Get ready for the undisputed champion: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/030407/140/dx5mg.html

Casablanca is being remade. Starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. I really don't have anything further to add.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is some kind of a gag...

It doesn't matter... even conceiving of such an idea is enough to make me cringe...

Like I said Fett, it doesn't matter... the very idea of remaking Casablanca, much less with Lopez and Affleck... is just revolting.

My skins crawls just thinking about it... *shudder*

I saw nothing on the page which indicated that it was reprinted from anywhere. :| It just said "Sky News". Which, by glancing over their site (http://www.sky.com/skynews/home), seem like a legit enough news source (they're no WWN, that's for sure).

Holeeeee crap!
Next thing you know they'll be starting rumors on an Ace Ventura remake. They're that badly pressed for ideas.

Sky News is the British equivalent of Fox News

I am sure its garbage, I doubt their is any truth to it probably somebodys idea of a joke. Actually they have already made a remake of Casablanca a TV show back in the 70s staring David Soul it was a huge flop. There have been rumors for years about doing a sequel based on the book Time After Time (the book takes place after the film) with Harrison Ford as Rick but they have been false so far.

I love Harrison Ford. :yum

Redoing Casablanca? :x Ben and Jennifer aren't even going to get married, I see break up in their future. They're so badly suited for each other. I'd be much better for him than that....prima donna! :cry

The idea of those 2 tampering with a classic like Casablanca makes me sick to my stomach :x . I hope this is just a weird rumor and nothing more...if it really happens, they'll both be laughed off the screen, no doubt about that. :mad

And yeah, the rush to do remakes in Hollywood is just ridiculous. I mean, check out these other remakes in the pipeline...Topper, with Steve Martin; Harvey, perhaps with John Travolta; and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, with Jim Carrey. Ye gods, three utterly perfect movies in their original incarnations, why would anyone want to mess with them? Stop it already! :verymad

A side note...I felt VERY old yesterday. There's a girl at my office who's a big Ben Affleck fan, so I told her this story. You know what her first response was?

"'Casablanca'? Which movie is that?"

:\

Okay, I'm sorry, but to remake a Bogart movie is just a bad idea all around. Unless you can get Harrison Ford to play Bogie's part, like what heppened in Sabrina, which was a good remake, I thought.

But, to re-do Casablanca is just horrendously wrong. It is perfect the way it is, and could not possibly ever be made better.

It would never have the impact today that it had in 1942. When "Casablanca" came out, Casablanca had actually just been invaded that year as the Nazis lost patience with the Vichy French.

I don't know what Casablanca is doing now, but it's not being invaded by Nazis, so meh.

Not sure what Casblanca is like now. I think its crap really. As far as the other remakes, something like Topper doesn't bother me, they made several sequels to that film anyway so it is not a big deal. I don't like the idea of Harvey especially the way Travolta's career has gone lately. Walter Minty well with Jim Carrey in the lead that is one of the few that will probably really work.

Topper could be funny to see a new version of. The origininal was cornball enough that it can stand it. Harvey, well, you'd be a little hard-pressed to tell me that someone could be better than Jimmy Stewart for that role. And I can't remember Walter Minty, so that's safe by me. Just as long as they don't bring back Ma and Pa Kettle.

Now all of you know the pain I experienced when I saw the trailer for "Something about Charley" with Matt Damon... crappy remake of the Cary Grant, Audry Hepburn flick Charade.

ick!

Apr 10th, 2003, 03:14:07 PM
They're re-making Charade?! No! That is wrong!!! It can't be done, nobody is as good as Grant, and I'm sorry, but Hepburn can not be topped in that part! It must not be re-made!

Jedi Master Carr
Apr 10th, 2003, 03:54:17 PM
It didn't star Matt Damon, I wish it stared Mark Walburg in the Cary Grant role. Can't remember who played the girl but she didn't work.

The Truth About Charlie, the remake of Charades, has already been made, was already in theatres, and is hitting DVD Tuesday or at least someday really soon.

The DVD actually has Charades on it. What a horrible idea! Now even the people who may have liked it will be able to compare and contrast it to the original.

I haven't seen either.

Oh yeah, that's the name of that thing. I got Wahlburg & Damon mixed up because Damon was re-doing the Bourne Identity...
they are all eeeeviiil...

Charade is awesome. The whole thing centers around whether or not Cary Grants character is telling Audrey Hepburn the truth... it's one of those movies that if anyone ever let it slip what the ending was would really destroy the tension. And it has *great* suspense in it. I highly recommend seeing it before the Jonathan Demme knock off.

You best not be dissing The Bourne Identity there :)

Jedi Master Carr
Apr 10th, 2003, 07:36:29 PM
I know I wouldn't count the Bourne Identity as a remake the original was just some TV movie, this movie was a lot better than that and was similar to the book.

I could be letting my personal feelings for the Matt man influencing my comments there. :)
