View Full Version : Wondering how to get Knighted

Straffe Stormrider
Jan 10th, 2003, 01:56:51 PM
I was told you have to have a minimum of three months here and a certain amount of experiance. I was just woundering if I could be knighted soon? I asked my Master (Lance Stormrider) and he said he would talk to you guys but that was like a month ago.

Jan 10th, 2003, 02:17:40 PM
I think Rule Number One is don’t ask to be Knighted.

Just continue to be active in threads across the board, show interest in the goings-on of GJO and try not to think about it – it’ll come when it’s meant to :)

Represent the Order! I did that for a long time. And don't ask, makes you look impatient (Jedi are PATIENT!) Go fight Inu-Aku or something. Defend the innocent, be Jedi-like...it'll come when you least expect it (but most deserve it) :)

a) Cant enphasis the Do Not Ask enough

b) Correct about the last statement. Promotion when it comes down to it is when you deserve it and not before. The three month thing is only a guideline, nothing more. Proper charater development and training will normally take longer than three months and in some cases some have been Padawans for a year or more. It really will come when you deserve it and believe me, it may seem like a long time, but the promotion then becomes a valued thing, much worthwhile and even something of an achievement OOC.

I just got into the Padawan thing, so I'm just looking forward to what is going on now, and learning and such. I rather not think about Knighthood at all..

Jan 10th, 2003, 10:10:14 PM
Trust me, Straffe, and enjoy your days as a Padawan. That may sound strange, but what you do as a Padawan will define your character. I rather admired having Kindo progress through his training and be something totally different that what he started as. Have fun during your Padawan days because trust me, being a Knight and having Padawans keeps you busy.

Thanks alot guys...I just wanted the info cause I find that when your a knight...People think your stronger :)

Syrius Cline
Jan 11th, 2003, 11:58:40 PM
Yes, that's true. And rightfully so I guess, since a Padawan is by definition not experienced. But there are always ways to get by the power barrier. Be creative, I can't say much more than that. Just try and find ways to win without your characters strength or ability, but rather his noggin'.

Oh, and cherrish these days, truely. Ki Adi could not be more right. I have another character (Sage Hazzard) and he's a Jedi Master. It's just not fun. Especially since there's a lot of pressure on you to be great. If you lose a fight, and I'm speaking for myself here, you feel kind of like you let the title down. Also, being a Padawan is just more fun. That's why I made Syrius, to start over again. Sure I'd like to be a Knight one day with this character, but I'm here for the ride too. :)

It'll come. Length varies. Actually, this favors better for you, not being promoted too soon. You can have more training threads. Once you become a Knight, it's mainly field practice from there. So let's say you want to make sure your character has Force Strength nailed. But what if your character is promoted before he really gets that down? Well, then it takes longer to prove your character can do that skill, because you have to work it up either in spars or fights. In training threads you have a ready made checklist to show people and for reference, when there's a descrepency in weither or not your character can do that skill well. :)

Focusing on winning and losing are not good ways to go about things. :)

This isn't a competition. Attitudes of competition lead to OOC grudges and misunderstandings quite often. Its better to try and think of things as a cooperative story telling environment, rather than something that can be lost or won.

Don't pigeonhole yourself into being so simplistic as winning or losing, go beyond and develop your characters.

Syrius Cline
Jan 12th, 2003, 12:12:03 AM
I've actually figured that out now, although sometimes I forget. In my youth as a Master, I was all gung-ho about being one, then I lost a battle and had my pride wounded. In my early days I god moded a lot, although I don't think anyone pointed it out. I also was WAY too concearned about the score tally of wins and losses. I guess that's why I always have low self esteem about this RPing thing. I just pay too much attention to the score. Not setting a very good example, I know. Also one of the big reasons I wanted to play as Syrius Cline. Again, to start over. Have the experience as a Padawan like I should have the first go around.

There is much more gratifaction in creating a character and nurturing it into a mature state through time and effort, developing it slowly until it takes on a life of its own. A life that includes much more than a constant fight with one individual or another.

I can't stress enough that Rping here at Fans should not be thought of as a competition with winners and losers. Thats just not what I think its about and is not what makes this place great. Its making characters so rich with content they are as close to alive as writing can make them. :)

Let me tell everyone here that doesn't relize you RP, that you practice what you preach buddy. I heard stories of how you RPed your apprenticeship. It's truely a model to live by, pal. :)

Lesson to him kiddies. He's smarter than me. That ain't no joke. (the double negative should prove my statement. :lol )

It has always been a strong ideal of mine to be the example that I preach. Thank you for letting me know that I have accomplished that to at least some extent. :)

Another question...Where else can I post other then The GJO or Starwars Roleplaying/Story telling?

Zeke
Jan 12th, 2003, 01:36:13 PM
Any of the other group forums.

Jamel Croko'yn
Jan 12th, 2003, 01:48:03 PM
Don't they have some kind of boundaries blocking Jedi from comin' in or something

Zeke
Jan 12th, 2003, 01:51:42 PM
You can post to TSO and the Shrine...just be aware that they'll probably mail what's left of you back to GJO in an envelope...

Jamel Croko'yn
Jan 12th, 2003, 01:53:23 PM
"TSO"? Hmm, whats that? Is that the Imperail, and why can't we go into the Cizerak, we are allies right?

Straffe Stormrider
Jan 12th, 2003, 02:09:50 PM
but then is there like anyother neutralk place we can post? Cause Im board of always posting in the same places....This site is so big and I want to RP in all of it

Jamel Croko'yn
Jan 12th, 2003, 02:17:28 PM
Best idea would be to create another character

Zeke
Jan 12th, 2003, 02:21:54 PM
TSO is The Sith Order. I don't see why you couldn't post to the Pride.

Straffe Stormrider
Jan 12th, 2003, 02:27:32 PM
I went to post there but it seems like there isnt anywhere to post

Jamel Croko'yn
Jan 12th, 2003, 02:57:48 PM
Which one, TSO, or Cizerak..

Also, why wouldn't you be able to post at the Imperail Place

Anbira Hicchoru
Jan 12th, 2003, 03:38:35 PM
The Pride is open for visitors. I check it every once in a while, as do others.

Straffe Stormrider
Jan 12th, 2003, 07:31:27 PM
but when I go to TSO I dont see anywhere interesting to post

Zeke
Jan 12th, 2003, 07:35:59 PM
That's because TSO is so small and inactive now there's nothing to do. Try stirring up some trouble in their visitor's forum...someone'll post...maybe...

You could, if you want to invest the time, create a IC bar on EZBoard. Just an idea. Make up a character that's a bar owner, start a board with the bar as a forum, then have your Jedi character to visit it. Advertise the grand opening IC, with your bar owner character passing around business cards at the various RP group's places, to get others to come and join the fun. Or you could start a thread in the RPing forum about flying a banner over the Corusant skyline. Interesting ways to advertise IC, if you want to pursue that idea.

Jan 12th, 2003, 11:10:21 PM
Hasn't the bar idea been done to death? Seems like everyone * has * to have a bar, as some clone of GJO or that other bar the Sith used to have. The Bar is executed here, the better idea is find a good idea that is possibly unique, then execute it well instead.

Syrius Cline
Jan 12th, 2003, 11:20:35 PM
Ah, good idea. Heck, since I've got nothing to do, let me throw out a few things:

Gambling Casino
Starship Cruise
Amusement Park
Gym (with health bar! :lol)

Lion El' Jonson
Jan 13th, 2003, 06:32:30 AM
I think that the Imps had this giant gambling ship that was practically a chunk of Las Vegas floating around in space...there was alot of discussion about it if you look in the Archives...it sounded like a pretty cool idea to me, except they also said that there'd be government-sponsored mugging onboard...:p

Zeke
Jan 13th, 2003, 10:00:36 AM
Actually, TSO has the Saiatah High Roller, which is like what Lion said, just under Sith control.

Jan 13th, 2003, 04:01:54 PM
The best way to develop your character is not so much rping at so many boards, but having a variety of the characters you interact with.

Try to think of a setting or a plot where you will run into say..Hutts, or Cizeracks, or Nemoidians, and name them in the title so one of them will show up.

This will help build on what your character experiences and learns etc, and will just broaden your whole game altogether.

There are a gazillion things to do other than visit bars.

Some think because they are padawans they are limited...infact, it is easier beacuse padawans can play "dumb" when going places, Knights/Masters know better than going etc. No matter your rank, you can roleplay every bit as much.

go to www.Meras.org its an extension of SWfans and there are several non group boards there where you can rp. Plus also tons of extra OOC chat most not related to Stars wars.

Alright here is a brief description of Meras for the people of the GJO.

Omnicron Theta = OOC chat for every one

Omnicron Omega = OOC chat for registered members.

Frequently Asked Questions = is well FAQ

The RPG Network Database = is general help it lists every possible thing that Ogre didn't want to post in FAQ.

__________________________________________________

What’s on the Planet Meras?

Meras is the home Planet of navaria Tarkin but is currently under the control of Dalethria Mal Pannis a Dark Jedi remember IC you know none of this.

Irentios= home to Navaria tarkin and Current home to Dalethria Mal Pannis remember she is Dark Jedi and then there’s her evil sister sorsha *shouders*. Best beat stay away from there.

Ogres cave = Ogre is a green angry man hell bent on world domination but on the inside he is a lovable Kermit the frog. Ogre is also Daletheria's husband but thank god there kid doesn't look like him. This is his cave deep in the woods. Unless you pass through Irentios don't plain on making it to the cave.

Sanctuary- Not much is know about this place but what I can tell you is Nup runs it.

__________________________________________________

Off the planet Meras

We also have a nice verity of places of planet.

Fears womb= is run by one the hottest sith in boxers LD but don't get me wrong there is also a hidden Jedi Cafe with in those walls in which to RP at.

Fascinataru= is the current home of a bunch of Looney Lupines by the name of the Van Dervelds. Vega acts tuff but underneath it all he is a spoiled Baby. You can post here but beware you will get taunted. If you choose to go the OOC route on that board again prepare to be taunted.

The Ladies Lounge= don't let the name fool you there are Jedi women inside as well but the down side is if your a male your not allowed. I would say its sexist but then I would get my ass beat by ten thousand women.

Balmorra= is the planet ran by one of the empires leader's Taylor Millard and his wife. Now this is a great place to RP if you’re in the mood just keep this in mind Taylor is one scary Dude and He has a love for human skin.

Ord Mantell= what can I say it’s a planet ran by Trace Sha a sith lord but don't worry go post on there Jedi. I here he is kind of a hermit and doesn't get out much. Oh Yeah and the planet is a nice place for some scrap metal.

The Krath = Is the only actual group board and its rain by 15 and 16 year old kids who dejected themselves from the TSO Because they wanted freedom. There really more of a cult then anything but they try to act tuff and pretend to be Dark lords of the sith.

Zeke
Jan 15th, 2003, 11:07:21 AM
