I think he is asking how does the effectiveness/quality of the first post in a RP thread affect the success or failure or just overall quality of a thread as a whole........................I think.................no maybe not..

Classic rules about first impressions certainly apply... if it doesn't grab the reader early on, chances are they won't come back to it later.

I dont know how my question was something you could answer with "no" or "yes" when I was asking what you would look for in a topic starting. I wasn't stating it rudely..

Try and read whatever it is aloud before posting. Might help a bit.

Well, in an intro post, I look for 3 things to help me out info wise.

1) Time of day.
2) Setting. That is, City, Forest, Desert, indoors, outdoors.
3)A general sense that the person who started the thread knows where he or she wants the the thread to go. It's easier for me to join a thread if I know how the original author wants the thread to end.

And even if the thread has all these things, I still might not join it if I think the first post is boring to read.

Ah, for me I have to be able to see my character being at the locale that's described, if not, I don't join in, and lenght comes into account too.
