Okay week 5 here and two new wide releases. Finding Nemo (the Pixar-Disney collabriation) and the Italian Job a remake of an older film. So will Bruce Allmighty stay on top? Its up to you to figure that out.

Its not playing near me, 1300 theaters is a lot but not enough to make more than 5 million for this particular film.

I've got the feeling this week will be hard to pick. Finding Nemo will depend not on reviews, but what people think of Pixar and the reputation they now have. I feel a new Pixar movie has to be big now.

1. Finding Nemo - $68.99987 mill
2. Bruce almighty - $35.222 mill
3. The Wog Job - $23.1936753mill
4. The Matrix Unloaded $17.000001 mill
5. Daddy Day Care $7.129665

I seem to recall "Toy Story": being a Disney film as well sirdizzy. Pixar has been owned by them for years now.

Well reviews for Nemo are excellent, I guess Pixar doesn't want another year without getting the animation oscar.

I'm amazed it is. You mena it could actually be good?

ReaperFett
May 30th, 2003, 07:44:57 PM
Maybe :)

I think the thing is, the US doesnt really know the original. And from the sounds of it, it's not really taking much from it either. But WE will see this piddle-poor adaptation of a modern day classic, where if Mark Wahlberg says about blowing any doors off, I will go on a wild rampage hurting people :)

Nemo's number is quite a bit higher than Monsters, Inc.'s first Friday: $17.4M. Monsters ended the weekend with $62.6M. Can Nemo beat that? Looks like it. That would be a surprise, I think. Monsters had a huge Fri-Sat increase, don't know if Nemo'll do the same. Then again, it has a lead.

Well Nemo could make 70, IMO depending on the increase on Saturday. It should also do good on Sunday with kids out of school.

Looks like Reaper is the big winner this week he picked the highest guess on Nemo. Heck now I think Nemo has a chance at being the #1 movie of the summer. I think it should have better drops than the Matrix has had.

:)

If you saw one of my edits, I considered 70 mill for Nemo. But, just didnt think it could do it.

Oh well.

edit - Who would have thought MR would be crashing like it is after such an opening? Talk about redefining Front Loaded.

But, it does leave the summer BO champ up for grabs. I dont see MR doing beyond 275 now, which is beatable.

How about Finding Nemo as a possibility? I dont really see it having the drops. And it has no real competition for a few weeks. I dont really think The Hulk and T3 will make it..

I thought for an one second it might do 70 but reconsidered, I thought it would do like 65 at the most. As for Summer champ well it is between 3 movies right now, IMO. Matrix, Nemo and to me the wild card Hulk. I have no clue what Hulk will do, I am certain it will top the 50 something opening of AP2 (which is the current June weekend record). Right now I think it will do 80-90 first weekend, but as we have seen from X2 and MXR that doesn't seem to matter. Also watchout for Bruce Almighty it only dropped 44% from last weekend that was better than X2 and Matrix.

I believe "Finding Nemo" will win the summer. Kids films generally have solid holds.
