Superman has got to be near the top for heroes, maybe Luke Skywalker too. Vader is certainly going to be in the top 3 villains, I would scream too if he isn't.

I have a feeling Hannible will beat Vader out but that is fine with me they are both great villains. I can't think of anybody who is been bigger or better on screen than those two. Sure there is Dracula but I don't see him more terrifying than Lectar or Vader.

Well then, who will be villian numero 100?? Count Ruben from The Princess Bride!!

Droo
Jun 3rd, 2003, 01:38:56 PM
Agent Smith had better be high up there somewhere. Superman had better be Number One Hero, if not then I hope it's someone really great who I haven't thought of yet. :)

Edit: Don't forget Magneto(Ian McKellen).

Superman stinks!

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 3rd, 2003, 01:58:31 PM
Superman will be up there not sure about #1. Also Agent Smith didn't make the cut, the only one up from the Matrix is Neo. If you go to the AFI site you will see the 400 candidates. The SW Saga has about the most five candidates Han, Luke, Leia, Obi-Wan, and Darth Vader. I am not sure if all of the will make the top 100 though, I know Vader will Luke probably will the other three are maybes.

My vote for #1 hero: Indiana Jones. Bar none. End of story.

Vader better get #1 villian... I guess I could accept him being beaten by Hannibal Lector, but not by anyone else.

ReaperFett
Jun 3rd, 2003, 02:16:18 PM
Keyser Soze normally is in the top three with Lector and Vader, so any of them.

What channel is this on???

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 3rd, 2003, 02:16:46 PM
Looking at the list of characters I can't see another villain worthy of being #1. Their are a lot of good ones on there though Hans Gruber to Kaiser Soze.

Correct-o-mundo.

Hosted by the future governor of California, Arnold Schwartzenegger. ;) :lol

Jedi Master Carr

Arnold should make this list as well, probably as the Terminator.

before every commercial break, will he say he'll be back? :)

Jedi Master Carr

I pray he doesn't

JMK

Batman and Joker should be on the list as well.
Captain Kirk has got to make it too...

Call me weird, but I've never heard the name Atticus Finch until about 10 minutes ago...

Figrin D'an
Jun 3rd, 2003, 09:04:50 PM
Atticus Finch as #1 hero? What a load of horse crap.

Nothing against Gregory Peck, nothing against the story or the character (because it is a very good story), but there is no way that Atticus Finch should be higher on the list than Indiana Jones, James Bond, Rick Blaine, or any number of others.

The top three villians went as I expected... I still would put Vader ahead of both Lector and Bates, but those are at least reasonable choices.

At least Vader made the top ten. :\ Lecture was a good choice for number one, but I've never seen To Kill A Mockingbird >_<

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 3rd, 2003, 09:08:52 PM
I was surprised there though it would be Indy. I am glad Vader made the top 3 villains, SW got 3 in all with Han Solo and Obi-Wan

Taylor Millard
Jun 3rd, 2003, 09:11:46 PM
Who got #1 villain anyway?

You guys're talking like Norman Bates beat out Lecter and Vader...

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 3rd, 2003, 09:14:17 PM
It was Lectar of course I would have been shocked if it wasn't him. I agree with you Figrin, Atticus is high, IMO I think the older memebers of AFI won out there.

Taylor Millard
Jun 3rd, 2003, 09:18:41 PM
Oh...goodie goodie.

I'm glad the person I use for the basis of my character is considered the best villain out there.

Although tied for first is Vader and Lecter in my mind.

And Atticus Finch as #1 hero?

I dunno 'bout that choice. I didnt' even know he was supposed to be a hera in 'To Kill a Mockingbird'

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 3rd, 2003, 09:22:09 PM
Some Villains got the shaft, IMO. Hans Gruber (48), Dracula (31) and heros no John Mclain what is up with that and nobody from Gone with the Wind that is a shock. Also no Michael Myers either. And a recent hero Gandalf (he made the 400 cut) didn't make it either. Also you could argue about Luke he did beat Vader by the way.

Atticus Finch No 1 HERO????????

Oh for God's sake, what a load of rot.

ReaperFett
Jun 4th, 2003, 01:27:20 AM
Why is it? Any top 100 is opinion-based. I question Bates being there at all, I don't find him that interesting.

Jun 4th, 2003, 02:29:58 AM
what about hans gruber making the list but not john mcclane

and if anyone is interested i did make a page for the top 100

I could pull a better list out of my bum. BIG thumb's down the the AFI

Charley
Jun 4th, 2003, 04:49:55 AM
As much as I love To Kill a Mockingbird, putting Atticus on top of that list is a load of garbage.

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 4th, 2003, 06:27:35 AM
I agree top 10 defintely but not #1. And what about Ben-Hur? He didn't even make the list. And Reaper I disagree with you about Bates his character was evil in Psycho I would pick Vader before him, but to me he is #3.

JMK

Lassie makes it but Luke doesn't?
How did they make this list?

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 4th, 2003, 09:44:50 AM
Well Lassie I didn't have a huge problem with but they were a few on there that I didn't know and didn't understand why they made it.

CMJ
Jun 4th, 2003, 10:21:13 AM
Actually I thought it was a pretty good list overall. There were a few WTF kinda things, but no more than I would have over anyone else's list.

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 4th, 2003, 11:53:32 AM
What did you think about Finich CMJ?

CMJ
Jun 4th, 2003, 11:56:19 AM
A surprise to be sure, but not a huge shocker.

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 4th, 2003, 12:11:14 PM
I was shocked I thought people like Oscar Schindler and Indiana Jones, James Bond and Rocky all deserved to be before him. But hey that is just my opinion.

CMJ
Jun 4th, 2003, 12:32:06 PM
Well by that time we had seen all of those people. I'm speaking of my thoughts as the show was going on. Out of the characters they HADN'T mentioned it was a "Oh yeah I can see why him" when they got to #1.

Jedi Master Carr
Jun 4th, 2003, 12:35:51 PM
I didn't see him coming, I thought it was going to Ben-Hur (the only I could think of who they hadn't shown yet) but he didn't even make the list. Honestly that is a shock they choose Moses over Ben-Hur? I would say Ben-Hur was a better character movie wise I wonder why that happened.

Here are some Heroes and Villains that I'm disappointed didn't make the list. I guess because the movies are a bit obscure. I've listed them by Character, Actor/Actress, Movie and Year. So you can track them down in the video store and judge for yourselves.

HEROES
William Wallace (Mel Gibson) Braveheart (1995)
Leon (Jean Reno) Leon/The Professional 1994)
Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) The Crow (1994)
Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) Highlander (1986)
Phillipe Gaston (Matthew Broderick) Ladyhawke (1985)

VILLAINS
John Herod (Gene Hackman) The Quick and the Dead (1995)
Archibald Cunningham (Tim Roth) Rob Roy (1995)
Mr. Smith (Christopher Walken) Nick of Time (1995)
Agent Stansfield (Gary Oldman) Leon/The Professional (1994)
Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) The Crow (1994)
Emil Fouchon (Lance Henrikson) Hard Target (1993)
Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone) Basic Instinct (1992)
Severen (Bill Paxton) Near Dark (1987)
John Ryder (Rutger Hauer) The Hitcher (1986)
The Kurgan (Clancy Brown) Highlander (1986)
Lord Darkness (Tim Curry) Legend (1985)
Martin Taylor (Sting) Brimstone & Treacle (1982)
Mordred (Robert Addie) Excalibur (1981)

Leon (Jean Reno) Leon/The Professional 1994)

Heroic hitman? ;)

Warlock
Jun 4th, 2003, 02:35:28 PM
He was a hero at the end of the movie, definetly :)

Charley
Jun 5th, 2003, 04:46:54 AM
Um...William Wallace didn't make the list?

Screw this list. How can you miss putting him on there?

jjwr
Jun 5th, 2003, 06:12:12 AM
Wierd list, can't say I agree with a lot of it. Like a lot of the AFI stuff its skewed to a older generation of movies. There is a fair amount of representation of the past 20 years but as we're seeing there are some obvious omissions.

Now Atticus I can see being placed highly, it was a very well acted role and the character definetely had his heroic traits. But more heroic than Indiana Jones? Jones is just as smart and does all the other cool stuff to boot. Attiticus stood up for the down trodden, Indiana took out lots of Nazi's! Atticus is someone you would admire, Inidiana is someone you would want to be.

I'm dissapointed Luke didn't make it either, he had his bad moments but he was pretty darn good too.

The Terminator on both lists, that was cool.

Norman Bates over Vader? Why? How? Killing a few people in a motel room has nothing over what Vader did.

Charley

Was Tom Joad on the list?

JMK
