...TO A POINT, CHODE-MONGERS!

Posted on Thu, Mar. 20, 2003

News in brief from the San Francisco Bay area
Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO - Dozens of anti-war protests around the city stalled firefighters and police trying to respond to emergencies, officials said Thursday.

"We have been able to respond to all priority calls for service," said police spokesman Dewayne Tully.

Priority calls include robbery, homicide and burglary, Tully said.

Protesters need to cooperate with police and fire departments so they can reach emergencies that have nothing to do with the demonstrations, said fire department spokeswoman Katherine Alba-Swanson.

Some firefighters have been helping police break locks that protesters are using to link themselves together.

Sorry, but if I were there, I'd totally come unglued.

Grrr

If they block traffic in anyway in Time Square they get arrested immeadiatly. I like that. In DC 14th street bridge (which is one of the big arterries into the city) had protesters on both sides completely halting traffic.

The bong-monkeys have effectively stopped traffic on two portland bridges, last time I heard.

... while, of course, the rest of us are at work or doing something USEFUL with our lives.

I heard one anti-war protestor plunged to his or her death from some bridge over there. Not too sure of the details but it sounds like pandemonium.

I saw stuff on Fox news.. they're intrupting my shows, and they were showing the protesters earlier.. what's wrong with people? How is blocking traffic and such going to help their cause? :rolleyes

Blocking traffic is retarded. I hate people who block traffic for any reason.

Here in chicago, they are blocking the Outer Drive... a huge mini-highway that connects parts of chicago together. Frelling idiots.

I think someone forgot to tell them that A. We are on Hight alert for Terrorism ... the police and fire department have better things to do. B. They are making themselves a good target for point A

:rolleyes

Pissing off people isn't a way to protest a war

Its like protest organizers are really bad, evil, failed door-to-door salesmen.

"Hi! You wanna buy a shop-vac?"

No? Get out of my house.

"Rwar...I mean...just look at how it cleans up this RED WINE ON YOUR CARPET!"

They're not actually blocking traffic here, there's not enough of them! :)

Out by our mall they've been starnding around protesting for the last week or so.. I usually walk from the mall to this comic book store close by there so they bug me and my friends, trying to give us pamlets.. it's annoying.

I hate hippy pamphlets. There was a member of the Zendik tribe in New Orleans, as we were walking down Canal street. She was trying to pass out anti-war pamphlets and speak about the crazy Zendik rhetoric (I've met these people before, they're absolutely bats!) I looked at her for a moment, and asked her if she wanted a beer. I think she hates me, so I've done my job :)

Protesters in general bother me.. maybe because I've never seen one that had a cause I agreed with.

You know what they're doing down here?

Apparently they are zipping themselves into bodybags and laying in the middle of entrances to businesses.

How is that going to help anything? My husband said that if he saw one of them blocking the entrance to his workplace, he'd run them over.. Then explain.. "But officer, it was a grey bump.. I thought it was a new speedbump!!"

Personally, I'd park my car in the road.. get out, kick them in the nuts a few times.. then haul them and dump them in the bushes.. And if it was a woman, I'd just kick the crap out of them.

They wouldn't protest by my workplace for very long.

A few weeks ago we had thousands protesting peacefully in Australia, then there's videos of people who have no idea why they're protesting, now we have people falling off bridges and zipping themselves into bodybags. Talk about sublime to the ridiculous. :rolleyes

Ryla Relvinian
Mar 20th, 2003, 10:05:08 PM

I have nothing against protestors, but come on!

Look blocking access to civil services like the police and fire fighters is just plain stupid. Your not helping any cause, just tieing up time that could be used to stop fires, catch the bad guys, ect..

The police were right to arrest them.

You know.. it's sad.. I used to be very middle of the road on the subject of war. For every prowar argument, I could make a valid antiwar point.

But it's amazing what the power of debate can do for someone. Through reading and expressing my own opinions on the war with everyone else, I have found that I am extremely pro-war in this case. I'm starting to ask myself how I could even make a case against war in this situation.. I'm sorry.

These protestors are morons, I'm sorry. Peaceful protesting is all well and good. But standing in the middle of major thoroughfairs and blocking workplace entrances.. What does that serve to do? Will it make Pres. Bush up and go.. "Oh wait.. You're right.. This is a stupid war.. I'll pull out our troops now."

Please. I'm glad the police are arresting them.. unfortunately while the police and fire department are occupied with morons, more pressing matters are going by unchecked.

Ryla Relvinian
Mar 21st, 2003, 12:03:33 AM
Don't be sorry, Bel! I think that any rational person will take all sides under examination and see that pro-war is the best decision. The only thing many of these protesters have is the misguided delusions that this is a war for oil and that what we are doing is somehow worse than the atrocities Saddam has done to his own people. Sad sad people.

For the record, the Salukis got robbed in the tournament today... :\

I haven't seen any major protests in my area. There have been some smaller groups (20-40 people usually) standing on corners of major intersections with signs, but that's about it. No stupid people trying to block traffic or disrupt daily city function... at least not yet.

My neighborhood has been largely untouched by protestors, in fact there are two scheduled rallies in the area supporting troops but about twice as many anti-war protests planned in far-off places that I don't need to pass through. Whether for work or for social. :)

People need a life because anti-war demonstrations isn't going to resolve anything. It never has. Instead go home and support our troops.

Lol, absolutely no protestors in the city I live in. Though there was a protest in downtown vancouver, on a uni's grounds or something, where a bunch of prot's got run over by someone in a CRX or something. No-one killed, but a bunch of ppl bloodied up and injured.

Not sure whose side to be on. The prots, cause what that person did was just sick, or the person in the Car, cause they were blocking off the road, and obviously refused to get out of the way.

Oh well.

I think that they should keep protesting. But I'd prefer if they made an effort to show that they also support the troops. Anyone of them that goes off on a tangent similiar to spoiled 60's hippies who shouted out "Baby Killer!" and spat on soldiers should meet the business end of a nightstick.

I always thought they should have just turned loose the 'Nam vets on the protestors and seen how long the chants of baby killer and spitting lasted when man trained to kill you with his hands in ringing your neck.

Beldarine

I don't mind if they protest.

But blocking the roads and blocking entrances to businesses is going too far. It will only serve to piss people off.

Personally if one of them got in my way, I'd run their peacenick a$$ over.

And the greatest thing about it is that I read a paper today.. and it didn't even talk about all the protests around the country. It touched on the peaceful ones, but ignored the ones in San Francisco and the like. Good for them!
