Watching those snakes eat absolutely rocks. My biology teacher used to feed hers in the middle of class. The guys would cheer the snake while the girls screamed over the fate of the mouse. >D Was fun.

Snakes are awsome but lizards are better....

I don't actually think it fair to feed mice to snakes like that. I believe if you are going to keep snakes then surely you can feed them in a less unfair manner. I believe in the natural order and all that stuff; snakes in the wild can feast on mice to their hearts content but not those in captivity. Goes against the laws of nature in my eyes.

Its not like we feed it in a malicious manner. Only when he needs food. Every 2 weeks. That means, that only 26 mice die per year. Its as humane as you can be to both mouse and snake alike :lol

Yes, but can't you release the snake in a closed garden area and allow it to hunt the mice in a more natural manner? Please? :)

If you have a dog and/or cat, can you stop feeding it and allow it to do the same?

Do the same what? Dogs and cats eating mice is hardly common place.

Do you own a cat?

And for my golden, Abby....she's eaten rocks, sticks, boards on our deck, trampoline covers, and birds. They, like snakes, are predators just the same. The only difference is that you can always feed a dog dead food, and usually can do so with a cat.

For snakes, its impossible.

Why is it any more "fair" to make a snake go and get its food (and risk losing it) when you wouldn't do that for a dog or cat. The tuna, chicken, or beef you feed them still has to die...so who cares?

I thought of all things it would be more fair on the snake. I am not saying it would be more fair for the sake of the mouse, it is very much in the snakes nature to hunt and kill hence it wont accept dead food.

I would assume a snake would enjoy being allowed to catch it's food rather than being given it. Forgive me my skepticism but I don't think a dog or cat has a snowball's chance in hell of surviving in the wild when compared to a snake.

I don't hold the mouse in front of the snake and let him take it from my hand. He still has to "catch" it...though within the confines of the cage.

I guess that's better than running the risk of losing the snake. How big are snake tanks?

My cats catch LOTS of mice. We usually get a present every week or every other week.

Those are the ones they share with us. I'm sure they get a lot more. Our cats could survive without us, but then they wouldn't stick around.
