Dasquian Belargic
Jan 17th, 2003, 11:01:21 AM
You're lucky if you get that speed :)

TheHolo.Net
Jan 17th, 2003, 11:03:50 AM
Nah, windows is notorious for not telling the truth in dial up networking and the speed it connects at. 56 K is the maximum for a dial up connection.

Morgan Evanar
Jan 17th, 2003, 11:15:33 AM
Yup. But if it says its at that speed, you've got great phone lines. The lowest speed I ever got in my home was 49k with AOL (about 5 or 6 years ago) and a solid 115 (really 56) every time I dialed into Mindspring. Steady 5.6k/sec DLs. Wasn't bad, but I pined hard for DSL.

Ket Van Derveld
Jan 17th, 2003, 11:22:19 AM
I like dial-up. Keeps me from DLing too much crap I don;t really need or really want. LOL. So, i'll keep it for now.

Jan 17th, 2003, 11:37:49 AM
Oh, it's YOU!

BT wont install it here. We had as many Broadband requests as Newcastle. You need 400, we both were around 20. HOW DID YOU GET IT?????

Rant over :)

... On freeserve?

ReaperFett
Jan 17th, 2003, 11:59:56 AM
On anyone. Noone does my area, while at the same time making my service worse to tempt people onto broadband. And does the Government do anything about this? The fact that consumers are basically being forced into paying the same for a poorer service so they can make more in the cities? Are they hell.

Vega Van-Derveld
Jan 17th, 2003, 12:04:18 PM
BT are going to be forced to sell-out some of their rights to the countries phone lines soon. Maybe then someone will actually provide a decent services.

What really annoyed me was the fact that they advertise BT Broadband CONSTANTLY, saying how easy it is to get, etc, yet they seem to do everything in their power from stopping you from using it. You'd think they didn't want customers.

Morgan Evanar
Jan 17th, 2003, 12:14:28 PM
There seems to be a pretty big difference here with local service and what you folk get.

Bellsouth in Miami is excellent, in terms of phone service. It was generally acknowledged by many of an older generation that AT&T did a good job too, and didn't charge unreasonable rates. It was a reasonable monopoly. AT&T was considered to be an extremely safe investment 25 years ago.

Its not really anymore. The telecom industry, even in America, is far more volitile than it used to be. At least thats what everyone 40 and over tells me.

The worst one Vega is the AOL LYING ONE.

"With AOL, you can download movie trailers"

NO WAY! NOT THE TRAILERS A 14.4k CAN DOWNLOAD?????

Jeez.

And BT are still suffering because of the Monopolies comission. They wanted to give free internet years ago. They were stopped, as it is "unfair". TO WHO? I Wanted free Internet!

Vega Van-Derveld
Jan 17th, 2003, 12:26:06 PM
With AOL, you can download movie trailers

LOL

My friend has AOL and it took him about a week to download just one song.

I heard about that free internet thing. They wanted to get the whole country online by a certain time or something... but I bet the connection speed would be terrible on free net. :x

Since I got DSL a week ago, I've discovered that iMesh is vastly superior to kazaa.

Morgan Evanar

And? So is everything. And some things that will come up as SPyware are actually essential to run the program.

Jan 17th, 2003, 09:17:48 PM
Ok,so now I have THREE pins.

1. "I'm a man who plays one at SWFans.net"
2. "One Man = One Charrie"

and now

3. "Dial-Up and Proud!"

LMAO!

:lol

Morgan Evanar

And? So is everything.

Right. Look Fett, I know you're ignorant, but there is a variant of Kazaa called Kazaa Lite without spyware.

Kazaa is "inferior" except that iMesh crashed my machine a long time ago. :rolleyes

Jan 17th, 2003, 09:30:48 PM
Really? Heh, that happened to someone else. It mustnt like you ;)

Marcus Telcontar
Jan 17th, 2003, 10:06:00 PM
iMesh is spyware laden and hence isnt worth spit. Kazaalite may not be as "good" but at least it's clean. I'll take that anyday

ReaperFett
Jan 17th, 2003, 10:23:10 PM
My spyware program found more on Kazaa than iMesh :)

And course its worth spit. Couldnt get the Rollerball cut scene on Kazaa :)

Marcus Telcontar
Jan 18th, 2003, 05:25:18 PM
Then use Kazaalite.

I happen across these at different forums. Its not like it takes effort to right click and save.

I'll stop flaming you if you stop endangering other's computers with terrible advice.

Implying its good, implying promotion. Really Fett, I'm not in the mood for a ongoing debate. You live for these things for some reason. Just stop giving opionions/information about computer stuff beyond games.

In the tennis match between Reaper and Morgan it's 15-15 when the judge decides to shoot the ball to end the fighting.

1)iMesh and Kazaa have more spyware then I like so I don't use them.

2)I'm on a 56k so it would take forever to DL off of them.

3)I really don't care. :p

Morgan Evanar
Jan 18th, 2003, 09:19:49 PM
Hay dude, you can get Kazaa Lite, which has no spyware.

I dont live for them. I just seem to always end up in them :)

Just stop giving opionions/information about computer stuff beyond games.
Yeah, because like anyone would ever agree with my opinions there either :rolleyes
