My birthday gift is here, long before it is due, and it's a 13" TV! :D I get to use my computer and play video games/watch TV ALL AT ONCE! Ah...dreams do come true...^____^

But what about eating?

Who needs nutrition and sustenance when you have a 13"?

Zeke
Aug 16th, 2003, 03:22:47 PM
Food? Drinks? I wake up at lunch, eat something then, and bring dinner back upstairs with me! ^___^

13? ugh. Sorry.

Zeke
Aug 16th, 2003, 03:55:46 PM
Sure it's little, but it travels to college and fits easily onto my limited shelf space in my room! It's better than having to steal the giant one out of someone else's room.

I'd just get a video in card and use dscaler or emulators. I have a 19" monitor since my sister took my 15" LCD.

I guess if its what you want, its all good. :)

Mom's not that thoughtful. Besides, if my computer is playing my TV and videogames, how will I chat and post?

Morgan Evanar

Alt-tab ;) Its how I do it.

Zeke

And you can do the same with a 52"?! :eek :D

I have TV out too. :D

But really, TVs (high end HDTVs exempted) suck at resolution. There is so much more pixel space on a 14" monitor than almost any television.

Makoto Neo
Aug 16th, 2003, 04:25:04 PM
Very true.

I haven't seen the 52" yet, tho, but it's $1,399 Sony or something.. not sure on the res. quality

How do you concentrate on your game while chatting? o_O I mean having to do the alt-tab thing all the time.

Crystal

I can't do it.. That's why I always put up an away message when playing a game.

TV just plain sucks. The only decent thing on it is the sleeping cat

Aha, but you're WRONG! Every Friday there is one hour of TV that ROCKS! For the rest of the time, there's Phantasy Star Online.

It isn't our fault you have to endure "Neighbours" and other such gems.

American TV != Aussie TV = back in your box, laddie.

History channel, Cartoon Network, and Food TV are :cool

You got to be kidding me Charley, Aussie TV is the height of art compared to the crap that comes out of the USA. What, you telling me that Neigbours is worse than the latest reality TV dreck? Or latest sit-com? Or Gameshow? Or just about anything off FOX?

If I had to endure TV, it's Aust ABC all the way which have intelliegent programming, with BBC produced programs.

BBC = two thumbs fresh

FOX, I've never watched, but there are some good US shows. Everywhere makes good and bad stuff. Apart from France, who just make terrible stuff allround.

Japan has the best TV. Takeshi's Castle :lol

Or....

C: 'Ello, Miss?
Owner: What do you mean "miss"?
C: I'm sorry, I have a cold. I wish to make a complaint!
O: We're closin' for lunch.
C: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about this parrot what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very boutique.
O: Oh yes, the, uh, the Norwegian Blue...What's,uh...What's wrong with it?
C: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it!
O: No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting.
C: Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.
O: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, isn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!
C: The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead.
O: Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting!
C: All right then, if he's restin', I'll wake him up!
(shouting at the cage)
'Ello, Mister Polly Parrot! I've got a lovely fresh cuttle fish for you if you show...(owner hits the cage)
O: There, he moved!
C: No, he didn't, that was you hitting the cage!
O: I never!!
C: Yes, you did!
O: I never, never did anything...
C: (yelling and hitting the cage repeatedly) 'ELLO POLLY!!!!! Testing! Testing! Testing! Testing! This is your nine o'clock alarm call!
(Takes parrot out of the cage and thumps its head on the counter. Throws it up in the air and watches it plummet to the floor.)
C: Now that's what I call a dead parrot.
O: No, no.....No, 'e's stunned!
C: STUNNED?!?
O: Yeah! You stunned him, just as he was wakin' up! Norwegian Blues stun easily, major.
C: Um...now look...now look, mate, I've definitely 'ad enough of this. That parrot is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not 'alf an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement was due to it bein' tired and shagged out following a prolonged squawk.
O: Well, he's...he's, ah...probably pining for the fjords.
C: PININ' for the FJORDS?!?!?!? What kind of talk is that?, look, why did he fall flat on his back the moment I got 'im home?
O: The Norwegian Blue prefers kippin' on it's back! Remarkable bird, innit, squire? Lovely plumage!
C: Look, I took the liberty of examining that parrot when I got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been sitting on its perch in the first place was that it had been NAILED there.
(pause)
O: Well, o'course it was nailed there! If I hadn't nailed that bird down, it would have nuzzled up to those bars, bent 'em apart with its beak, and VOOM! Feeweeweewee!
C: "VOOM"?!? Mate, this bird wouldn't "voom" if you put four million volts through it! 'E's bleedin' demised!
O: No no! 'E's pining!
C: 'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!
(pause)
O: Well, I'd better replace it, then.
(he takes a quick peek behind the counter)
O: Sorry squire, I've had a look 'round the back of the shop, and uh, we're right out of parrots.
C: I see. I see, I get the picture.
O: I got a slug.
(pause)
C: (sweet as sugar) Pray, does it talk?
O: Nnnnot really.
C: WELL IT'S HARDLY A BLOODY REPLACEMENT, IS IT?!!???!!?
O: Look, if you go to my brother's pet shop in Bolton, he'll replace the parrot for you.
C: Bolton, eh? Very well.
The customer leaves.
The customer enters the same pet shop. The owner is putting on a false moustache.
C: This is Bolton, is it?
O: (with a fake mustache) No, it's Ipswich.
C: (looking at the camera) That's inter-city rail for you.
The customer goes to the train station.
He addresses a man standing behind a desk marked "Complaints".
C: I wish to complain, British-Railways Person.
Attendant: I DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS JOB, YOU KNOW!!!
C: I beg your pardon...?
A: I'm a qualified brain surgeon! I only do this job because I like being my own boss!
C: Excuse me, this is irrelevant, isn't it?
A: Yeah, well it's not easy to pad these python files out to 200 lines, you know.
C: Well, I wish to complain. I got on the Bolton train and found myself deposited here in Ipswich.
A: No, this is Bolton.
C: (to the camera) The pet shop man's brother was lying!!
A: Can't blame British Rail for that.
C: In that case, I shall return to the pet shop!
He does.
C: I understand this IS Bolton.
O: (still with the fake mustache) Yes?
C: You told me it was Ipswich!
O: ...It was a pun.
C: (pause) A PUN?!?
O: No, no...not a pun...What's that thing that spells the same backwards as forwards?
C: (Long pause) A palindrome...? O: Yeah, that's it!
C: It's not a palindrome! The palindrome of "Bolton" would be "Notlob"!! It don't work!!
O: Well, what do you want?
C: I'm not prepared to pursue my line of inquiry any longer as I think this is getting too silly!

Some of my favorite Japanese Anime:
Lupin the 3rd
*Tries to think of name of show that comes on Adult Swim, tall guy, red jacket, blonde hair, pistol, deadly accuracy, deals with all kinds of freaks that attack Arabian looking town with two girls that are after him, he reportedly killed a town of 1 million people*
Old Classics I still like:
Kenshin (Japanese voices)
*Can't Remember Name*
Fushugi-Yugi???
*Can't Remember Name*

-lupin the 3rd is good; 'castle of cagliostro' is one of miyazaki's best, as well as castle in the sky

-naussica is also very good

-the show youre talking about with the red jacket is trigun

-escaflowne is by far my favorite anime

-flcl is good too, if not whacked out

-vampire hunter d is just... classic

-rourouni kenshin is also very good, though if you like that kinda stuff, i recommend you read the 'blade of the immortal' manga. its wonderful

-ghost in the shell was very well done also, though i highly think you should read the manga; the sequal, 'manmachine interface', is available in the us, but the graphic novel is in japanese, and i dont know when the english translation is coming out

-the 'clover' manga is also very good, but dont get the translated ones. stick with the japanese; theres more to be pulled from it as the translation destroys the story

-cowboy bebop; well, thats just a wonderful anime. nuff said

-ninja scroll is alright, but it puts me to sleep for some reason

-blue sub 6 is simply fantastic

-akira = classic

-spriggan was done by the same guys that made akira, and is actually pretty good

thats all i feel like naming right now. ill think of some more later

Some of mine:

Hyper Police(obvious): tis good without being too serious, campy at times but ah well

Inuyasha(obvious again): good story and humor

Ranma 1/2: another good humor

Vandread: males vs. females, leads to some funny jokes...

Burn Up W: funny anime overall, plot is a little lacking but ah well....

Iria: first anime I ever saw that I liked, been hooked ever since....

Excel Saga: very silly anime but funny as hell....

hmm, all I can come up with for now.....:)

C-bebop
Spriggan
Castle in the sky
All the above some of my favorites.
Spirited Away
Seen it so many times no longer one of my favorites.
OOH OH OH. Trying to think of name of hilarious Anime.
Began with an E. Electra......I don't think so...........hmmmm........
Has wacky girl, dog slated to be eaten at end of each episode, guy that keeps killing her every time she runs her mouth off in space base, little black hole with arms assistant of boss, in one episode she causes a four truck collision that brings down building under construction killing wacky worker. Bark Bark, Bark Bark Bark Bark, Aowr, Aowr (If you eat me, please do it in one blow so that the meat does not get hard).

-neia under seven was just... absurdly cute

-blood was good too, interesting take on vamps

-blue seed was interesting

-aeon flux, done by peter chung, is my absolute personal favorite. although it doesnt look like the anime most people are used to seeing, its still anime

-reign is also done by peter chung; i havent seen it yet as it was just released in the us, but it chung; its gotta be good

Aug 18th, 2003, 05:34:01 PM
Anime titles that sound totally awesome in Japan end up sounding retarded when they're sent to America. due to the Japanese lacking some letters of the alphabet.

An example is FLCL, aka Fooly Cooly, aka Furi Kuri. The Japanese tend to replace our 'L's with 'R's, due to them not having an R.

Some of my favorites:

Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
TENCHI!!!! (He gets it on in the movies! Yay!!!)
Blue Sub 6
Outlaw Star
FLCL
Love Hina
Bubble Gum Crisis
Neon Genesis Evangelion
El Hazard (but it got kinda boring)
Trigun
Digimon
Macross
Big-O (Whoever named it should be FIRED!)
Pokemon (Pika-pika!)
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell
Akira
Gundam Wing (the others look like they were drawn in the 70's...which they were...)

I like most animes, actually. Blue Sub 6 had that great CG in it, and is probably my favorite sleeper anime hit. Miyazaki is a genius, all of his movies were great. Ghost in the Shell is fantastic, as is Akira. Everything else up there inspires me to shell out 30 bucks for DVD's, to stay up til' 2am to watch on Adult Swim, or to wake up at 7am on Saturdays. :D
