Although Apocalypse might be cheaper to do :) I liked Appocalypse better but that is just my opinion.

X2 Production Designer Guy Dyas took some time to talk exclusively to CountingDown about some of the visual concepts that were cut from X2 but could still likely appear in X3 - here's a taste...:
Beast: Beast was so close to making it into X2 that I'm almost certain that he'll appear in the next film...The challenge with Beast is that most of the time in the comics he's blue and has a very similar hairstyle to Wolverine's. This meant that we needed to set him apart by accentuating his most Beast like characteristics. We tried to do this by giving him more of a blue-grey tint, covering him with a layer of fine hair and by making him extremely muscular.
The Danger Room: The room's overall shape was oval, but the control room from which Xavier can monitor the progress of each session was going to be mobile. So basically the fight was going to be very dynamic because the Danger Room's weapons were going to be dynamic and our point of view from the control room was going to be dynamic...We built half of the enormous set on stage, however due to time constraints the overall sequence needed to be cut from the final script. It was particularly sad for me because so much development, design and even construction effort went into the set, but ultimately I think that it is better to save it for a future film so as to be able to feature it fully. With a scene taking place in a space like the Danger Room you just don't want to have to compromise and I think that it will be a big part of the next film.
The Sentinels: The Sentinels are something that Bryan and I were already designing even before the start of pre-production on X2. We wanted to have a specific Sentinel design in mind so as to better help Bryan and the writers incorporate them into the story. For inspiration I mostly looked at Alex Ross' designs of the Sentinels because they are simultaneously beautiful, industrial and eerie. I then made a visual chart of every robot ever portrayed on film so as to influence myself to come up with a brand new design, in the hopes of creating something truly original. Without sounding pretentious I just wanted to design something never seen before on film for the Sentinels! Currently my sketches are locked away and are waiting to hopefully be used in a future film...
From counting down. Now, the next link is similar, but includes spoilers, so I shall just link it:

But I'd just like to enbolden one part:
...giant cylindrical room where a big fight sequence was going to happen between Toad and Nightcrawler, a breathtaking mid-air battle.
I WANT THIS! :D
And the cool poster was there too:

In the belin circus, I was known as the incredible nightcrawler
Not the amazing! :)
In the next movie, I wanna see the sentinals, beast, and gambit.
I think they should film X3 and X4 together, like LOTR and the matrix sequals.
There's gotta be a 4..

the poster was wrong two times, then!
I just assumed he said berlin, since that's what the poster said and I just remembered he didn't use the word "amazing" :)
I saw it again last night as well.. and the sound started to mess up half way through the movie, so they gave us all free passes.. and when they turned the movie back on.. the sound was fine up untill the very end and it totally went out(I swear they did it on pourpose since they already gave us a "refund" :)) It was pretty funny because people were yelling out stuff like "FREEZE THE WATER KID!" and "ENGAGE!" at the part where Jean uses Prof. X to say her goodbyes a couple of people were chanting "Kiss him! kiss him!" to cyclops :)
Even though I missed out on hearing the lines, I had more fun than my first viewing ^_^

Well, I haven't seen it yet, but read all the spoilers. :lol
I think, and I'm saying this for the record, that the only problem with the first film was Sabretooth. He just growled and showed his teeth. I remember Sabertooth as a wickedly evil dude who actually acted quite intelligent, but was a nut. In the comics he's a perfect villian for Wolverine. Not just just because he has similar powers but because he messes with his head. In the Ultimate X-Men, where he shows Wolvie the documents about his past and makes him watch them burn... Awesome. And what about when he made Gambit choose between his brother and his girlfriend, and dropped them off a building at the same time. Which, BTW, Spider-Man the movie ripped off. :lol They should bring him back and make him like in the comics!
Also, they better have Beast and Gambit in the third film or heads will roll. wouldn't Beast be great for explaining what's happened to Jean? I'm not certain how they're doing it in the movie(again, I haven't seen it) but I'd think Beast could explain some stuff to the viewer in the third film without looking like he's talking to the viewer, since he's brilliant and could explain it to the other X-Men and in effect explain it to everyone else watching. Can't remember exactly what happened with Jean becoming the Phoenix, but I'm sure there'd be a good role for Beast there, explaining the science of it.
If they have Sentinels in the next movie, they better have Collosus(I'm certain I'm spelling it wrong). A fast ball special would be almost essencial, wouldn't it? The Sentinels are so darn tall Wolvie would need a way to ge up to their face to rip out their parts.
Oh, and why did they have Siryn when they could have had her father Banshee? I always liked Banshee more than her. I guess it'd be silly to A:have an older guy being a 'student' and B:having Banshee be a teen.
Oh, and I might be having a mental lapse, but wasn't that dude who could make illusions in the original brotherhood? He'd be cool to see.
Also, I have to address Cyclops. He's supposed to be an emotionless stiff. He and his brother were orphaned at a young age and Cyclops had to be a role model. Also, he's been an outcast all his life from being a mutant and not being able to hang out with kids, for fear of killing them all with his eyes. He's then been put into the role of leader of a group who everyone hates but who put their lives on the line for those same people. I'd say the guy has a right to build a wall around him and act like that.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Shi'Ar(sp?) Empire come to Earth when the Phoenix thing was going on, because they had been hunting the Phoenix? Also, didn't Cyclops' dad come too? That'd be cool to maybe introduce Havok and Cyclop's father. It'd flesh out Cyclops a bit more. Though it'd be hard to fit all of that in.
Could everyone please use spoiler tags when talking about current comic book stuff? I've only read the first three TPBs of the Ultimate X-Men and that Cyclops and Wolverine stuff was a big spoiler for me. Though I read all the spoilers to learn about the movie, other people might not and also might not want to know what happens in the comics. :)

Sage Because a scream sounds girly, hence works better. And besides, if Singer wanted Banshee in, he could be old, and have his kid.

One thing About Beast this was explained in the novel, don't think it got filmed. But when Xavier was hurting all the mutants they showed Mcoy in the book he was working on something and when Xavier got too close to him the experment blew up and he became the Beast, I thought it was a cool way for it to happen, still not sure if he will be in X3 though. Also the novel had a different ending Jean lived and she was blind, shows they obviously had a script change at some point.

Seeing the X1.5 DVD, it's funny the way how not one cast member had ever read the comics, but a few watched the cartoon :)

That way it keep Singer with a blank slate and he can shape the characters himself without all sorts of interjections from the actors.
ReaperFett
May 11th, 2003, 01:01:55 PM
I dont think it was deliberate :)
What's cool though, is at least Marsden and Panquin do appear to read the comics now, like Garner does now with Elektra. Shows the power :)
And Marsden called Ray Park Darth Maul :)
The documentaries are great. Especially watching how the X-Men couldnt hope over the edge of Liberty Island :D
Back to X2, I now think the score wasnt great having heard it. The opening music was fine, but the rest just felt uninspiring. It did it's job, but nothing more, wheras I think the X-Men music helped the film.

Well they didn't have a big composer do it which is probably why, the first film had Kamen, not sure why they didn't bring him back.
ReaperFett
May 11th, 2003, 11:50:25 PM
Because Singer tries to always use Ottman. Fine, but the other score was still better :)

Reaperfett, I suppose you're right. However, in previews for the movie they have Wolverine running down the hall yelling at the soldiers before slashing them. Couldn't Banshee yell and not sound girly? Though I suppose the scene probably called for a girly scream.

A number of teeny tiny little baby things that are bugging me...
IIRC, the "X-Jet" was called the Blackbird in the comics and cartoon, yes? So why not just call it the Blackbird in the movie!? "X-Jet" is so...ugh...cheesy.
Also, when Stryker introduced his son to Xavier, he called him "Mutant 143". The thing that struck me about this is that 143 is a way my mother signs her emails...it stands for the number of letters in each word of a three word sentence: "I love you."
Jedi Master Carr
May 12th, 2003, 02:15:03 PM
Well I don't recall them calling the Jet anything, in the novelization they called it the Blackbird, but I don't think they gave it a name in the movie as far as I remeber. About the 143 thing that could be something there. But it could just be coincidence. I would find it odd that Striker would say about his son when he was going to kill him, unless he was using it as a tribute to what his son could have been

I saw it again today Loved it even more :) A few things I saw the Shaw thing, couldn't make him out but it is probably more of an easter egg. I saw the Outland Project and right next to it was an icon saying Franklin Richards I wondered what he had in mind for him? Franklin maybe the most powerful mutant but I don't think he would have done well going against the F4 :) Also about Jean I think it was revealed somewhere that she is becoming the Phoenix because of what Magneto did back on Liberty Island. So I feel Magneto will find out about Phoenix and will find her and use her for his own twisted agenda. Anybody agree ?

Correct... the Blackbird is the nickname of the SR-71 spyplane. That plane still holds a lot of flight records.

If memory serves, Jean didn't develope her telepathy later on in life... and wasn't it triggered by something really bizaar? So maybe they are going to use the Liberty Island incident to explain the Pheonix transformation... cause in the cartoon series at least it was some alien race or something that caused it.
Jedi Master Carr
May 14th, 2003, 06:00:36 PM
Yeah they went to space to help the Shiar I think it devloped when fighting the Shiar Surpreme Commander can't recal his name, he was trying to get some crystal that would make him rule everything. They were probably best not going that route it would be too hard to explain.

May 14th, 2003, 06:07:02 PM
It is Liberty Island. If you watch, she pulls a face when the device is working. Think it is on the X1.5 audio commentary where Singer says that was the plan.

Also was Jason suppose to be Mastermind? I read this on the ShSh forums and didn't know that to be true.
ReaperFett
May 14th, 2003, 06:09:21 PM
There is some debate on that. Some say yes, some no, some say he is a merger of characters. I say Mastermind, due to similar powers and both named Jason. Also, he was in the Dark Phoenix saga :D

one thing that just occured to me, when Rogue kisses Iceman upstairs at his house and steals some of his power technically, then later she steals Piro's power, wouldn't one power cancel out the other?

hmm, comics say this over and over, she keeps it sixty times longer then the amount of time Rogue was in physical contact with that person.

Well I think it depends on how long she holds on to the person, the longer she holds on to someone the longer she has the power, that is why she could fly in the comics she held on to Ms Marvel so long it gave her, her powers forever (well about forever, is it true that she has lost those powers again?)
