Actually it had been closed earlier in the day, but had been reopened. The moderators here made the judgement that the argument was just going in circles and in essence had turned into a ticking time bomb. A few members had already gotten upset.

Anyways, we apologize because we know it was a popular thread. I also admit even though the staff on our portion of the forums was for this judgement, other mods felt we were too aggressive. If you feel that way too I'm sorry. It was just something we felt needed to be done.

I think a new thread could be started, but it would have to be made clear that personal insults won't be tolerated in a thread of such heated magnitude. It's a touchy topic to begin with, so cracking people REALLY isn't constructive. :)

I think sometimes its therapeutic to hear dissenting viewpoints. Not only can it reinforce your own views, but you can take solace in the fact that "At least you don't believe in that."

Well I posted ONE response in that thread and it was when I was pissed about something else, so I wouldn't take what I said all that seriously. My only real feeling on the matter is that the French are cowards and I don't respect their views on any international issues, BUT I sympathize actually with anti-war protestors because war is a horrible thing, so is anything where lives are lost, and if at all possible it would be great if war could be avoided.

If not, however, it must be done quickly and efficiently and also we must help Iraq after that, not screw them over, because that'll just create even bigger problems. I already think it'll take like 200 years, if ever possible, for our relations with the Middle East to become somewhat neutral or amiable. It's too bad, really, because it is mostly just the decisions of a few hundred key people throughout the last 50 years or whatever that has created such a rift, whereas the actual people in the U.S. and the people in the Middle East might not be so negatively disposed towards one another without those decisions...

I doubt the French are cowards so much than that they want to protect their interests, such as that nice influx of Iraqi oil that they pay for with weapons. They aren't cowards. They're dangerous hypocrites, with no moral compass.

I make jokes about the French because they like to snub their noses at Americans. But they're JOKES! You could make a case that WWII just evened the score. Without Frenchie how do we trap Cornwallis at Yorktown? They bailed us out, we bail them out. We're even.

And the biggest mistake of my political life was voting for that POS joke of a candidate, Nader. But I was ignorant and idealistic then. Its harder to see things with your head in the clouds.

My votes for Nader were the best votes I've ever cast in a Presidential Election.

In 96 I was just voting for the Green Party. In 2000 I was voting Green AND for Nader.


Out of curiosity... Why would you vote for someone who you thought was a POS?

In retrospect, he's a POS waste of a vote. Took 3 years, but I found reality. At the time, seemed "cool" or whatever. I was a socialist at the time, and Nader was the most benign of supposed "three evils". More I think about it, more I should've crossed the border south and cast a vote that actually would make a difference. As I've said before, it took getting an education to purge my inner ignorant activist.

Perot....(sigh) Good freakin grief, he was nuts. Yes, I realize I'm saying this as a man who voted for Nader but I believe in the healing power of change :)!

The whole dig against NAFTA was just....absolutely bizarre. I think it would've been even funnier to see him run in 2000, and hear what kind of "EU Conspiracies" he would cook up...even if the Union is fast becoming "France's bitchy sandbox".

He was obviously a far better businessman than political candidate. EDS is quite an impressive company...or at least, used to be :)

I was in a skit in college in which we did a Prez debate between Clinton, Bush, and Perot. My best friend was Perot and I did my drop dead Bush Sr. impression. We were both basically imitating Carvey imitating the candidates. Man, do I miss that guy's impressions.

I still haven't seen that movie I doubt I will. About the Green party I know it is big in Europe France and Germany in particular, I think in the last parlimentary Election the Greens go around 10% of the vote the most ever for them. I wouldn't vote for them though, I am big with the environment, but its really a waste of a vote their are better ways to help the environment than vote for them.
