It's hard to know really how hard some of these teams are going to play. The Niners OWN the Rams, but then again, they are resting players and waiting for the playoffs, they don't want any injuries, so the Rams might win because the Niners don't need the victory so much.

Actually, though, if the Niners win and the Bucs lose, then there is a chance the Niners would host another playoff game, the NFC Title game. That was described on Monday Night Football last week, so we'll see, but they could use the victory just in case.

Philadelphia
Kansas City (I gotta pick the upset)
Pittsburgh
Washington
Tennessee
Buffalo

New Orleans

Indianapolis
Green Bay
Denver
San Diego (I have a feeling these losers are going to find another way to lose; I hate the Chargers, stupid, awful football team as I said from the start, can't win anything)

Well, it's time to get desperate. I've got 5 games to make up so JMC and I have to go head to head on at least 5 games. Time to throw the Hail Mary and live with the consequences. I'm not a Buffalo Bill so second place means nothing to me! Let's see if I can pull off a miracle!

Geez, the Eagles got off to a quick start...

Figrin D'an
Dec 28th, 2002, 12:47:55 PM
And now the Giants look like they're going to answer right away...

Figrin D'an
Dec 28th, 2002, 12:49:49 PM
Except for an INT in the end zone... that was bad decision by Collins...

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 01:00:55 PM
A couple of 3 and outs by both teams. The Eagles have the ball now. I was surprised to see those career stats that Collins had against the Eagles. He's really played well against them. The G-Men had that 9 game winning streak against the Eagles, but I'm hoping today is different. The Eagles did win earlier this year so this year's team has had success against the Giants.

I would really like the Giants to win to keep Philly from having home field, but in the desperate race to catch JMC I need for Philly to win.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 02:16:31 PM
I don't know if the Giants are going to challenge that latest play. If they don't that'll be the 3rd drive they've killed with turnovers. They're dominating the game but they keep giving the ball away.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 02:53:57 PM
That's the second holding call to negate a Giants TD. Those two calls are some of the worst I've ever seen. Fossil is going to go off after the game. Those calls weren't even close IMO.

Figrin D'an
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:08:58 PM
I agree... both times, the defender just lost his footing, and the lineman fell on him. Really bad calls, especially in a game of this importance.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:11:37 PM
Another Giants turnover?! Are you kidding me? They overcome 2 holding calls that eliminate TD's, a missed FG, they tie the game, force the Eagles to punt and then fumble the ball giving the Eagles the ball at the Giants 26. This is one of the strangest games I've ever seen.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:15:02 PM
Big first down by Staley. That could be the game right there. They can run some serious clock off now and only leave the Giants a minute. If they get another first down the game is over for sure.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:22:58 PM
Ackers missed the FG! Are you kidding me? The Giants have plenty of time to drive down for a game winning FG. Here they go...

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:23:14 PM
WOW how did he miss that FG attempt??Now the Giants can win the game with a FG.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:25:47 PM
It looks like this game is heading to overtime. The Giants looked a bit clueless on this last drive.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:28:57 PM
The Eagles won the coin toss. The Giants have dominated this game. After that early TD they've completely shut down the Eagles. I think they would have won the game on their first OT drive if they'd won the toss. Now they have to hope the defense can stop the Eagles from mounting any kind of drive. The Eagles have Brian Mitchell just itching to get a chance for a big return...

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:30:02 PM
And Mitchell brings it out to the 45. The guy is phenomenal.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:31:14 PM
Big sack by Holmes. Feely held on to the ball way too long. I think Reed's going to have an easy decision to start McNab in two weeks. Feely just hit Mitchell for a short 3rd down play.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:33:40 PM
That was an obvious Pass Interference by Short on the INT. But I think those two holding calls may have made the refs a bit gun shy about throwing another big flag against the Giants. And now Troy Vincent made a bone headed play for a Personal Foul and 15 free yards.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:37:50 PM
Another Barber fumble! Thank god he recovered or he may never have played football again. What a wild game. Here comes the FG attempt.... Bryant makes the FG! The Giants deserved to win that game. Oh, well, JMC has a 6 game lead on me now. :(

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:39:53 PM
I am sorry Jedieb, there is always the playoffs. Well I am glad New Orleans didn't get in they didn't deserve to make it after losing to the Bengals. You think the Chiefs-Raiders game will be this exciting.

JMK
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:46:50 PM
Well I guess I can't hate the Giants that much. I went out on a good note with them. At least I keep pace with JMC. ;)

JMK
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:53:05 PM
Every week I do something stupid. I was just reviewing my picks and I had taken the Bears over the Bucs! :x

Methinks I'm going to change that right now! :lol

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 03:54:23 PM
I don't know about that Chiefs game. The weather is suppose to be pretty bad and they still don't have Holmes. The Raiders have been running the ball better and their passing game is better suited to bad weather because many of their routes are so short. I think the Chiefs have their work cut out for them. The playoffs start today for KC.

Figrin D'an
Dec 28th, 2002, 04:31:05 PM
For future reference, if you are going to change a pick once the slate of games have started, please make a new post... editing the original picks post once the games have started (or some games are completed), can lead to... well... problems.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 04:40:09 PM
Who changed their picks? It wasn't me!

Oh, I just saw JMK's post. The Bears aren't that bad of a pick. Tampa is going to have to overcome their cold weather jink to win at Chicago.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 28th, 2002, 05:27:32 PM
I know the weather is hurting the Chiefs running without Holmes is impossible. And they can't pass the ball well because of the rain, they have nothing to be ashamed of if they lose there is always next year. Oakland is getting older (this is their last year, IMO) San Diego could go either way and Denver well, it will depend on Griese.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 05:30:50 PM
The Chiefs just don't seem to be adjusting their game plan to the weather and the field. You can see the Raiders are running the ball more than usual and it's been very effective. The Chiefs keep throwing the ball as if the sun is out and the field is dry. Their down 14-0 and I don't think they have the guns to make a comeback.

JMK
Dec 28th, 2002, 05:30:57 PM
Yeah, sorry about that one. Good thing it wasn't on a Sunday with alot of games going on. :)

Boy, the Raiders are completely owning this game so far. Not having Holmes hurts alot, but then again, Holmes doesn't have to defend the Raiders. They go for it on a 4th & 4? And make it? Pretty gutsy IMO...

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 28th, 2002, 05:42:46 PM
Well its hard for the Chiefs to adjust their back up running back wouldn't be a starter in the Arena League that is how bad he is. And since the rain is affecting their passing schemes they can't come up with a game plan, too bad Holmes is hurt this would be a perfect game for him.

Figrin D'an
Dec 28th, 2002, 06:43:43 PM
Looks like Oakland will have wrapped up home-field advantage in the AFC.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 28th, 2002, 06:56:24 PM
Really in the AFC Homefield means nothing, it hasn't for years, I think the only home team in the last 10 years to get to the SuperBowl from the AFC was Denver, and this year I think Oakland won't make it either.

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 07:01:03 PM
Stick a fork in this one, it's done. Curse you Akers! I could have gained to games today. Now I'm back to being 5 out. Even if the Titans win tomorrow the Raiders get HF because they beat Tenn. earlier in the year. But their HF advantage isn't nearly as strong as GB. That's going to be a big game for GB tomorrow. The Jets have a playoff spot on the line so they aren't going to roll over. The Packers have to be drooling over the prospect of HF. The Bucs must be kicking themselves over their Monday night egg. They could have had HF in their hands. Now they'd have to go to both Philly AND Lambeau. There's no way they can pull that off. I think everything will be settled by the end of the Sunday night game. I can't see any playoff implications in the SF/St. Louis game because SF is going to have to play a WC round either way I think. The Frozen Tundra awaits!

Figrin D'an
Dec 28th, 2002, 07:01:21 PM
Here's how things stand after todays games...

AFC

1) Oakland (x)
2) Tennessee (x)
3) Pittsburgh (x)
4) Miami (can clinch with win @ New England)
5) Indianapolis (x)
6) Cleveland (can clinch with win vs. Atlanta)

N.Y. Jets
Denver
San Diego
New England
Baltimore

NFC

1) Green Bay (x)
2) Philadelphia (x)
3) Tampa Bay (x)
4) San Francisco (x)
5) N.Y. Giants (x)
6) Atlanta (can clinch with win @ Cleveland)

New Orleans (needs Atlanta to lose and must win vs. Carolina)

(x) - Clinched playoff spot

Jedieb
Dec 28th, 2002, 07:03:37 PM
I think that Tenn. could easily beat Oakland. Those two teams are on the best run right now. Whoever comes out of the AFC East probably won't make it to the Championship game. The fins have the best chance because they can run the ball, but their defense has a history of collapsing in the playoffs and they've been pretty bad on the road this year. I don't see the Dolphins winning in both Tenn. and Oakland. Those are the 3 most dangerous teams in the AFC IMO.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 28th, 2002, 07:05:26 PM
I think if Tenn plays Oakland again they will want some revenge for that game earlier this year, I think they would take them out easily, that is just my feeling Tennessee, is the hottest team right now and they seem like New England destined for something.

JMK
Dec 28th, 2002, 07:16:22 PM

Hey, as its the final week, can we have a score so far? :)

JonathanLB
Dec 28th, 2002, 10:38:09 PM
0-2 for me -- serves me right for trying to pick an upset. For the record, though, I really like Oakland and am glad for their victory, so that's nice.

Same goes with the Giants. Good for them. But, who really cares? They are going to lose by at least two TDs at San Francisco immediately, so it doesn't matter, IMO. They are not a good football team. They're above average, but I wouldn't really classify them as any good at all. They did everything wrong Saturday and still somehow won, which is impressive, yes, but it's also pitiful.

"Well I am glad New Orleans didn't get in they didn't deserve to make it after losing to the Bengals"

Amen, I agree with you there. I lost all respect for New Orleans after a while when they didn't prove they were for real. They didn't deserve to make the playoffs.

At this point I think the Niners should just hold back their key players who are recovering in any way from any injuries because the Niners do not need to win Monday. It is less important than whether or not I sleep on my right side or my left side when I go to bed tonight. It means NOTHING. They are hosting a wild card playoff game, then they're going to have to go on the road after they win (and I'm confident they will), so that's that. If they are going to make the Super Bowl, it'll be on the road after a few tough wins. Unfortunately this is probably not the year for the Niners yet either. I am hoping really hard and dangit I want to see them kick some Green Bay butt, but in GB? That's not going to work. :(

I say Green Bay vs. Oakland in the Super Bowl.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 28th, 2002, 10:55:36 PM
I say Tennessee vs Green Bay. I despise Oakland I spit on them but this is coming from a Chiefs fan.

Jedieb

The NFC Wild Card round:
NFC matchups
New York Giants at San Francisco

Atlanta Falcons/N.O at Tampa Bay Bucs

If the Falcons lose and the Saints win then N.O. is in. All Atlanta has to do is win and they're in. Their tie with Pittsburg gives them a better record than the Saints. The Bucs are praying for an Atlanta win because I don't think they want to face N.O. again. The Giants at S.F. should be an interesting game. Kerry Collins has beaten the Niners in SF and in the playoffs before. He's not going to be intimidated by that team. The Giants D was phenomenal yesterday. Strahan and company can put some serious pressure on Garcia. But I don't see how they can stop Owens and if Garcia has to run enough that may actually produce some big plays for SF. I'd have to pick SF, but I don't think a Giants road victory would be a shocker.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 10:06:07 AM
Bill Parcells or Dennis Green?
On the surface, Parcells seems like the obvious choice. But if I were looking for someone to come into Big D and STAY there, I would go with Dennis Green. First off, Green is a winner. Yes, he's fallen short in the playoffs, but he wins games. Second, Green would stay in Dallas for the long haul. I can picture Green in Dallas 5 years from now. You're only going to get Parcells for 2, maybe 3 years tops. I don't know if that's enough time to turn things around in Dallas. They've got no QB, Emmit at best only has 1 or 2 years left. Offensively, they have to start from scratch. Green is the better long term choice, but I think that Parcells has to much star power for Jones to ignore

JMK
Dec 29th, 2002, 11:39:12 AM
I hope the Niners destroy the Giants, but the G-Men have been such an enigma this year, who knows if they can't play the game of their lives? Jeff Garcia WILL choke if any real pressure is put on him, and with Strahan running around, that's a real possibility. Still, I hope the Giants get clobbered. :)

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 11:43:38 AM
Keyshawn Johnson is on ESPN babbling about why his numbers aren't impressive. It's always one excuse after another with this guy. He's not fast. He can often get shut down without a double team. He's not one of the 10 best receivers in the league and his numbers PROVE that. I hope Tampa dumps him at the end of the season.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 11:47:30 AM
More bad news for the Bucs, Brad Johnson's back may not only keep him out of today's game, but a first round playoff game as well. The Bucs can't go anywhere without Brad Johnson. Shawn King is too inaccurate and Rob Johnson is one of the dumbest QB's in the history of the league. Uggh.

JMK
Dec 29th, 2002, 12:06:29 PM
Keyshawn is a dumb, fat idiot. He used to have talent & potential, but his big mouth and fat head have ruined all of that with a wrecking ball. He's just showing up for the paycheck and going home.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 12:44:32 PM
As closely as I follow the Bucs, I wouldn't say that you're right about his work ethic. My problem with Keyshawn is that he simply does not have the talent to back up what comes out of his mouth. Yes, he works hard and he blocks like a maniac, but it pretty much ends there. He's not fast, and he creates situations that hurt his team. Remember his big 1 reception game against the flashlight Jets? The game in which Crebet showed him up big time by catching the winning TD pass? Keyshawn's mouth gave the Jets all the motivation they needed and then he got shut down for the entire game. Basically, he's a solid #2 or #3 receiver, that's it. He's not in the same class as Harrison, Owens, Moulds, or Moss. He THINKS he is, but he's not in their league. The Bucs are paying him like he is and that's only making his ego worse.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 12:57:00 PM
Ricky Williams is a STUD! That's 2 TD's and that second one was a beauty. He used a stiff arm to get outside and then turned on the jets to get into the end zone. When they're good, the Fins look great, but when they're bad....

jjwr
Dec 29th, 2002, 01:40:47 PM
Ricky's good but he's not that good :) The Pats D-Line is awefull, people have been running outside on them all year. It really is painfull to watch.

Dolphins are a decent team with good people, if they beat the Pats(and it looks like they will) I hope they do well in the Playoffs.

JMK
Dec 29th, 2002, 01:42:54 PM
I know what you mean. They are looking great today, but they usually stink on the road. Williams is a machine! And Thomas and Taylor are drawing all kinds of attention from the Pats O line. Still Thomas comes up with the fumble! Great game so far! Looks like Ricky will easily wrap up top rushing honors this season!

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 01:49:41 PM
I think he is that good. He's beat up on a lot of solid teams this year and it looks like he's going to win the rushing title. He's playing the best football of his career. Obviously, Miami was the perfect situation for him. Still, the 3rd quarter has started and the Pats are still dangerous.

jjwr
Dec 29th, 2002, 02:21:33 PM
No doubt he's good but everyone has rushed on the Pats this year so I wouldn't use this as too much of a gauge :)

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 02:45:55 PM
He's just crossed 1,800 yards and has a shot at 1,900. They weren't ALL against the Pats. It only seems like they were. ;)

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 03:10:13 PM
I don't I've ever seen a team get more breaks than the Pats. A Pass Interference call that should have been on the offense. A 60 yard kickoff that miraculously bounces BACKWARDS and pins the Dolphins inside the 5. Then the worst punt of the day puts them in FG position. OMG!

jjwr
Dec 29th, 2002, 03:16:14 PM
He's just crossed 1,800 yards and has a shot at 1,900. They weren't ALL against the Pats. It only seems like they were.

Yeah no kidding, the Pats can't help but get these breaks!

Seriously, how could that call have been defensive pass interference? Pure b.s. Another brilliant game by Ricky wasted. He rushes for 228 vs Buffalo and they lose, he runs for 185 vs the Pats, they lose. I can't understand how they blew that game. :(

Once the Pats made it 24-19, I knew there would be no stopping them. Then once it got into OT, I couldn't even watch and I gave myself a loss in our contest.

That call was simply hideous. You could see the Pats receiver grab the defenders shirt and then push off. Simms thought it was offensive PI at first. Unfreakinbelievable....

I think if the Jets lose the Dolphins go in as a WC, I'm not sure. I'm going to look over the scenarios at ESPN.com. But if the Jets win the Dolphins are out.

jjwr
Dec 29th, 2002, 03:52:18 PM
It would be either them or the Browns, both are 9-7 with a 7-5 conference record, not sure about all the other tie-breakers though.

If the Dolphins make it they better whoop on those Jets(assuming the Jetse make it)!

JMK
Dec 29th, 2002, 04:06:37 PM
It seems the Pats always end up on the right end of a crappy call. Last year's tuck, and now this. It was still an exciting game, but the outcome could be seen a mile away once the Pats scored that TD.

The Dolphins get in if the Packers beat the Jets. I'm definetly pulling for the Pack even though I took the Jets in the contest. JMC is 9-1 today, there's no catching him now. :lol

Jedieb

If the Jets win then BOTH the Dolphins and Patriots are OUT of the playoffs. Cleaveland and the Jets would get in with a NY win.

Jets win
1.Oakland
2.Tenn
3.Pitt
Jets
Indy
Cleveland

I'm not sure about the seeds for 4-6. If the Jets lose then it's;
1. Oakland
2. Tenn
3. Pitt
Indy
Pats
Miami

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 04:26:38 PM
You know the Jets would love to eliminate 2 of their division rivals. Can you believe that no other AFC West team besides Oakland is heading into the playoffs? 6 weeks ago it looked like they'd be sending 3 teams into the playoffs. What a season.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 04:44:02 PM
Holy cow, Favre is freakin' amazing! Some of you guys talked about Favre worshiping earlier, but that last series shows he's earned a lot of it. He made some amazing throws in that last drive and had a lot of dropped passes. He's throwing the ball as hard as I've ever seen him. That was a big drive by GB. If they go into the half down 3-14 they're in serious trouble. 10-14 and some momentum should give us another great second half.

Alright, updated playoff standings...

AFC

1) Oakland (z)
2) Tennessee (y)
3) Pittsburgh (y)
4) New England/N.Y. Jets
5) Indianapolis (x)
6) Cleveland/Miami

NFC

1) Green Bay (y)
2) Philadelphia (y)
3) Tampa Bay (y)
4) San Francisco (y)
5) N.Y. Giants (x)
6) Atlanta (x)

(x) - Clinched playoff spot
(y) - Clinched divsion title
(z) - Clinch home field advantage

NFC is all decided execpt for final seeding.

AFC is still open in two spots. If the Jets win, they win the AFC East, and Cleveland gets the last wildcard spot. If the Jets lose, New England wins the AFC East and Miami gets the wild card.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:02:29 PM
If Tampa wins they get the #3 seed. If they lose and the Niners win then SF gets the #3 seed. If GB loses then they may drop to #3 because Tampa beat them head to head.

The Jets scored on their opening possession. 10-21.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:19:05 PM
The Jets look unstoppable. 2 second half possessions, 2 TD's and an 18pt lead. I think this game shows how much GB needs HF. Without it, they're just an average team with a good record.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:31:42 PM
Too many tipped passes by Packers receivers. The Jets have taken an INT deep into GB territory and it looks like they're headed for another score. Wow, that NE win has really sparked the Jets and their fans.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 05:44:09 PM
Wow, the Packers have thrown in the towel and put Peterson in the game for Favre. He really didn't play badly. He wouldn't have been in a position to throw that INT if Bubba Franks had held on to the ball he threw earlier. Now GB is going to have to go on the road at Philly or Tampa. Philly has got to be loving life. McNab gets an extra week to rest and practice. If Tampa loses tonight tomorrow night's game is going to mean something for the Niners.

Dec 29th, 2002, 06:05:09 PM
Think of how things looked 6 weeks ago in the AFC. All of the following teams have missed the playoffs;
Denver
San Diego

Miami
New England

And who got in? Cleveland and the Jets. WTF?! o_O

jjwr
Dec 29th, 2002, 06:12:25 PM
Jets played well and won some very tough games, Cleveland on the other hand. Its really too bad they're in there ahead of one of these other teams which is a better team.

2 Bungles games will do that for ya though.

This also shows that GB has been a tad bit overrated all year. They've been winning but very close games and have been heavily bolstered by a very weak division and a weak NFC, just like the Bears last year.

My 2 least favorite teams are probably the Jets & Packers, figures they were playing this game. After this game I think I dislike them both even more now, the Jets for winning and the Packers for rolling over.

And as Jedieb said this was a huge game for the Packers, they needed this game.

Figrin D'an
Dec 29th, 2002, 06:14:13 PM
If Tampa loses tonight to the Bears, Green Bay will get the #2 seed and get a first round bye. So, it's not guarenteed that they'll have to go on the road in the second round, but it does appear to be likely.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 06:36:03 PM
The Tampa game does matter for both GB and the Niners. I keep scratchng my head about Cleveland. They're arguably the weekest of all these 9-7 teams. But the Dolphins and Pats have no one to blame but themselves. The Dolphins had yet ANOTHER December collapse and NE couldn't stop the run for most of the season. So now we've got the playoffs and no really dominant teams on the horizons.

I'm not certain, but isn't this the first time BOTH Superbowl contestants have missed the playoffs the following year? I know that in the past aging teams have one last title and then collapsed, but I don't ever recall BOTH contenders failing to make the playoffs.

jjwr
Dec 29th, 2002, 06:50:14 PM
Patriots and Dolphins definetly both blew it. Had the Patriots won last weekend they would have buried the Jets and been able to clinch with a Dolphin win but they couldn't do it.

This may be the first time neither has made it in, the Pats made a good go at it and 9-7 isn't horrible by any means, at least they didn't totally collapse like the Rams did :)

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 06:56:03 PM
The Bucs can clinch the #2 spot tonight with a win. They need the bye because Brad Johnson needs time to heal. I really think the only shot they have is if someone comes along and upsets Philly. I like their chances against GB in Tampa, but they're not going to beat Philly at the Vet. So what are the WC match ups for next weekend?

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 07:17:01 PM

Wild card matchups are:

AFC

Indianapolis at N.Y. Jets
Cleveland at Pittsburgh

NFC

N.Y. Giants OR Atlanta at San Francisco
N.Y. Giants OR Atlanta at Green Bay OR Tampa Bay

The NFC Wildcard weekend all depends upon the outcome of this evening's Tampa Bay/Chicago game

What a crazy day, a lot of 9-7 teams won't be going to the playoffs. I think now they need to think about adding one more Wild Card to each conference otherwise this will probably be happening a lot. And I agree about Cleveland they are going to get slaughtered against Pittsburgh especially without Couch, also the Colts can beat the Jets, IMO. And thanks Jedieb, I had a great week, still I would have rather lost the contest and had my Chiefs made the playoffs. Oh well there is always next year.

I think the Giants are a scary team right now. The Falcons have lost a lot of momentum since their loss to the Bucs and I don't they'd pose a big problem for some of the top seeds. I think that if the Giants were to play Philly in that second round they could surprise the Eagles and pull off the upset. But that match depends on a host of other factors. I don't see any other team going into Philly and winning.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 29th, 2002, 07:56:10 PM

Dec 29th, 2002, 08:05:14 PM
Tenn. is hot and I like Pittsburg. The Steelers are lucky they DON'T have HF. But I think it's going to come down to Tenn. and Oakland. With Oakland you never know. Rice and Gannon could get unconscious and stun them.

Jedi Master Carr

Dec 29th, 2002, 08:19:18 PM
I think McNair has been a great QB for awhile. I just think he's been overshadowed by Eddie George and the Titans style of play. He could have easily won that Superbowl. The year the Ravens won I thought Tenn was the better team. Their defense was almost as good and they had a better offense. If not for poor special teams play they could have beat the Ravens and rushed for over 100 yards in that game. Now that George has been slowed by injury and wear, McNair has finally been allowed to throw more. Tenn can easily make another trip to the big game. But I still think Oakland is dangerous.

Jedieb
Dec 29th, 2002, 10:06:55 PM
Well, it looks like the Bucs have wrapped up the #2 seed and the bye. As good as they looked tonight, they weren't at their best. They're at their best when Brad Johnson is in there. They have NO shot without him. If he can get healthy and someone can trip up the Eagles then the Bucs may have a shot. But Johnson has to be in there and they've got to be able to run the ball enough to loosen up the defense. Yes, tonight they played the hapless Bears, but that defense is good enough to win a championship. If only the offense could make a run.

Everyone picked the 49ers on Monday Night, so the final standings won't be affected, just the final totals. With that in mind, here are the Season standings:

Jedi Master Carr: 161-94 (.631)
JMK: 156-99 (.612)

Ishan Shade: 47-29 (.618)
Blade Ice: 46-34 (.575)
Dae Jinn: 6-10 (.375)

Winning Percentages are in parenthesis. The dashed line represents the division between those that picked every game for the season and those that did not. There was a possibilty a few weeks back of an overall wins champion and a seperate winning percentage champion, but as it turned out, JMC made that a moot point by rattling off 5 weeks of impressive picks. Starting in Week 13, JMC finished 13-3, 10-6, 10-6 and 11-5 through Week 16, and is 11-4 so far this week. That pretty much sealed it.

So, congrats to JMC as the regular season picks champ, in both total wins (161) and winning percentage (.631). :)

Playoff Picks will go up in a few minutes, so everyone will have almost a full week to make their choices for Wild Card weekend. Playoff wins/losses will be added to the totals thus far, and once the Super Bowl is over, the overall champion will be announced. There will also be a "Playoff Champion", for the person that has the best record in the playoff picks.

They were talking about that on Countdown. A bunch of the playoff teams had bad starts. I've never seen the AFC shake down the way it did. All those teams with records of .500 or better. You have to wonder if this is something that we'll get every few years now because of parity and the salary cap.

Jedieb
Dec 30th, 2002, 11:04:54 PM
Well, the Rams decided to pretend they were the team they use to be in that 4th quarter. That TD on 4th and 1 seals the game. The Niners should feel good that they don't have any major injuries. SF dominated most of the game so they really shouldn't feel bad. They had nothing to gain by winning the game. The Rams did manage to salvage some pride with that last quarter. Did anyone pick the Rams for tonight?

JMK
Dec 30th, 2002, 11:10:23 PM
I don't think so. I was hoping to stay under 100 losses on the year, but it looks like I'll land right on it. Good enough. True, this game meant squat to SF, but I'm sure they didn't want to blow it like that.

Jedieb
Dec 31st, 2002, 08:45:09 AM
The Niners had mostly scrubs in there and the Rams were playing like they had a playoff spot on the line. I think you have to look at how they did in that first quarter. That was a great starting drive, but they couldn't finish it off with a TD. They looked solid, but they certainly don't enter the playoffs with the roll that the Jets and some others have.

Today's games are at 4:30 and 8PM EST. I'm surprised that there's no 1PM game, but I guess they want those west coast ratings. It makes sense, but try telling the Falcons that an 8PM game at Lambeau makes sense. I think Vick may freeze in his tracks.

We do have a decent winter here, but it's nothing compared to Lambeau. It's not just the weather, it's the atmosphere and the history that's going to effect Atlanta. Throw in the fact that they struggled the last week of the season and I think Vick is in for a long day.

3 and out by the Jets D, then a couple of first downs that lead to a 56 yards screen pass for a TD. The Jets seem to have taken up where they left off against GB. I kind of wish ABC didn't have this game. I like Brent Musberger, but it's kind weird to hear two announcers call a game when they haven't been doing pro games all year.
