I haven't fully made up my mind (and thankfully, I have a year to prepare for it, so no rush), but when I graduate, what should my derogatory title end up as?

You're a grunt, through and through.

Definitely a grunt.
And now, for some odd reason, I'm seeing those lil green Orcs from WC2 running around... also called Grunts. :p

Anything that squirts ink and has 8 arms with a freakish alien type body is great. Derogatory or not, squids rock. :cool

I threw air force and navy in there out of the barest of courtesies. I shall never serve in those services, no offense to those who do. I'd rather keep my boots on the ground, thx. :)

This is true. I wish he did that. The second half of it is dreadfully lame.
I would love to be R. Lee Ermey. I mean...the raw, unadulturated fear that I could instill in 95% of human beings...that would be so intoxicating. Just to wear the power of mortal fear, the way someone wears cheap cologne.

Jar-head it is. I went down to the local office, and gave the man my particulars. I'll go into reserve duty in June '04.
Sooo....I've got 14 months to get ready for the Corps! Kinda pumped, kinda scared. I've got to kick my own <smallfont color={hovercolor}>-Censored-</smallfont>, and bust myself back into shape. I'd rather do it myself than have a DI do it for me.

You made a good choice. :)
I have a cousin who is a jar-head, though far from the stereotype. He's a tech-geek, to be sure. He specializes in communcations systems, and is over in Iraq as we speak. He's a career guy, though, not in the reserves. He's told me some pretty interesting stories over the years...

Depending on how crappy the financial job scene is, I may decide to go active duty for a while when I graduate...no idea yet.

A kid I went to high school with recently graduated from the Marine Corps boot camp. His little brother says he's so rough about everything. EVERYTHING MUST BE DONE NOW! HOP TO! and all that Jazz. I don;t know a thing about the military.

Yeah, I know a lot of people in the Corps. It changes your whole paradigm, and lights a fire under you. I've seen total wastoid jerk-offs get shipped out to Parris Island and come back like completely different people. I'm sure I'll get reborn hard. The only thing that will be weird is that I'll be going through the Corps officer candidacy program, due to my college degree. They will more than likely commission me at Second Lieutenant...this is about normal for the OCP participants. At the very least, I'll get a commission as a warrant officer, and still have rank over enlisted men and NCOs (non-commissioned officers). This includes privates, corporals, sergeants, and all categories between.

...So glad you like him! :) I cleaned up some edges for you:
I saw the same motivation in some of my classmates as well, which was totally strange because they were, as you said, mostly jerk-offs and now they are so different. Really gives you a new perspective, and you get all these skills, you learn more in your time in than most people learn all of their life.

Charley - best of luck. I know/have known a lot of Marines, and the one thing that is for sure is that your ego will inflate by 1000%.
