which would be quite the opersite of 'scummish'.

We few men are rare i shall grant you, though we do exsist. But as Wei said, you women seem to go after the more nasty guy that treats your poorly yet complain there are not decent men. Us men cant win. :)

If Clancy or any of his puppets ever turns out another Net Force book, I swear I'll label him a porno writer.

Although I must admit that Quantum Computers, Virtual Reality, and photo-realistic environments sounds pretty cool. ^_^;

I'd recommend anything by Timothy Zahn, who in my opinion is the god of all Star Wars writers. He's returning to the Star Wars universe with the Outbound Flight Project books, if I remember correctly, and they sound pretty darn cool...almost as cool as Reaper in a Utilikilt. :D

I don't really think all men are scum. I think that a lot of men are too worried about "doing it right" or "giving the right impression" that they forget to be themselves. 'Cause they think women want obnoxious, full of themselves men.

Or maybe they're just always like that. :p

Anyway, blah. Men = blah

It's a matter of finding balance. Many guys tend to put on the "obnoxious, full of themselves" facade because they keep hearing that women like men that are confident in themselves. The problem is that confidence, be it an act or not, can easily become arrogance in the eyes of ones peers. So, you end up with a big group of the pompous and self-absorbed (again, be it an act or not), and a big group at the other extreme of the shy and introverted, neither of which likely has much appeal in the eyes of the typical woman.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to give the right impression, it's just that all too often, it's an impression at one extreme or the other.

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 27th, 2003, 03:44:34 PM
There is nothing wrong with confidence. Confidence is good. If a man has no confidence, he has almost nothing to offer a woman, imo.

Arrogance is bad. Confidence is good. Being a wimpy pushover is bad.

In other words, yes, exactly right, Figrin. :)

Actually, I'm not quite the exact opposite of my IC character. Wei has the "act without thinking" flaw too.

Example: In a recent RP I am doing/have done, Wei is on trial. This trial is supposed to determine whether or not Wei will leave the territory alive. And Wei acts like nothing serious is going on and talks and walks like his life were not on the line. He's seriously making some people mad.

Difference between me and Wei is that Wei can somehow make it so it turns out all good in the end. I on the other hand...well... am not so lucky, we'll say.

I truly think that Wei's only major problem is his naive...erm...ity...

I remember a loooooooooong time ago, Wei got lured away by Vega where a giant battle ensued, concluding with half the order coming to his assistance.

Boy, those were the times...
