The pulse cannons are based on Electro magnetic propusion technology fed directly from the main engine systems. The 150mm fully automatic system fires at extreme rpm’s, approximately 80,000-81,000 RPM. They have an accurate range of about 10,000 km in favourable conditions, the projectiles are programmable to armour piercing explosive warhead, fragmentation or alternatively high yield plasma warheads can be used. Due to the high rate of fire, a fraction-of-a-second burst from the weapon can unleash hundreds of rounds making it extremely effective at neutralising light craft or significantly damaging larger ones.
The rather wasteful rate of fire however, requires that the weapon is used as a last resort, and in a more defensive role (i.e. Star destroyer defence against fighters/bombers/interceptors).
