Anyone know where I can get about 2 gigs of ram for cheap? Perferably less than 75 bucks per gig, but whatever works.

Charley got there before I did. Ask again in a few years. :)

Edit: Cheapest one I can find is £229.99 - that's for 1Gig by the way. You're looking at about $520 roughly by that reckoning.

So to answer your question: No, because there's no way in hell that much RAM will go cheap. Not for a long time at least.

Can your motherboard even handle that much RAM? Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

Oh, that's the funniest thing I've seen in a loooong time!

FYI: all the system from the 486 and up are capable of addressing up to 4GB of ram.... They just never though they would ever get THAT much ram on one mother board...

but....LOL that is funny 2gb of ram for under 75bucks!! Not in this life time... And if you DO find it for that cheep PLEESE LET ME KNOW!!!

Why do you need 2 gigs of system memory? Are you running the professional version of Maya or something?

Look around on Pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com), and make sure you know what is compatable with your system for you buy anything. Expect to spend, minimum, about $300, for two 1-gig sticks. Single 2 gig sticks are ridiculously expensive.

What are you going to do with that memory anyway? And you wonder why I told you to STFU in the other thread...

I would like that much memory because I plan on making an animated film of abotu half an hour in length and it will be about fifteen to twenty frames per second. So, I need a lot of ram for the processing of all that, as well as some of the higher-end graphics that I do. But, I would be more than content with simply one gig, myself. I'll get more when I get something with a better progessor than a 1.7 GhZ P4.

Unless its compiled for a P4, dual Athlons would be your best bet =D

Actually, you can make an Athlon renderfarm very cleaply nowadays.

I know you do 3d art. Rendering eats memory like pie. Mmmmmm pie.

lol er whoops. Got my amount of memory wrong -_-. But yea, I just got a new computer, and its only got 256 mb of ram so i was looking to get a little more. I meant 100 mb of ram, not a gig. My bad. Thanks for flamming me to a crisp though =)

My fathers laptop has 2 ghz and 2.5 gigs of ram, I think anyway. Very expensive laptop, why he has that much I'm not sure.

If your running XP, adding another 256Mb should serve you well. Adding 512Mb would the most I would go, unless you're planning on doing rendering or video editing of some kind. For standard stuff though, this should be just fine.

15-20 frames per second? That's very non-standard. If you want to ensure future compatibility, go with 24 frames per second (or 30 if you prefer, I'd do 24), or if you want dedicated PAL, go with 25. No matter what, stay progressive.

23.976 fps
25 fps
29.970 fps

I'd pick one of those. Later on, you can make a DVD out of it, or whatever. The only thing you'll be able to play something that's 15-20fps on is a computer, unless you know how to telecine it to 30fps later on, which is tricky to do right.

I was thinking of 15-20 drawn frames per second. I'm sorry, I realize I think in different terms than normal. It would run at a total 30 FPS in rendered speed, but there would be a fluxusation of actual drawn cels in each second. I've monkeyed with that before with moderate success.
