So my A+ teacher and I are gonna smelt some old parts and take out the gold, how exactly does one smelt if anyone knows?

Thats why we are looking for a general idea of to do. Otherwise we'd be melting it now... in his garage ... in a steel pot over a propane heater.

Not quite the full definition.

Smelter is melt and skim. Melt the substance so it seperates into elements, skim off what you want / dont want.

Can also be by electrical currents, not just heat.

I believe you need some type of flux when using electricity though, dont you?

Or is that only for arc welding..

Soldering a flux is used for. That's normally in the wire tho.
