I love Nick BaKay. The guy is hysterical. I missed the bit with his wife this weekend.:(

And what's this?! CMJ takes part in a thread involving the NFL!? I think the words football and Saturday must have been too much for him to resist. :cool

Hey, I don't really follow the NFL much, but that Bakay stuff has been a Monday Sportscenter staple for months. Kinda hard to miss. :p

Miami vs Minnesota (As good as Minnesota is at home, they have one of the WORST rush defenses in the league. There's no GB in Minn. curse here. At least I hope not.)

Philadelphia vs Dallas (Someone has to stop Philly or they'll have HF in the playoffs. I just don't think Dallas is the team to do it. I think they've pretty much given up on Campo and the season.) :(

NY Giants vs Indianapolis (I was going to go with Indy, but I'm going with the Giants because I'm rooting for Tenn. to win their division. I like Dungy, Manning, James, and Harrison, but I don't think the Colts are for real. The Giants can pull this one out. But since I've picked them they'll probably fall on their flat on their face.) I've changed my mind. Strahan has a sore neck, the Giants have had some trouble with the run and they have a losing record against winning teams. The Colts have a winning record so I'm going with Dungy and Manning.

San Diego vs Kansas City (I was all set to pick the Chiefs but Holmes is out with that bad hip. The Chargers are still a risky pick because they've lost 5 of 7, but hey, you gotta roll the dice.)

Denver vs Oakland (Game of the week. I just think that Oakland is the better team. Plus, Denver's strenght is run defense, although you wouldn't know it by last week, and that's not an asset against the Raiders since they don't run the ball much. Oakland sweeps them for the first time in years.)

NY Jets vs New England(I was going to take the Jets. But they looked pretty bad last week and I think NE is going to get desperate. But man, would I love to see NY prove me wrong.)

Pittsburgh vs Tampa Bay Go Bucs Go!

Pro Bowl Selections released and the Niners had 6 players on the NFC team, 4 offense and 2 defense.

I'm just bummed and disappointed that Jose Cortez, my very favorite field goal kicker, did not make the team!!! Wow. Ugg they need an Amateur Bowl team -- the worst group of players somehow in the NFL.

Bill Parcells and Jerry Jones had a 5 hour "secret" meeting this week. Holy cow, if you're a Dallas fan you have to be praying Jones can see the light and check his ego at the door. Parcells is probably one of the few coaches that you'd think Jones would defer to and accept a reduced roll. On Parcell's worst day I can't imagine him taking crap from Jones. Think of the hype surrounding the Giants and Cowboys division games now. This is probably not going to come to pass, especially when you consider how Parcells left Tampa Bay in the lurch last year, but it's about the only thing that I can see saving Big D. They're not going to get Holmgren (he'll be coaching San Fran next year) and I doubt Mariucci or Dennis Green would come to Dallas. This is going to be an interesting off season.

Taylor Millard
Dec 21st, 2002, 07:25:35 PM
Hrm? K I'm confused 'bout your last statement 'bout Mariucci leaving SF...since when is he leaving?

And YES if JErry hires Tuna...I'd sure be excited. With all due respect to Denny Green he believes in an inconsistant QB (Carter) and I doubt he would work in Dallas.

Parcells though...it might mean that Jones has finally realized Dallas needs to rebuild completely.

The AFC gets wilder, with Miami losing, is there a dominant team? I'd say its Tennessee, who are hot they could get home field and if so they will be in the Super Bowl in my opinion, they could be this years New England. Also looking at the schedule KC could make the playoffs but would need some help, namely, Miami losing to NE or NE losing the last two games, and Oakland losing to Denver, this is possible but of course KC has an injured Holmes which could hurt them in the end. Really the AFC is just insane this year.

Jedieb
Dec 21st, 2002, 09:48:19 PM
I think the Niners are going to cut Mariucci loose after this season. Especially if they make an early exit from the playoffs. Remember, this is the town that wanted to get rid of George Seifert in the same season that he won a Superbowl just because he'd gotten off to a slow start early in the season. They haven't offered Mariucci a contract extension and he's only got 1 year left on his contract. So there's a very good chance he'll be gone unless SF makes it to the NFC championship game.

The Dolphins had an injury last week that I totally missed. Left Guard Jamie Nails is out with an achilles injury. He's been having a great season and he's being replaced by a rookie. That's a killer injury for a team that's been running the ball as well as the Dolphins have. They had less than 40 offensive plays against one of the worst rush defenses in the league. I'd hate to think that their season could get derailed by such an seemingly insignificant injury.

The Cowboys look simply wretched. They look completely hapless on ofense. I can guarantee you one thing, if Parcells comes to town Bruce Coslett and the pathetic offense will be sent packing. They're afraid to use Emmit and aside from Galloway he's clearly the best offensive player they have. Just look at what happen on the last series inside the 10. Uggh.

The Eagles have just looked phenomenal this last month. It's just amazing what they've done without McNabb. I think they're going to go into the playoffs as the favorite to represent the NFC in the Superbowl. Unless the Giants can trip them up next week and give HF to the Packers, I don't see anyone stopping them. That includes my Bucs. I think the Eagles could probably take them in Philly or on the road at Tampa. Only the Frozen Tundra can stop the Eagles!

Figrin D'an
Dec 21st, 2002, 10:05:06 PM
Let's hear it for that Frozen Tundra! :)

You know... my only question about the Eagles though is "What happens when McNabb is healthy?" Now, of course, he gets his starting job back... that's not what I mean. It's just that, in McNabb's absence, the rest of the team, particularly that defense and the running game, have stepped it up to win games. They've done it rather impressively, too. When McNabb gets healthy, I have to wonder if the rest of the team will relax a little too much, and put the weight back on his shoulders again. In the playoffs, even at home, that could be very dangerous. McNabb is a great player, but after being off the field for so many weeks, he'll need the rest of his team to keep up their top-level play if they want to reach the Super Bowl. Otherwise, playoff disaster could ensue.

I agree, the Eagles are the favorites in the NFC right now... but they can't let up when McNabb returns, or they'll be toast.

Jedieb
Dec 21st, 2002, 10:17:34 PM
I think the only things that can stop the Eagles are the Frozen Tundra and a rusty McNabb. If he starts that first playoff game you may see him make some early mistakes. Mistakes that could end up costing the Eagles a close game. But if he can get past that first game then he'll probably get on a roll. That's a good point though, the team has grown so much in his absence that they may start to let up. But everything is so amped for the playoffs that the atmosphere and the Vet may take care of that for them.

The Cowboys keep tracing over their signatures on Campo's resume. Poor Dave.

Taylor Millard
Dec 21st, 2002, 10:54:25 PM
I'm still kinda hoping that Campo stays on with Dallas, as like a defensive coordinator or something. I really don't see him getting a job elsewhere.

He's not like Norv Turner, Dave Wannstedt, or Butch Davis. I don't see Campo going to a college or a High School.

Keep him on with the defense...C'mon Jerry...do a Tom Hicks...just demote Campo, don't fire him.

Of course it depends on A) If Parcells says, "yes" to a head coaching job in Dallas.

and B) if Parcells wants to keep Campo and if Campo wants to stay.

JMK
Dec 21st, 2002, 11:14:40 PM
Would a coaching change be the one magic tonic that would set the good ship Cowboy back on the right track? I don't think so.

And can anyone guess hpw disappointed I was at the Fish today? How do you lose to the Vikings? Brutal.

Taylor Millard
Dec 21st, 2002, 11:40:29 PM
Well...it depends. One thing Cowboy Fans are gonig to have to be (that they're not always) is patient. There is a potential (a POTENTIAL) that brining in a veteren coach, who can work with the younger players, and who is a proven winner, will help groom the team.

Dallas needs someone who can help bring along Chad Hutchinson as a QB, Antonio Bryant as a WR, as well as fix the offensive Offensive Line. The defense is fine and will be fine for another few years.

But that offense needs help. Bring along the younger players...and keep the older ones healthy...and Dallas'll have a chance.

If Parcells comes in with a plan...Dallas'll do fine. Look at KC...Vermiel had a 3 year plan...and in the second year they're close to being in the playoffs.

Figrin D'an
Dec 22nd, 2002, 12:09:19 AM
I just can't see Parcells with the Cowboys. Jerry Jones won't give up that much control, and Parcells will settle for nothing less than complete control over personal decisions, ie. a coach/general manager combo. Parcells will only return as a coach if a team is willing to give him total control, and if there are some building blocks already in place.

If Mariucci does leave San Francisco, which I agree is very likely, the 49ers will push hard to get Holmgren. It will be interesting to see if Holmgren will be willing to take the position as just a head coach, and not as the GM as well.

Taylor Millard
Dec 22nd, 2002, 12:18:01 AM

Dec 22nd, 2002, 09:23:03 AM
Parcells in Dallas probably wouldn't work. After a Superbowl Season in New England he left the team because Kraft didn't let him draft all of the players he wanted.

49ers are a interesting situation, Chris Mortenson from ESPN thinks he'll stick around for another year as he's got one year left on his contract but he was thinking you may see a situation like Gruden in Oakland, someone will want him and 49ers will get compensation in return for him rather than just letting him go.

Jedieb

i would find it hillarious if emmitt didn't hit a 1000 yards

Seeing one of the classiest and greatest players in the history of the league not reach a history setting milestone is funny why? I'll be laughing myself silly when he DOES make it. Thanks for the motivation. :shootin

Jerry Jones needs to accept the fact that life with Parcells would be very different. I don't think Parcells wants to be the GM. He just wants his own guy in the position and there's no doubt in my mind that Jones ISN'T it. Can Jones handle the idea that when he walks into the room he isn't the most important man in the room? That's the question. History would suggest that his ego is incapable of handling it. That probably what will derail their upcoming negotiations. Parcells is going to want his own people in certain positions and a diminished roll for Jones. Unless Jones is tired of losing and willing to step back, the Cowboys are destined to spend the next few years out of the playoffs.

BTW, did anyone see Jones on TV last week? He should fire his plastic surgeon. The man looks like a freak! I think Campo will catch on somewhere as a defensive coordinator. The Dallas D has been solid the last few years and Campo has a solid reputation as a defensive coach. But no one is going to offer him a head coaching job.

Lots of good games today. This should be fun!

sirdizzy
Dec 22nd, 2002, 12:24:18 PM
because i have always disliked emmitt and the cowboys, plus i though Barry Sanders should have all the records or that Walter Payton should have kept them rather then emmit getting them

i can see the cowboys handing off to emmit to get him to the milestone then benching him once he gets it like they did with payton's record

Man Kansas City is playing pretty good Green just threw a 99 yard TD to put them up 21-6 over SD. SD's offense doesn't look good. Well if KC wins and don't make the playoffs we can at least keep the Chargers out. What about the Giants they are playing great, I guess Tennessee will clinch the division as long as they win.

JMK
Dec 22nd, 2002, 03:50:57 PM

Dec 22nd, 2002, 04:23:30 PM
I'd like Emmit regardless of what team he's on. I give props to players on plently of teams that I hate (Jerry Rice and Montana are two in particular). Emmit deserves the record because he earned it. He's shown nothing but respect to Payton's memory and his family. They're honored that it's him that broke the record. As for Sanders, he left the Lions in the learch when he retired in his prime. They even had to come after him for the money left over on his contract. Barry fans should be upset with Barry and not Emmit. All Emmit did was not quit, Barry did. I still like Sanders, but Emmit toughed it out and he's got the rings, the MVP's, and the rushing titles. Bottom line, he's earned every thing he's gotten.

What the hell was I thinking with the Bears? The Chargers fumbled away the game at the end. They were 10 yards away from FG range, uggh. The Raiders are handing it to the Broncos so that's going to keep me from having a complete disaster. The Giants stepped up big and the Saints got derailed by the Bungles. The G-Men have a shot now. They've got something to play for against Philly next week.

JMK, I'd be honored to punch you in the mouth. Then you can return the favor for my Bears pick. :)

JMK

Denver's got a first and goal at the 7. It would be huge if they can score and put themselves on the board...

JMK
Dec 22nd, 2002, 04:53:56 PM

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 22nd, 2002, 05:41:02 PM
Finally my Chiefs won that was another nailbiting game, if they had blew that game I would have been really angry. At least they won't have a losing season and if they can somehow beat the Raiders (Holmes would have to be healthy, IMO) they could get into the playoffs, but they would need a lot of help either, Denver would have to come back here and KC beats Oakland and at the same time either Miami or NE lose out or Indy loses there last game (unless KC already has the tie breaker there I am not sure). I did pretty good this week, I have no clue how I come on so strong, all the sudden, I spent much of the season in 4th or 5th place and now I might win the thing :p

JMK
Dec 22nd, 2002, 06:15:45 PM
Bless those Browns who just keep finding ways to win in the dying seconds of games. They've saved me from a bad batch of late Sunday picks. If only I would have used my head and realize how much St. Louis sucks I'd be in the midst of a great week. Oh well, not bad so far. :)

It looks like the Giants will be in the playoffs if they can beat Philly next weekend. The Saints loss today really hurt them. Even if they win next weekend they need a Giants' loss. It looks like the Giants have the edge in the tie breaker. HF is still up for grabs. I think the Giants recent surge may have Philly sweating it. The Giants may have the momentum to give them hell next weekend. You know the Bucs and Packers will be Giants fans next weekend. If the Eagles lose the Bucs would have HF no matter what GB does because they beat the Packers. GB need both for both Philly and TB to lose at least 1.

The Titans and Raiders are in. The Colts need to wait and see what the Steelers are going to do. I don't think they'll be going to far however. The Chiefs, Broncos, Chargers, and even the Browns still have a shot.

JMK
Dec 22nd, 2002, 10:21:41 PM
Has it ever been like this? The number of possible scenarios out there is downright scary. The way AFC teams are going after each other, the NFC may have the edge come playoff time because they will have been able to rest some players. So what's JMC's lead now? 3 or 4 games with one week left? No problem! :p

I'm really starting to wonder how LD manages to have such good weeks so frequently. Something tells me she knows more than she is letting on... ;)

Any team that losses to the Bungals doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs. :p

The Giants are on a roll right now. I knew this past Monday I was going to pick them over Indy, as soon as I saw Jim Fassel's weekly press conference. He was fired up, and I knew that would rub off in his team. I expect them to be even more charged up now that they control their own destiny for the last playoff spot. I know no one wants to pick against Philly right now, but the Giants can beat them if they play like they did against the Colts. Dangerous game for the Eagles....

One also have to wonder if Tampa Bay will continue that amazing losing streak in cold weather... that game in Champaign next Sunday night will definately be below freezing, and the Bucs have never won a game when it gets that cold. The Bears are pretty pathetic, but still... the Bucs seem to find a way to lose when the mercury drops below 32 degrees. Of course, they could have a tough game against Pittsburgh on MNF first, especially if Brad Johnson doesn't play.

Green Bay will have a tough game against the Jets next Sunday as well. Amazingly enough, if New England beats Miami, the Jets can win the AFC East with a victory over the Packers. New England would slide into a wildcard spot (likely), and Miami would be out all together. Talk about crazy...

At least two AFC teams FINALLY clinched playoff berths... that helps clear things up a little. So many people are jumping back on the Raiders bandwagon... I still think, even if they get home-field throughout, their inability to run the football is going to cost them. The team to beat in the AFC playoffs will be Tennessee, IMO, particularly if they get a first round bye and have that extra week to get healthy.

One more wild week to go, with a myrad of scenarios that could come to pass...

LD is amazing! lol, she is a goddess of this. I do not understand how she does so well. Beating the pants off a bunch of guys at football picks. Now that's impressive. :)

So what does everybody think of Sanders possibly joining the Raiders? I really don't know how much help he could be. Yeah, they're banged up, but Deoin has been out of the game for awhile now. There's no way he's in game shape. How many plays would he be good for? Throw in the fact that he lost a step after that toe surgery and that he's another year older and you're not talking about the fastest guy in the NFL any more.

Bad blood tonight. You know the Bucs want to pound the Steelers in response to last year's "paper champions" beating. This should be a tough game tonight. Brad Johnson is going to have to win the game by throwing around 40 times. The Steelers can be thrown against and that's where I think the game will be won.

It looks like Shawn King is going to start for the Bucs. I don't know if Johnson's ribs are acting up. One thing is for sure, Rob Johnson is one of the dumbest QB's in the league and they're much better off with King in there.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that Jones and Parcells are continuing to talk to each other. I think things will heat up as soon as the season is over.

And the Bucs get off to an underwhelming 0-14 start. What is this, 1984? Ughh.

Well that's pretty much the game. The Bucs have their second turnover inside the red zone. Once again, Rob Johnson proves that he's one of the dumbest QB's ever to play in the league. He took 3 sacks and then fumbles the ball away with the goal line in sight. That pretty much sums up his career. He has all the tools that make combine guys drool, but once the game starts he makes boneheaded play after bone headed play. There's no reason for Gruden to bring in B. Johnson now. The margin is too wide. The Bucs can kiss HF goodbye and that probably means they can kiss a trip to San Diego goodbye as well. :x

Yeah it would be hard for them to win in GB, heck all GB needs is Philly to lose and they are probably going to the SB.

I guess I look a little smarter after tonight... I was the only one to pick the Steelers. ;)

If you want to see how Crazy the AFC is look at this

http://msn.espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/1203/1470397.html

Now Baltimore has the craziest chance, though this year who knows. KC still has shot but Denver will have to lose but who knows anything is possible.

Well JMC I think one of us tied for second would have to go 16-0 next week and have you go a mere 10-6 to beat you, and that's bloody unlikely at this point. I can't believe the Bucs stank it up that badly though!

Jedieb
Dec 24th, 2002, 10:12:24 AM
So are we going to extend the season into the playoffs or not? It's our only hope of catching JMC!

I think we should go through until the Superbowl, just so we still have a contest going :)

I still think JMC should have the distinction of being the regular season winner, provided he hangs in there.

Hey guys, come on, cut me some slack here, let's extend this through the regular season in 2006 so that I have some chance of winning, what do you say?! ;)
