Having fun at someone elses expense, maybe. I just don't see the need point out something like that. So the person wants to lurk and maybe read some threads. That's the person's perogative. The person isn't causing trouble, or doing anything harmful. Let them lurk and read. If the person wants to be pointed out, they'll log in and make themselves publically visible in the "whos online" display.

But, whatever... have fun. I'll let you to it.

This thread needent be here.

Isn't that the whole purpose for being invisible? So they can lurk on the board without having the common folk know they are there. So they might have a peaceful time lurking or posting or whatnot?

I just see this as an abuse of power and an invasion of privacy. Especially giving out the first letter of said poster's name.

Bad form.... bad form.

Xazor Elessar
Feb 25th, 2003, 09:53:23 PM
Ooooooo, I know who it is now. I think you guys shouldn't have this thread -- they obviously want to lurk and so let them! *sigh* Really, picking at them and calling them a coward is not something we at SWFans should be known for. :\

There are 26 letters in the alphabet and a billion more posters on the forum. There's enough anonymity for said poster to remain lurking. The red carpet has simply been rolled out, is all.

If the poster wishes to post, they will. If they wish to lurk, they will, and nobody will be the wiser.

Sorry I honestly don't get the big deal behind lurking. It is a person's option to be invisible or not, right?

If not..well hey, no one should have the option to be invisible then. Why bother having the option?

Quite honestly...I dont get the big deal.

Liu Fong
Feb 25th, 2003, 10:19:09 PM
I don't care who the person is, or why they're lurking. But I find a celebration of lurking to be quite hilarious. :lol

Keerrourri Feessaarro
Feb 25th, 2003, 10:21:32 PM
Its all in jest. Essentially, a few months ago, the staff noticed that this person was lurking on a regular basis (ie, every day), but not posting at all. We decided that if said poster was seen lurking over 100 times, that we'd throw a welcome party. :)

Nathanial K'cansce
Feb 25th, 2003, 10:23:37 PM
If someone lurks for months and months without posting, well, it just becomes kinda funny.

What's wrong with just reading what people write here? Maybe they just like reading the storylines that are occuring here.

There are 26 letters in the alphabet and a billion more posters on the forum. There's enough anonymity for said poster to remain lurking.

I can give you the names of 5 people in this thread whom could instantly tell who this thread was a about. There is hardly any anonymity with those who have any idea about things.

If the poster wishes to post, they will. If they wish to lurk, they will, and nobody will be the wiser.

Agreed, so my question is, why this thread was started? Just seems like a poker to keep the fire warm.

And jest or not, I believe it crosses a line when they are being called cowards and the like.

Just my two cents.

Hi Zeke

But Zeke that is not the case. People's feelings should be considered first. Not after the fact.

If thats the case...HECK...I've lurked recently myself. See my point. That's all I am trying to say.

Keerrourri Feessaarro
Feb 25th, 2003, 10:34:19 PM
Agreed. If the poster has any concerns regarding the thread, they may make them known and they will be acted on.

Perhaps, Leia...but not every day for the past six months.

Figrin D'an
Feb 25th, 2003, 10:34:54 PM
And what if the person doesn't take it in jest? What if the person thinks it's an attempt to slight and embarass him/her?

Regardless of the degree of anonymity that you believe is present, people talk... they ponder, they speculate, and they talk. It won't take long for them to put the pieces together and figure out to whom it is this thread refers.

I find this thread thoroughly inappropriate, regardless of the intended jest. It just serves to give the board, and the staff, a bad reputation.

I've spoken my mind. I won't be participating in this further.

How can you say that Chris? You know/knew me at GJO. I was an admin there for a long time. I would like to think I was a fair person and was told I was.

This is totally uncalled for and I would have objected to it over there and I don't care who it is.

I find it interesting that a few people who never post here any more posted in this thread. :)

WB Leia and Obiwan2!

As for a lurker to sign in if they want to be known, that's all well and good. It is, as most of us know, very easy for a person to not sign in, and still be able to read all the threads here. Banned people can do that. If a banned person signs in, they cannot see threads.

Lurkers who lurk while signed in, *can* indeed be seen. Its not like the mods or admins were going out of their way to seek this person out. It just happened. And it happened to much, it tickled a funny spot.
