From IMDB:

Superstar Ben Affleck is to reprise his role as CIA agent Jack Ryan in another screen outing. Affleck, who first played Ryan in the box office smash The Sum Of All Fears, is in negotiations with studio giant Paramount to star in Red Rabbit. In Red Rabbit the audience will get the opportunity to go back to the early days of Ryan's career when he debriefs a high-level defector and uncovers a plot to assassinate the Pope, which is designed to destabilize the Western world. Ryan was originally played by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt For The Red October and then by Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger.

Didnt Ford do three if them?

Anyway, I see this as great news. I liked the way they went back to a younger Ryan in SOAF, and Affleck nailed it.

Baldwin did Red October, Ford did Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.

Yeah, but I thought Ford had done three. Must be something else I forgot :)

There have only been 4 Clancy movies so far. Ford has only appeared in 2 of them.

Does anyone else have problems with the huge age gaps with the various Jack Ryans?

The age of the character has been changed from the original source material more than once for the 4 films that have been made. Chronologically, Patriot Games is actually supposed to take place before The Hunt for Red October, and Red Rabbit before Patriot Games. But, age of the character was changed, and a few other changes were made to fit the character to the actor. The Sum of All Fears is supposed to take place well after Clear and Present Danger, but again... they've basically ignored the timeline. Apparently, Clancy doesn't mind the changes... I just wonder how they'll pull of Debt of Honor, Executive Orders and The Bear and The Dragon if those are put to film... those stories would make no sense with a younger Jack Ryan.

Easy, they wont :)

I heard Clancey's next would be a book modelled on the Affleck era.

I wouldn't mind seeing Without Remorse as a film.

What happens in it?

The world is in danger and Ryan stifles the bad guys at the last minute. :P

Without Remorse is a Mr. Clark book...about the CIA agent.

Played by Lieb Schriber-something in SoaF....Loved him in that role. :D

Wasn't that a TV miniseries? I know it didn't have Ryan in it. Also Clark was played by Defoe in Clear and Present Danger.

I wasn't counting that one because it's a tv movie

I feel Defoe was better maybe because he was in Clear and Present Danger more.

Dafoe = MUCH better Clark.

And if they ever make Rainbow Six into a movie, I will be all :D

Dafoe was a better John Clark...

Rainbox Six would be very cool as well.

;) I've not seen any other Clark, hence my uninformed bias. *makes mental note to watch Clear and Present Danger*
