An Australian geography major was asked where Alabama was. He said "by Arizona...because they both start with an A".

:lol its a global pandemic

Those are some REALLY clueless people, especially the old man who thought there were 3 world wars. But for all the wrong, stupid answers they got, they probably received 10 times that amount in correct answers, but they were conveniently edited out. You would find those types of idiots in any industrialized country because they've got their heads too far up their own rears to realize anything else is going on outside their own borders.

One could argue that he was right.

Fair enough, but if you got that as the $1,000,000 question on who wants to be a millionaire, what do you pick?
A - 1
B - 2
C - 3
D - 3695

Diego Van Derveld

The thing is...the first war of a global scale was not WW1. It is the Napoleonic War. Thus...taking that into consideration, he'd be right. It's a stretch, but I could see that.

WW1 wasn't even a term used until WW2 came about. It was simply called the Great War. Its just a catch phrase.

Exactly... Yeah a lot of those people came across as really dumb, but I bet those were the minority of people they asked the questions to, and with convenient editing out of the right answers, they can make people look as dumb as they want...

Now, where was the Berlin Wall again??? :huh

Dec 29th, 2002, 05:07:17 PM
They wouldnt put that question on WHo Wants to be a Millionaire, as it is debatable.

Lilaena De'Ville
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:12:21 PM
I'd say that the Berlin Wall was in Berlin. Just a guess.

Oh, and I am a DONUT!

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:13:27 PM
That World War question isn't really debatable. I mean, there are technicalities, and they're are common perceptions. It's just common knowledge that they're are 2 World Wars. That's what they've been called for decades now. You could debate that other wars could be considered World Wars, but they're only 2 that are commonly called World Wars.

ReaperFett
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:19:19 PM
But thats the point. You CAN debate it.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:29:25 PM
No that's not the point. The point was what would be a correct answer if asked that question. And the correct answer would be 2 World Wars, not "2 but you could say....." :)

ReaperFett
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:37:03 PM
Matter of opinion :)

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:39:18 PM
No, it's a matter of whether or not you'd get the question RIGHT. So go ahead and say "3, because -insert major war- could be considered the first World War." But if you want to throw away a million bucks on it be my guest. :lol

ReaperFett
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:41:26 PM
And as its the US Millionaire we're talking, I'd sue them and win ;)

Diego Van Derveld
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:43:57 PM
But...there aren't but 3 wars on that kind of full-out global scale...so the point could very well be made.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:49:28 PM
But those other wars aren't currently called World War anything are they? So sue and lose another $100,000 on court costs. :) It's the Napoleonic War, not The War That Should Be Called World War I Because I Think I Have A Good Argument. I don't think I've ever seen that in a history book. :lol

ReaperFett
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:51:42 PM
Why is World War I called that? Because someone decided to make a sequel. We got a prequel too ;)

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:55:46 PM
It's called that because it's got a snazzy sound to it and people thought the Great War didn't have enough punch to it. Plus, ya know how people love aliteration. I'm surprised it's not called Wonderous War of World Wills Part I. We're a sequel starved world. :)

ReaperFett
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:59:34 PM
I was dissapointed by the lack of a sub-title :)

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 06:08:46 PM
I think they should have thrown in the word Revenge or Attack. Revenge of the Germans or Attack of the Germans. If they'd let Lucas name then that's what we would have gotten. Wait, he would have called WWII Return of the Germans. Germans don't seek Revenge, it's against the code. Right?o_O

Speaking of the postal service, are any of you guys having MAJOR problems lately with it?

I use NetFlix here to rent most of my movies, 8 out at $40 per month, so very expensive to me, and I sent a movie back Monday and it hasn't apparently even ARRIVED at NetFlix yet, though usually when I send a movie back I get a new movie within 6 to 7 days, no later than 8 days, but almost always just 7. Well I sent more movies back Tuesday (2), and I think I sent one more back Thursday, plus another Friday. Anyway, nothing has gotten there yet whatsoever and I've never had problems like this in my half-year with NetFlix. Is everyone else having trouble with slow post office delivery too?!
