First defending Stanley Cup Champion since, what, 1954, to go down in the first round of the playoffs the following year?

ESPN had a poll going earlier about which event in Michigan sports was the worst of the past year... Michigan losing to eventual National Champion Ohio State (college football), Michigan having to forfeit almost everything from the Fab Five years (college basketball), Marty Mornhenweig winning the OT toss then giving the football to the Bears (NFL), the Red Wings getting pummeled by the Mighty Ducks in the first round (NHL), or the Tigers crappy start to the season (MLB).

All in all... it's been a pretty bad year for the state of Michigan sports-wise... :lol

Figrin...first defending champ to get SWEPT in the first round the following year. Defending champs sometimes get beaten 1st Round...but swept...geez. ;)

The Avalanche might go out 1st round too. Three game sevens this early...I never remember there being THAT many.
