My latest creation has been making the rounds on the computer-modding circuit, but I thought some Star Wars fans might like to see it. I put an entire computer inside an old Millenium Falcon toy from Kenner...

You can see more pictures here (http://www.xkill.net/rcaslis/computers/Falcon/index.html)

and you can buy a DVD which shows the process I used to create it (along with other computer mods) here: http://www.xkill.com

The monitor simply isn't in the picture. It connects over here:

And you haven't even seen some of the best stuff...

The power light actually glows all colors (blue, red, green, etc) and fades between them.

The exhaust ports on the back of the falcon actually have 6 laptop exhaust fans.

You can actually see the hard-drive itself through this window (yes, that is the read/write head and yes it works). Whenever the drive is accessed, the internals light up blue.

and who can forget the light-up engine bay

<img src=http://www.thegjo.com/forum/smileys/NotWorthygif.gif> That thing rules.

Did you recover the hard drive with a window or something like that?

I actually used a piece of clear transparency to cover the hole I cut in the drive. Because the sides are hidden, the actual cuts don't need to be so clean.

If you *REALLY* want to know how, just buy the DVD! ;)

Sorry... had to say that.

You are my favorite n00b/geek ever. Please continue making awesome things like this.

Furthermore, is this Falcon a piece of junk, specs wise, or is it still the fastest ship in the galaxy, or close to it?

It's awesome, but I don't see how someone can fit it all in something so small. It's still neat though.

You've obviously never seen the old skool Millennium Falcon then. That was almost large enough to fit an X-box in.

And x-box's are friggen huge. A friend of mine had friends how figured out some stats, and they said that a gamecube and a PS2 could fit inside an x-box, with about 3 cubic inches to spare.

But yeah, that = very nice. *claps*

I don't know much about computers, and I haven't seen an old Millenium Falcon either :p

They're right - that model Flacon is indeed huge. I would never have thought about putting a PC in one. however, so props there dor some original thinking

Specs-wise... the Falcon is so-so. It uses an 800mhz C3 processor (slower than a Celeron). The on-board video isn't that great either. But is makes a fine linux server...

And this *IS* the old Falcon, from 1979 to be precise. There is simply no way an XBOX would fit inside.

Here's a basic view of the 2 biggest components - the motherboard and the power supply. Each one is smaller than the one in the xbox. And there are lots of cables and connectors to add...

Also.. don't forget that the Falcon is tapered so that for over 50% of the surface area it's less than half the height of the XBOX.

and another shot during the assembly...

Fitting it all in was the thing that took the longest. It took over a week to find a power supply that would fit at all...

Agh, and it's got Ethernet too. Doesnt matter how fast, the cool factor is right up there.

Yes, that's one helluva piece of work.

Besides, if you wanted speed you'd go and blow 3000 dollars on an Alienware, right?

...right? :lol

I don't think someone who did a VIA C3 project is dumb enough to spend any money on a crap company like Alienware.

Mere-mortals like me are too damn lazy to actually put a computer together...

Hence why Falcon Northwest, Alienware, and Voodoo make so much money...Besides, do you know anybody else that'll glaze a giant Everquest overlay onto your tower for a mere (ya, right...) 500$?

:lol
