My intention in making paintings with my menstrual blood is to create beautiful images about menstruation. This means of expression benefits my relationship to my menstrual cycle. I don't paint with my menstrual blood to get attention or to be a shock artist; I paint with my menstrual blood as a way of befriending my periods while breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation and elevating something that has been disrespected. Evidence of the taboo can be read in the jokes made about me as the creator of the works.

To those who ask, "why not use paint?" the use of paint is not an option. These are works about cyclical blood that happen to be seen as art, not works of art that happen to be made with menstrual blood. I have been painting in this way since September 2000, continually experimenting with the addition of acrylic medias and varnishes to preserve and seal the blood. I also enjoy photography, calligraphy, and graphic design.

If she actually sells one of those things, I will be incredibly angry. I mean, I had to BUY my supplies, I couldn't just MAKE them!

I think she's both seriously messed up, and incredibly cheap, too.

I don't think she's messed up. The greatest artists and/or artistic revolutionaries had their work either dissaproved of or completely rejected by society so perhaps we're being arrogant and blind. Perhaps not but regardless, I can't like this particular art as it turns my stomach.

Slowly

AmazonBabe
May 2nd, 2003, 12:57:01 PM
But... but... a pocket knife would have a helluva time cutting through bone unless it had a serated (sp?) edge. :x

Oh man, the thought reminds me of a game called "The Dig" by LucasArts where at one point one of the characters has to have his lower arm amputated after getting trapped in a crevice where a quake closes the crevice shut. They amputate it using a shark-like jaw bone. :x

Charley
May 2nd, 2003, 12:57:47 PM
Or you could cut at the elbow joint, and not worry about that.

Um, no... you never took me hunting when I was out there.

Psshh... like we woulda caught anything. :lol

And it's not so much the blood and gore that makes me shudder. I've disected plenty of things before and I've always found that to be quite fascinating. Animal amputation/disection/"cleaning" doesn't bother me.

It's just the thought of it being done to a human that's a bit unnerving.

1. Remove belt

2. Apply belt to arm, above elbow, as tightly as you can.

3. If you have a flask of booze, DRINK IT ALL NOW

4. Bite down on end of belt, near the arm, and pull back with your teeth as hard as you can.

5. Begin cutting at the elbow joint, and around the softer visceral mass, until the last thing you sever are the binding ligaments. in the center.

6. Keep tourniquet on, and get to civilization as fast as possible

7. ....

8. Profit

AmazonBabe
May 2nd, 2003, 01:47:44 PM

selling the arm? o_O

Gurney Devries
May 2nd, 2003, 09:12:53 PM
Vetere said two other rescuers who returned to the canyon in hopes of retrieving the limb discovered that the boulder weighed 1,000 pounds, not the 200 that they first believed. They were unable to retrieve the arm.
