Captain Coruscant
Mar 23rd, 2003, 07:35:53 AM
Captain Coruscant is that you
Flying down the highway
In your red white and blue

You remind me of the days
In that clone war
When we weren’t quite sure
What we were fighting for

I see you again and it makes me think
About just who I am
Is there someone in charge
Who can lead the way tonight
Who knows the plan

Where there’s love
There is grace
There’s still hope left in this place
And the smile on your face
Gives me faith in the human race

Captain Coruscant what do you see
Millions of your brothers say they’ll fight to be free
Who could have known you would be the chosen one
To kick start our dreams
The cycle of life goes around and round again
Tell me what does it mean
Can it be true

Where there’s love
There is grace
And there’s hope left in this place
And the smile on your face
Gives me faith in the human

If we could trade all of our tomorrows
For the best of our yesterdays
Erase all the pain and the sorrow
Would there have to be a high price to pay
Hey Hey

We run for our lives
And we’re searching for shelter now
From the coming storm
Are you the man who can lead us once again
So come on, suit up, let’s go

Where there’s love
There is grace
And there’s hope left in this place
And the smile on your face
There’s not a damn thing we can’t face

Where there’s love
There is grace
And there’s hope left in this place
And the smile on your face
Gives me faith in the human
Faith in the human race
Yeah, I got faith

Downtown Coruscant, on a cold rainy night…

Two figures steep under the shelter of a doorway. Hidden from the onslaught of the coming storm, one fumbles with a key as he unlocks the door to the apartment building. Inside there’s barely any light, but the two walk side by side through the shadows easily, muttering conversation to one another as they go. The taller of the two, Rick Wright, runs one hand back through his light crop her, freeing it of moisture acquired on the walk home from the diner.

In his free hand he held a brown paper bag, marked with the logo of the biggest fast food chain on Coruscant. For him and his flat mate, it was the best they could afford. Since Rick left the Alliance he had been down on cash and living certainly wasn’t easy. That was why they were shacked up in this hell hole.

Wright unlocked the door to their apartment. All of the other rooms were silent; the inhabitants would have been asleep long ago as it was 4 o’clock in the morning when the two men sat down to their burrito breakfast in silence.

Reaching for a remote control on the table in front of him, Rick Wright flicked on the news and began watching intently as he took his first bite of his meal.

Robin Dunmir was your average bloke only he was shorter than most men standing at about 5'11 weilding broad shoulders and a athletic torso. The shady chracter had a bent nose like it had been broken 2 or 3 times in his life, his lips were thin and dry while his eyes were a milky blue and looked watery. This gentleman was Ricks flat mate and a good one at that.

After a long while of eating his bacon and egg roll. Robin gave a hearty laugh as he always did at unexpected times and looked over to Rick. "I take it you tied the guys up tightly Rick?" Robin asked in a beefy voice which was clearly faked to make himself more butch.

The news continued...

" Today a family of 2 children and a mother were walking across the Pelluna Catwalk in down town Coruscant today talking of what they were to have for supper when 3 or more armed thugs attacked the woman and tried to steal her purse AND her daughter at the same time. Reports are sketchy but it was said two men in costume turned up and saved the day. Here is Dianna with the latest...Dianna!"

'Thank you Drew, yes when Coruscant Watch appeared at the scene of the crime all 4 thugs had been knocked out and tied up to the rails of the Catwalk, all unarmed and all unconscious. The woman who they had tried to rob was stunned as a capped man dressed in white red and blue had stormed the catwalk along with his apparent sidekick who was dressed in head to foot in a green and white skin tight suit. The man in green flew about the place performing near impossible aerial martial arts moves while the man in red white and blue smashed many of the thugs to the ground in a single hit.'

" Dianna is there any indication on who these two crime fighting people are?..."

' Well we spoke to many of the Coruscant Watch members and not one had a clue who could disable members of the Skull Cult a very known crime gang in downtown Coruscant so easily...they and we alike just don't know who these two heroes are...'

' Thank you Dianna...and no over to other news......'

Robin laughed and looked over to Rick "And they say we are Heroes...hehe"...

Rick watched with pride swelling in his chest. Every time they successfully apprehended someone in the course of a crime, or did a good deed, it filled him with a sense of happiness. Surely, by doing what they did, they were giving the people of Coruscant a sense of hope. When Jedi could not be found and the Watch was too slow to get to the scene, Captain Coruscant the The Chiru would roll up in the Justice Mobile and save the day.

“Good work with the bonding, Robin. I have a feeling we won’t be hearing from those four for a long time,” Rick mumbled through another bite. He was ravenous, and it was evident from the speed at which he was eating – all of the fighting earlier on in the day had left him tired and hungry.

“I’m afraid we won’t be so lucky as to have seen the last of the Skull Cult, however.” he added as an after thought, his voice growing quieter.

His eyes turned to the side, glancing at the floor. There was a hold all and a backpack lying on the carpet. Out of the pocket of the backpack hung a green mask, whilst the distinct shape of a circular shield was present in the larger bag.

“Well,” Rick finished the last bite of what he was eating and washed it down with the last of his cold milk before standing up from the table.

“I’m gonna hit the sack, Robin. Wake me up if anything shows up on the news.”

And with this said, he disappeared off into his bedroom, picking up a bottle of bactine as he went, to tend to the wounds he had been dealt today.

The hours seemed to slowly slip away after Rick went to bed. Coruscant News 24 was turned down quietly so that Rick could get some shut eye and Robin rested his eyes. Robins thoughts were on there latest fight with the Skull Cult and how he had been one of the heroes to save a woman earnings and prevent her daughters kidnapping. It was a fruitful thought and so he felt very happy while he rested.

Just then he sensed something run though his head. A great vibration hit his senses and his eyes snapped open. The reporter on the TV was almost yelling something as if trying to tell the viewer in alarm what was going on. Robin picked up the controller and turned it up to a quiet but hearable volume. The words "Breaking News" scrolled scross the bottom of the screen.

' Reports are just in. The 1st Coruscant Bank on the Bulivard Walk has just been stormed by members of the Skull Cult. Reporters and Coruscant Watch alike believed its in retaliation for the arrest of the 5 Cult members earlier that day. They are very well armed and have 40 or so hostages including security guards, staff, women and children. The Cult have barricaded the doors while several police have closed of the road. Unfortunately the police fear that these unpredictable Skull members might kill the hostages without any reason so they dare not enter the building...they wait for there demands instead...'

The camera pans the street to view the bank from police lines before coming to hault on a odd looking police officer. ' Dianna lets have an interview with this man here...'

Robin quickly jumped off the couch and headed strait for Ricks room it was time to wake the big guy up...it was time to go to work...

Within minutes Rick was on his feet. The two were so practiced in what came next that they did it without even a thought.

Dipping his hand into his bag, Rick pulled out a blue shirt emblazoned with a red and white stripes and a white star. He tugged it over his head and slipped on crimson gauntlets that stretched up to his elbows. Over his head he pulled a mask, baring a ‘C’ for Coruscant and two minute feathery wings – which Rick said represented the free will and spirit of the citizens of the universe.

Then came his trousers and finally his boots. Once he was dressed fully he took up his shield. It was a little worn around the edges, but still always did its job of protecting Rick.

“Alright Chiru,” he called in a commanding tone as Robin appeared into the room, suited up.

With a mutual nod to signify that they were ready, the two jogged out through the back door of the flat. Robin had already activated the garage door and signaled for the car inside to pull out. The speeder was a simple one, with no license plates – its only distinguishing mark a white star painted upon the bonet. The two costumed men hopped inside with Chiru at the wheel, as they sped off towards the 1st Coruscant Bank.

“Step on it!”

The Chiru
Mar 23rd, 2003, 11:23:37 AM
The speeder flew from the garage at a incredible speed and swung into the street narrowly missing a cargo freighter who blew his horn loudly. The speeder was one of those older models which was a bit battered and bruised but could handle top speeds and tight cornering. The Speeder slapped left into another street sliding slightly out of control and then centered back into a strait position before shooting off again.

This happed a few times as they turned corners and avoided on coming speeders or taxis. Some blew horns, some shouted as they passed some even shook fists and shouted swear words. "You strange looking bastards" seemed to be the favored of the expletives. The two heroes ignored the shouting of the very people they intended to help and continued on there way. Daylight had come and so there identity was at stake if they were caught.

Finally the two made it to the crime scene a few on lookers were stunned as the two exited the speeder and made there way towards the police, some laughed some children smiled but most adults took them seriously since the previous Police report about them. A policeman turned to view them, a Corporal it seemed his badge read "Nobei Knobs".

Captain Coruscant leapt out of the speeder as the Corporal of the City Watch waved over to him. Others bearing the Watch uniform looked on with mixed opinions of laughter and confusion as the man in red, white and blue was followed by another lankier and far less patriotic looking figure. The two well-tonned figures stopped, with the Captain placing his hands on his hips as he looked down at Nobei Knobs.

“Ahr-um-eh… Captain Coruscant,” the weasily voice hazarded.

Rick nodded smartly, “What seems to be the problem here? Myself and Chiru heard there was trouble at the bank.”

As he spoke his eyes remained always on the bank in the distance. He could see very little movement inside, but did note the twitching of blinds as one of the men inside peeked out into the street, undoubtedly spotting the two newly arrived heroes.

“They’ve taken the bank hostage, obviously,” Knobs whined as he pointed, panicky, off towards the monumental building.

“We’ll have the situation sorted in no time at all.”

He saluted before turning to Chiru. They needed a plan.

Chiru looked blankly back at the Captain, lucky enough his mask covered his lost expression. The Chiru raised his eyebrow slightly and them lowred his head in deep thought. The roof must have had 3 exits. The front which was heavily gaurded and barracaded, the back which was most likely to same and then you had the roof construct. "I think there is a way in through the roof Captain though i cant really assume that it may have been blocked when the last robbery took place..." The green figure said.

' Who in the hell are you two?!' Shouted a voice behind The Chiru. The man shouting looked to be a very serior officer of the law who hated interference from outsiders. ' Knobs who are these two freaks and why are they involved in our road block?! ' The man shouted right into The Chirus ear perposly.

The shout from the senior Watchmen was the cue for the two to make their get away.

Taking his counterparts advice, he darted for the left side of the building. There was a steel ladder up the side wall, just at the corner where it turned into being the southern wall. Rick let Robin hop up onto the ladder first – he would scale it far quicker than Rick could.

The two reached the top thankfully without being noticed by any of the men inside. There attention was drawn away by the rowing police men – obviously the thugs found it entertaining to watch the law enforcers quarrel.

With Robin on the rooftop, Rick followed and on getting onto solid ground saw that the Chiru had found a skylight entrance and was already trying to pull it out of its place. Adding his own strength to the task, the plate was quickly freed – giving the two a direct entrance into the top floor of the building.

The Chiru
Mar 23rd, 2003, 02:19:02 PM
The Chiru waited for a few moments before jumping down. A patrolling gaurd with a heavy repeater stood below the skylight smoking a cigrette. Chiru waited till the man was more intereted with his cigrette before dropping down, landing on his shoulders and wrapping his legs aroud the mans neck and then flipping over. The man landed heavily on his head and was kncoked out without half a sound.

" Come on down Cap'in"

Rick followed and landed in a suitably dramatic crouch, quickly looking up and down the hallway. There was no one else in sight, but from Chiru’s attentive staring he could tell that someone was near. One of the most useful powers that the Chiru possessed was being able to sense vibrations. This wasn’t limited to large things like explosions or hyper drives, but stretched to being able to feel the minute displacement of air as someone breathed, or the gentle rumble in the ground as footsteps approached.

Making off down the right corridor, the two burst around into a duo of guards. One opened fire, and found his shots thudded straight back off of Captain Coruscant’s shield. His gun was swiftly torn from his hand by the blurred hand of the Chiru as the green-suited acrobat flipped past the first attacker, disabling the second with a thud to the face from his comrades gun.

The shield snapped back onto Coruscant’s arm as they darted for the stairs that would eventually take them down to the lower floors of the building.

No turning back now, Bryin Takar thought to himself as he jogged through the back alleyways of Coruscant. The HoloNet didn't usually lie, and apparently something was going on down at the 1st Coruscant Bank. Two unidentified crusaders (the news called them soldiers) like himself were already there. He'd seen them in the news before and even read the typical tabloid exploitation. He wanted to meet them, this time.

Come on, shake off that anxiety. This is your third time. . .out He didn't know what to call it really, but he'd been doing what he could for the last week to develop an identity. He wanted to make himself a presence in this sector of Coruscant. He had been kicked around too much in his life just because he was different. Because he had to wear special glasses. Because he was a 'freak.'

No longer.

No longer would he allow himself to be pushed around by the 'stronger' of society. No longer would he allow others to be intimidated by those who would seek to control of their lives--often by fear and crime. He dedicated himself to fighting those who should attack the peaceful. He called it justice. He wondered if those who had arrived before him believed in the colors of the flags of freedom--the New Republic and the Senate and the brotherhood of peace among beings. He definitely did. And now, it was time.

Here we go, he thought as he approached the bank. He noticed that most all entrances were blocked off by law enforcement personnel. Their attention was diverted by some sort of squabble, and Bryin's sharp eyes caught the foot of someone climbing up a ladder on the side of the building. He sprinted to it, grabbing hold and pulling himself up it strongly. He wasn't supremely agile, but he could definitely hold his own.

Coming to the top, he noticed that the others had dropped down a skylight into the building. From it, he watched the two easily disassemble a pair of guards, leaving them both unconscious on the floor. With some luck and skill, he was be able to get down to the floor safely and landed with relative ease.

As the duo rounded the corner into the stairwell, Bryin saw that there was an opposite one as well. Perhaps it would do them good to split up. As it was, the pair was not necessarily aware of his presence. Hopefully, he would be able to drop down and make his presence known soon. As he waited, the others disappeared from view.

With some luck and skill, he was be able to get down to the floor safely and landed with relative ease. He crossed the room, making his way into the opposite stairwell. The two stairways would open up in the same room at the bottom. Making his way quietly down to the bottom, he peered out of the room. Several guards stood inside--two of which had thier blasters trained upon the stairwell the others would exit from. He crouched, steadying his body. Reaching up to his goggles, he adjusted the number of visors to filter the energy attack that would soon be unleashed. Ever since ever, he had developed the stranged talent of firing a concentrated energy blast from his eyes. He couldn't explain it, but scientists had helped him by supplying him with a certain type of dura-plastice that served to contain the blast. He could still push a beam through a weak screen of the plastic, but with a thick screen, it was contained. His goggles--specially designed by his father--allowed him to regulate the intensity of the beam. This way, he was able to create different blasts--anything from a stunning, non-lethal blast to a destructive, concentrated energy beam.

His father had always said the latter was as powerful as a turbo-laser.

With stun in mind, he trained his goggles just as the two were coming to the exit. He adjusted the filters as a flash of red energy began to build on the surface of his lens.

"Friends! Steady yourselves!" He shouted, hoping they would hear him. The guards surely did, and as they turned, Bryin unleashed two swift blasts into their chests. One man fell backwards and slid across the floor, his body coming to rest in a heap. The other nearly flipped over as his momentum carried him into the wall. He slumped into a sitting position, unconscious.

I hope I made a good first impression, he chuckled to himself. Bryin turned his attention towards guards on the opposite side of the room.

Snapping up a discarded metal plate from the group. Clearly workman had been there. The Chiru flipped the plate over and placed it on the iron banister before leaping upon it with his weight pushed forward. The Chiru used the plate as a skateboard type of device as he slid quickly down the banister, around the bend and quickly down into the upper-lobby. The plate flew out from under his feet and flew out towards a advancing gaurd who was quickly approaching Turbo Lazer.

The plate intercepted the gaurd and smashed him cleanly in the side of the head incapacitating him right away. The Chiru landed on the ground in a crouch and looked up towards the Turbo-Lazer.

He have a dramatic nod in recognition and waited for the Captain.

As the metal grind of the Chiru descending the stairs faded away, Ricks boots thundered down into the lobby. His eyes were drawn in an instant to the man who he assumed had been the source of the laser shoots he had heard moments ago. With a quick salute he smiled broadly at the man and proclaimed in a patriotic tone:

“Good to have you with us, soldier.”

Turning his head to the Chiru, “Alright Chiru, the floor below this is where the hold up is.”

He brought his hands to rest on his hips and looked up into the air, as though formulating some plan in his mind.

“Laser eyes, how about you give us a nice quick route down there? I’m sure the Skull Cult won’t be expecting us to simple drop in on them.”

Bryin smiled brightly as the trio worked together to eliminate the guards. Returning a nod and a sheepish smile back to The Chiru, he almost beamed as Coruscant welcomed him to the team. He looked himself over--he was wearing a pair of old blue-jean pants and a blue t-shirt. Over his toned frame he wore an old beat-up brown jacket. He compared his attire to the two before him and decided he would definitely need to work a new get-up out. Besides his goggles, he was pathetic.

Laser eyes. . .not bad, Bryin thought to himself. Bryin scanned the floor as Coruscant spoke, processing what he was asking. Right below them would be a group of thugs, and it would be important to plan the fall well.

"No problem, Captain." He adjusted his goggles to lessen the blockage by the screens, allowing for a little more energy from his optic blasts. He would cut out a square of the floor right beside their position so they could easily hop down. He figured that The Chiru and Coruscant would be ok on the way down, and he hoped he would to.

"Here's to an eyeful," he said letting a blast from his googles cut through the floor in a square motion right next to them. A perfect hatch just small enough for them to easily slide through. He let the others--more experienced than he--take the lead.

Captain Coruscant
Mar 25th, 2003, 02:29:30 PM
Through the new opening Rick Wright spied a worrying scene. Two rows of civilians were knelt on the floor as a team of what looked to be around fifteen men patrolled back and forth between them. The hostages were spread between cubicles, so that three were in each – all in all, five separate roofless rooms, with a couple of guards to each.

Captain Coruscant looked back up to Chiru.

“We’re going to need you here, Chiru. Some of that mojo of yours will slow those goons down long enough for me and laser boy here to free the innocents.”

As a former soldier and Captain in the Republic army, Coruscant was extremely confident in himself when it came to combat, and for some reason imagined that the goggling wearing figure standing by them now would handle himself fine.

“You going to be alright?” the Captain asked before looking back down into the hole – where the Chiru had already made his descent on high-intensity strength metal wiring. Wrapping a glove hand around the roping, he followed behind, sliding swiftly down into the fray before dropping behind a wall to hide until Chiru had paralysed the first of the guards.

The Chiru
Mar 26th, 2003, 04:31:23 PM
Before one of the gaurds could even retaliate The Chiru had flipped up into a hand stand position, wrapped his legs around the mans neck and pulled him down to the ground with a crash knocking him out cold. The gaurd standing next to him was also given a heavy blow because Chiru jumped up into the air and performed a full on round house kick which smashed that man cleanly in the jaw.

' Now thats what i call "Hero-Tastic" ' He commented as the Captain touched the ground. A few other gaurds had heard the commotion and started the investigate, Chiru just hoped Mr.Lazer had decended before the full onslaught began.

"I think I'll be fine, Captain," Bryin said, smiling. He couldn't explain it, but something inside him flared with pride and joy since had been working with Coruscant and Chiru. It seemed that he belonged here--doing this--and for the first time in his life, things were clear. That feeling, far more than Coruscant even knew, fullfilled him.

Just as the pair hit the floor, Bryin made his descent. He wasn't very agile or acrobatic--though he could take care of himself ok--and he felt somewhat akward clinging to the metallic wire as he slid down. As he clumsily made his way down, he glanced below. From the Captain's hiding position and The Chiru's quick work of a few baddies, he could hear that more were coming. Making his way down, he finally dropped off into a crouched position.

"Keep your eyes peeled, guys," Bryin said, adjusting his goggles back to stun. "Here they come!" A pretty good sized group of guards rounded the corner as Bryin let a few blasts escape his goggles. He knocked two of the guards down as The Chiru and Captain Coruscant sprang into action. He was loving this.

There was a noise like blaster fire, then a muffled scream. Then, a conspicuous *thud* on the softly carpeted floor of the bank. A sound like... like a body falling to the floor. Soft footfalls sounded like they were coming closer...

From her hiding spot behind a counter in the staff break room, two young women crouched in fear. They had heard the screams, the shouts of a bank heist some minutes... or was it hours ago? The men's voices were angry, and had shouted something about a cult or something, and thankfully, these two girls had the presence of mind to crouch down as best they could behind a tiled, coffee-stained counter.

One of the women, a young plump girl, turned and whispered in a panicked voice, "Do you think that's more of them? They wouldn't start killing hostages, would they?!"

"Shh..." The other one, a thin girl with her hair in pigtails replied. "They haven't come in here yet... let's not give them a reason to!"

So they waited there, barely breathing as the footsteps came closer and closer, rounding the corner and nearing their hiding spot.

A blur of red, white and blue struck through into the guards as Coruscant hurled his shield right into the mass. It cut through the air and knocked one man cleanly off of his feet before returning back to its wielder and onto his arm, defending him from the on-coming barrage of fire lacing out from the cult members. As Rick charged through the men, leaving the group to Chiru and laser eyes, he bound off into what looked like another holding area.

Two inept guards were talking and wondering what the fuss was about as they were knocked clean from their feet by a punch and a kick. Both fell, conveniently, unconscious.

A quick glance around and Rick could see nothing but was sure he had heard muffled talking. His leather boots squeaked as did his gauntlets, whilst tightening around his shield strap.

“Citizens,” he boomed in an authorities voice, “Show yourselves. We are here to free you, please, follow me out to the exit into the hands of the authorities.”

The thin girl peeked over the top of the counter, hoping that the booming voice was really that of a rescuer and not a plan to find more people hiding, like them. In the doorway, there stood a man in some sort of a blue, white, and red bodysuit, complete with a mask that obscured his face which, thankfully, had turned for the moment to look down the hallway.

She returned to her hiding spot and, turning to the other woman, whispered again, "He doesn't look like one of the bad guys... he's wearing some... uniform thing. I've never seen anything like it."

"Well then, that's settled!" The other girl was overjoyed, and immediately stood up to walk towards the door. "I've had enough of this hiding business. Come on!"

Rising from her hiding spot with as much dignity as she could muster, the smaller girl followed her more confident collegue towards the exit and the strangely-clothed man that stood before it.

The appearance of the two women was something to be thankful for – it at least meant that some of the civilian populous within the building were safe already. With a patriotic smile chiselled across his expression, Captain Coruscant looked down into faces of the advancing duo.

Behind him, in the large hall, the Chiru and their helper were dealing with the entire cult with lightning speed – however one man had slunk away from them. With his knee wounded he was unable to continue putting up a fight against the costumed idiots; however it seemed luck was favouring him and had now given him an open shot on the leader of the costumed trio from behind.

"Look out!" The girl yelled, pushing her co-worker back into the safety of the break room as the costumed man turned to see one of the cult members raising some sort of weapon towards them. Without thinking, she raised her hand and, to the amazement of all around her, felt a surge of heat and power as a good sized ball of fire sprang from her palm and hurled down the hall towards the armed man. In an instant, the man screamed, dropping his weapon which now was white-hot, and began to run from the hallway.

Rick, now pressed up against the frame of the door, froze. Taking in a deep breath he looked down at the woman, who herself looked equally surprised. A sudden bawl of tears burst forth from her co-worker, who scrambled to her feet and tore off into the building. Before Saccharine could follow, she found a gloved hand gripping her upper arm.

“… You know, I’m not a genius but ... I don’t think that’s normal.”

His grip on her arm was like iron, and there was no way SJ could get away from under his piercing gaze. He looked surprised, as well as equal parts angry and impressed.

"I... I'm..." SJ tried to explain, but realized that she couldn't even explain to herself what had happened. She never could explain her strange gift... or was it a curse? It only happened when she was at an emotional extreme, and again she felt the tingle of power at her fingertips.

This time, however, it was cold, and frost was staring to crackle on her fingernails. Panic and fear gripped her... fear of what this man would do to her if he knew her secrets.

Captain Coruscant

There was a small hiss, of what sounded like extremes of hot and cold meeting.

“It’s alright,” his hold loosened, before giving way completely.

“…We all have our secrets,” Rick added with a knowing smile before glancing out into the great hall, where the Chiru was spinning circles around the last of the cult members, as the bank employees and patrons rushed out of the main door into the welcoming arms of the Watch. Nodding, he looked back to the girl. It wasn’t often you encountered someone who could hurl fireballs out of her fingertips, therefore when Rick or Robin did, they tended to want to get to know them and hopefully get them onto their side.

“If you ever want someone to talk to about that… we’re all in the same boat as you.”

SJ watched the other two men work, speechless and in awe of their abilities. After a moment, she turned back to the man she had been talking to, who now stood with a slight smile on his face.

"Well... I'm not like them. I mean... I can't control it, I've been trying to hide it, but..."

She looked down at her hands, skin laced with faint scorch marks but nails still blue in fear.

"I guess it's not working as well as I'd like."

“I’m sure with practice you could get it down,”

As he was doing so frequently lately, Rick was considering putting an offer forward to the girl. A proposal that she help Robin and himself in what they did, which would no doubt be delivered also to laser eyes.

“… You think you’d have the stomach for all this hero stuff?”

"Well..."

SJ looked around her, watching the other costumed man fire what looked like a laser beam from an interesting eyepiece. She had assumed that it was some sort of new weapons technology, but now, she was even more impressed.

"...If what you say is true, and you belive I can learn to control this, I'd give it a shot."

“Alright then, kid. Once we’ve mopped this up and gotten the whole issue cleared, I’ll fill you in a bit more. Meet us out back in 20 minutes.”

With this said Rick jogged back off into the fray with the others. Within minutes the police were pouring in to take the criminals off to their jail cells, whilst security teams and staff from the bank itself were given what support they needed as they tidied and patched up various pieces of the bank. Once this was done the Watch thanked the three costumed characters, who disappeared without a word.

Meanwhile, in the parking lot of the bank, the engine of a rusty old speeder hummed. Inside the car was sat a teen with odd glasses and a scruffy, lank looking man, who were talking whilst a taller more well built and aged figure leant on the bonnet of the speeder.

Waiting.

The man ran off without another word, and SJ stood in silence for a moment, still taking it all in. She turned around, examining the staff room for her belongings, and after grabbing a small purse and a gray jacket that matched her sensible pleated skirt, she headded out towards the back door.

She felt like she must look absurd, but thankfully, didn't have any runs in her nylons or too much hair out of place. She had spent years covering up her... gift? No, it wasn't a gift, she had decided that a long time ago. Too uncontrolable, too dangerous. Sticking to the most mundane of jobs had proved useful up until now...

But, if these people were for real... She thought to herself, rounding a corner and pushing the back door open, standing out in the parking lot and shielding her eyes from the bright sun that reflected off of the buildings. Looking around, she spotted someone standing by a beat up speeder. Head up, SJ. Taking a deep breath, she walked towards them.

While Robin indoctrinated laser eyes in the back seat, Rick took a few steps forward off of the speeder bonnet towards the approaching girl. He wore a smile – it was an almost fatherly expression which he had grown used to wearing around the young Robin.

“Glad to see you didn’t turn down the offer.”

"Well, I always stick to my promises..."

She managed a smile, glad now that the threat inside the bank was over.

"...even if it involves meeting strange men in a parking lot."

“Surely you’ve realized by now that we’re the good guys,”

There was a general nod from Robin, who – sat in the back of the speeder – had stopped talking with the new recruit upon seeing the girl arrive.

“I guess you know why I asked you to come out here, huh? … To help us out. We could really do with someone like you on our side and I definitely think with a little fine tuning you could get that power of yours down so that you could summon it at will. Now I’m not going to force you into this, since it’s a dangerous lifestyle and we don’t get all that much credit for it… but I am going to offer it to you.”

Sj cracked a small smile at the man who was talking to her.

"Yeah, I figured that part out... you all being the good guys, I mean."

She glanced back at the other men in the speeder and then continued.

"Seeing as most people don't have this as a day job."

The sun was beginning to set on the city, and I looked out on it once more, thinking of all the people who lived here, different cultures, species, races... but so few like us. So few like me. I looked back up at the man who was awaiting my decision, feeling a strange sense of peace about my decision, despite the danger that came with it.

"I want to learn, and I hope you can teach me. If I can become an asset to your team, I would love to join it."

“I’ll give it my best shot,”

Rick smiled warmly. Originally he had helped to teach Robin how to deal with what gifts he had. IT had been a difficult experience but he was sure with patience and time the same could be done for this girl. Suddenly realizing he’d forgotten something, he added:

“I’m Rick, by the way. What should I call you? Heat wave?” he laughed, obviously only joking.
