View Full Version : One For The Guys...

Okay, here's a subject I never hear people talk about, but one I feel could use a little banter.

Guys, what kind of after-shave do you use?

Now, I use, and have always used, Aqua-Velva's Ice Blue alcohol-based after-shave, and find it to be okay, and also smells pretty nice too.

But, seeing as I have never tried any other brands, I'd jsut like to see what some of you guys use and how well you like or don't like it. No point, really, jsut curious, and wondering if I should stick to my current favorite.

I dont.

Afta is the only answer.

Droo
Jun 10th, 2003, 04:58:02 PM
Immediately after I shave, I apply Nivea after-shave balm; it's soothing and ensures that my skin wont burn afterwards.

As for the more scented of after-saves/colognes I use, there's "Blue Jeans", "Pi", "Hugo", "Cassini" and "L'eau d'Issey". I hate aftershaves that give me a headache. "Obsession" is one of those! >_<

Figrin D'an
Jun 10th, 2003, 04:58:28 PM
It varies... I've used several different brands. I think right now I'm using Gilette Cool Wave aftershave gel, although I have found that the alcohol-based liquids are more to my liking.

I'm not sure I have an absolute favorite, though.

Charley
Jun 10th, 2003, 04:59:54 PM
Nivea aftershave balm is a good choice. When I first started shaving my head, I used that. Now, I'm strictly on afta.

Gilette...blarg. My dad uses that. I don't like the burn.

Sejah Haversh
Jun 10th, 2003, 05:00:57 PM
Well, AV just has a light scent, but it's not meant to be a cologne. I hate heavy cologne...

And, as far as Afta goes, I suppose I should try it, coming from the guy who shaves his head.

AV is nice; it stings a little, but then the cooling sensation sinks in and I'm great for the rest of the day.

Droo
Jun 10th, 2003, 05:03:36 PM
I couldn't possibly splash on an alcohol-based after-shave, I'd scream. It has to be cool and soothing, preferably unscented or a weak scent because that's what cologne is for.

Why use alcohol-based burn-the-flesh-from-your-mug after-saves anyway? Do they have qualities which enable them to do thier job better than heavenly Nivea sensitive balms?

I refuse to support A&F. Thirty bucks for a plain green tee-shirt is jsut wrong.

And, AV doesn't really burn hardly at all, and the alcohol really cools your skin. After my bottle runs out, though, I'll try some Afta.

Old Spice, don't care its cheap, smells good and gets the job done. But use whatever depends on sensetivity and what not, usually the lighter the beard the less alcohol you want because your skin prolly isn't as tough. I have to shave twice a day to stay ontop of mine so I go for the strong stuff.

I wear Body by Victoria. Smells clean and nice and peeps like it.

On men, I absolutely adore Obsession. It makes me go crazy and I want to bite (amongst other things). Sadly no one wears it, not even older men.

I have a fetish for english and scottish accents (as you all know), AND Obsession. I think anyone could have a combo of the two and I would marry him. That's how much I adore Obsession.

To smell it is like the almost satisfaction you get before sexual climax and the satisfaction you get when taking the first bite of food when you've been starving.

Tommy Boy is... ehh. I've used it. It's okay. Polo Sport is good. I've tried lots of things. I'm typically not afraid to try something new cologne-wise.

Shaving is like a curse and blessing for me. To stay clean shaven is a chore, and I tend to alternate between a plain razor and and Norelco electric so I don't rip my face apart. Close shaves take me forever because of the roughness of my beard. On the other hand, when I want to grow my beard out, it doesn't take very long, and it gets nice and full and looks good, IMO.

I don't have to go anywhere to get Obsession. I bought myself that and two neck chains as birthday gifts this year. It smells nice on me, and I think I'm gonna keep buying it.

As for shaving the whiskers off my chin, I generally use Edge Shaving gel, sans any after-shave. Lately I've been using some really generic Colgate stuff because I bought it on a trip to have something to shave with. I don't want to just throw it away, so I've been using it up. (Don't buy generic shaving cream if you can help it.) I've been thinking about switching shaving cream brands, but I haven't tried anything else and I'm temporarily low on $ so I can't afford to experiment right now.

Yeah, I imagine that if I had been born a girl that I would probaly have wanted to marry a guy who would look like a Agent Charley with a shaved head. ;)

Yeah I know it's strange. I just have a thing for guys who shave their heads. Vin Disel, Michael Rosenbaum. Yummy.

Except that, by the time he gets to the copy of the copy of the copy, it'll only respond with, "Okay, d00d, read the FAQ" and "I like whiskey."
