A Dutch medical centre has to pay a 9 year old severly handicapped girl compensation money for her suffering because she is born. Besides that the hospital has to pay for all the costs for her care and education. They also have to pay the mother because she couldn't make use of her choice for abortion. Despite the parents told there were chromosome abnormities in their family, the hospital didn't do a prenatal examination. If they had, the mother would have done an abortion. The child was born severly handicapped: she's mentally deficient, has a lot of pain, hardly hears and sees, and she has a hart condition on which she's operated several times.

This is the first wrongful-life claim in The Netherlands.
