That's two for GB. As much as I'd love to see GB beat the Niners, just like they did in the playoffs last year :) , I think GB is too banged up to pull this game out. I may change my pick before game time, but as of now, I just think Favre is missing too many parts to get the job done on the road. If it were a December game in Lambeau then I wouldn't hesitate to take the Pack.

I think I'm going to regret this, but I'm gonna go with Favre and the Pack over the Niners. Hearst is banged up and SF has been struggling over the last month. The Packers are banged up and have no business having the record they do with the injuries they've had, but I think that Favre can pull it out. Especially if Green can have a big game.
Pack 28
SF 24

JMK
Dec 14th, 2002, 09:24:24 PM
I think the Niners will end up needing this game more than the Pack and will pull it out. What else do the Packers have to play for? Will the distractions the Pack has faced over the past week be a factor in the game? They haven't been as sharp lately, so that leads me to believe the Niners will squeak this one out. 28-27.

Jedieb
Dec 14th, 2002, 10:01:39 PM
At least by picking GB I can enjoy the game tomorrow without any internal conflicts. I just wouldn't have as much fun watching it if I were rooting for GB on one hand while simultaneously wanting SF to win so I could win a game here. The only thing the Pack have to play for is the outside shot at HF. They're in striking distance of TB and Philly. If either one falters they could sneak away with it. HF is the only way the Packers can make it to the Superbowl. I should be rooting for SF and a Philly collapse to clear the way for my Bucs.

jjwr
Dec 15th, 2002, 09:29:55 AM
I just can't pick the Packers right now, they're away from home and playing a team that hasn't been playing up to its own expectations.

I could see that young 49ers defense coming out and having a great game. Owens is going to eat up that GB Secondary and if Hearst is feeling well then he should have no problem running against the Packers.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 10:18:09 AM
Jerry Jones may FINALLY have come to his senses. If Mike Holgrem gets the boot in Seattle Jones may end up hiring him at Big D. The hiring will probably come at the expense of not only Campo, but offensive cooridinator Bruce Coslet as well. If Holgrem does stay in Seattle then we may see Coslet promoted to head coach. I don't see Coslet doing any better than Campo. Holgrem may be the only chance the Cowboys have of getting back to the playoffs this decade.

Oakland's Charles Woodsen is a game time decision. That would be a HUGE injury for the Raiders. You know they want to put 8 in the box to try and stop Williams. I don't see how they can do that without Woodsen at the corner spot.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 15th, 2002, 10:29:30 AM
Owens might not play for S.F he will be a game time decision. I think GB can win that game, it should be close.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 10:32:51 AM
I heard he's got a groin pull. He must have hurt himself celebrating. ;) Even if he does play, a groin pull is brutal to play through. It's going to affect his YAC.

Actually, it's his hamstring. That could actually be worse.

JMK
Dec 15th, 2002, 12:09:38 PM
You can't possibly be effective with a hamstring pull. It's such an annoying injury, the best you can do is hop around on one leg.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 12:41:39 PM
"All he does is catch touchdowns!"
There's why Carter can be such a great addition to the Dolphins' offense. That 1 handed catch is nothing out of the ordinary for him. They don't need Carter to be their #1 reciever or to stretch the field, they have guys that can do that. Carter is the perfect #3 receiver at this point in his career. The Raiders seem intent on stopping Williams and Fiedler has been able to make them pay. Let's see if it holds up.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 15th, 2002, 01:20:20 PM
17-3 though Oakland is on Miami's 10. I am rooting for Miami because if KC wins out then they win the AFC West :)

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 03:03:07 PM
The Raiders came back but the Dolphins made some big plays down the stretch and held on. They dominated that game. Oakland really needed to have Woodsen in there. Miami went deep all game long and kept the chains moving. Big win for the fish. It looks like the Bucs are going to hang on in a surprisingly close game with Detroit. The Bills look like they may get their heart's broken by Flutie and Christie. Poor Bills.

The Falcons missed a 37 yard FG on 3rd down in OT. Uggh. The Seahawks drove the length of the field and Alexander won it with a TD. Vick brought them back and forced OT, but what can you do when your kicker chokes? Quite a few upsets today; Minnesota, Seattle, and Chicago all won.

The bad weather is making the GB V. SF game into a defensive battle. Hearst is hurting but he's not doing too badly. This game looks like it's going to be a low scoring affair. I think the team that can get its running game going will pull it out.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 04:26:12 PM
What a HUGE turnover in the KC/Denver game. The Broncos were ready to go up 21-0 and Portis fumbled in front of the goal line. The Chiefs may be able to stage some kind of a comeback in the second half. The Broncos are dominating that game and they could have been up as much as 28-0.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 15th, 2002, 04:30:21 PM
I know I was about to give up than Portis fumbles that ball that was huge, KC has a chance with their offense. Their Defense has got to play better they can't keep giving up yards like that drive.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 04:52:32 PM
10-6 Pack. Go Pack Go!

jjwr
Dec 15th, 2002, 04:53:38 PM
Well a few good things happened this weekend, sadly the Dolphins won but that ones ok for now :)

Bills won, yay the Chargers drop down in the Wild Card, the Jets lost, that should help the Wild Card and the AFC East as well, I was really hoping Cleveland would pull out that win but blew that one.

Course most of this is moot if the Pats pooch it on MNF :)

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 15th, 2002, 04:55:33 PM
KC back in it what a play by Hall 75 yards and most of it was him, he is amazing the way he darts around he is hard to tackle.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 04:56:29 PM
KC strikes back!
7-14
If Denver lets this one get away it'll all go back to that fumble. This second half should be sweet.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:06:24 PM
16-6 Pack. They forced Garcia into a turnover and drove in for a TD. They're dominating the time of possession. SF's defense has got to be exhausted. Still lots of time left and SF has been running the ball. If they get desperate and try to force the ball in the air too much they'll play into GB's hands. I think switching my pick may actually pay off!

It looks like Denver has answered back. They're inside the KC 10.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:18:55 PM
The Niners just got back into with a great catch by Owens. In Denver Portins just made a spectacular run that's basically knocked the Chiefs out of the playoffs I think. It's going to take a miracle for KC to pull that game out in Denver. Maybe if the sky suddenly got dark and Denver found itself in a night game?

In NY I think the Cowboys are writing Dave Campo's resignation for him. 0-27. :x

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:25:58 PM

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:31:38 PM
KC heads into the 4th quarter after scoring a TD to get to within 14 points. And the Pack forces SF 3 and out.

Taylor Millard
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:33:27 PM
You know, if I were Dallas...I'd take a page from the Dallas Stars and make Campo Defensive Coordinator again and get a new head coach.

THe Stars did it with Rick Wilson when they hired Dave Tippett...and they're the best hockey team in the NHL.

Why not hire a new head coach and make Campo Defensive Coordinator again?

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:41:07 PM
It takes a pretty small ego to be able to handle that kind of demotion. Campo probably could do it. He's been in the organization for years. I just don't know if he'd be willing to relinquish power like that. Plus, if someone like Holmgren came in he'd probably bring in a slew of coaches with him. I don't think he'd want the former head coach hanging around.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:44:07 PM
GB had to settle for a FG from inside the 15. It looks like the stage is set for another SF comeback. I wonder how GB's defense is going to play it. I think they should stay aggresive and not change a single thing they've been doing. Their defense has been effective for most of the game, why change now?

Taylor Millard
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:50:37 PM
Well the Dallas defense (despite a couple problems) has been consistant this year. It's the offense that needs work.

And not a new QB...just a healthy offensive line. Maybe a couple tight ends too.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:52:38 PM
2:07 to go and SF is driving. They're using a spread offense and a no huddle so GB is having to put in more DB's than they've had througout the game. I think they're easily going to be able to drive withing striking distance. Garcia just scrambled for a first down, but I think there was a hold... Defensive holding, 5 more yards added on. They can start chucking it into the endzone now.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:53:32 PM
Vermeil needs to fire his defensive cordinator because with a defense they would be great, they do something in the offseason unless they can somehow perform a miracle.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 05:54:14 PM
KC continues its circus season by getting to 21-31 against Denver with 8 minutes left. Garcia is getting some work done after running into Gilbert Brown on the sidelines. That's the last person you'd want to colllide with!

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 06:00:28 PM
30 seconds and the ball inside the 20. I knew it would come to this. That missded FG is going to end up costing GB big.

KC is going to kick a FG to get within a TD with just over 2 minutes left. Hey, shouldn't someone be coming by to tell us why the Niners are still better than GB and the rest of the NFL?:lol

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 06:11:11 PM
If KC could force a 3 and out they could get the ball back with almost 2 minutes left. More than enough time to force OT. Those crazy Chiefs! On a bad note, Holmes is out with a bruised hip.

Jedieb
Dec 15th, 2002, 06:49:34 PM
KC gave it a run but they came up short. Not a bad week, but the AFC West cost me this weekend. SD and KC came up short for me. D'OH!

JMK
Dec 15th, 2002, 07:04:26 PM
Atlanta surprised me by losing in OT. New Orleans losing also came as a shock, seeing as though they were looking so good, and playing the Vikings at home. And SF's loss at home to GB confirms it to me; Garcia cannot win a big game. After second down with 7 to go and plenty of time left for the game winning TD, they didn't gain a yard. Chumps.

On the other hand, I got a pick with the Giants right!!!!! That makes me 5-9 in Giants games this year! :lol Good thing I changed my pick from the Bungles to the Jags JUST prior to kickoff or this would be a crap week for sure!

Lady D., I think I'd pay to see that dance!:cool

I still don't think Denver is going to make it to the playoffs. They've got to go to Oakland next week and I think the Raiders are going to be looking to bounce back after today's loss to the Fins. I don't see Oakland losing 2 in a row right now. Plus, Denver still has major problems. That wasn't exactly a dominating 4th quarter against KC.

Figrin D'an
Dec 15th, 2002, 09:34:55 PM
San Francisco got their one win against Green Bay in the '98 playoffs. No more are allowed. :p

Very messed up week. Not much changed in the NFC, except for Tampa Bay clinching a playoff berth and Philly clinching their division title. The Giants are suddenly back in things if Atlanta or New Orleans collapse (which could happen... both of them had kind of demoralizing losses today). The AFC is still just as much a mess as it was when the day began... going into week 16, and no AFC team has clinched anything yet. The best teams are 9-5. There are 8-6 teams on the outside looking in at the moment. Crazy...

I honestly don't know how you guys did so well... I really didn't pick any upsets, I picked the better team in every game, and yet I had a horrible record. That's amazing! I mean how am I supposed to know that Atlanta is going to lay an egg or that San Diego is going to get blown over or that the Raiders are going to be terrible?

New Orleans losing? Yeah, right, nobody would pick that unless they were really going to be gutsy!

Oh well, I made all of the smart picks, but this week you have to have taken big risks to have a good record I guess. My only somewhat risky pick was Houston winning and that didn't happen. Everything else was totally unexpected -- I am surprised you guys did so well mostly! That's remarkable.

jjwr
Dec 16th, 2002, 06:23:29 AM
It really doesn't take much to have a good week, the big upset I picked was Buffallo and the rest I Just went with momentum and who I thought would pull it together in time for the playoffs.

Sadly the Niners and Raiders lost but I can live with that as I still did ok.

Jedieb
Dec 16th, 2002, 06:56:16 AM
Aside from the upsets (Vikings, Bears, & Seahawks) the week played out the way I expected. The Chargers did a good job on Bledsoe, but their running game didn't dominate the way I thought it could. After getting burned by Ricky Williams I thought the Bills would be easy pickings for Tomlinson. Bringing in Flutie gave the Chargers a spark, but it wasn't enough. They've lost 5 of their last 7 I believe so it looks like they've run out of steam.

The one team I've been convinced has been a bit overrated has been the Saints and I think this weekend sinched it for me. You're looking at a defense that hasn't been able to keep anyone from scoring less than 20 points all season long. They swept the Bucs, but the first game went to OT and the second one was a 3 point win at home. I'm hoping they meet again in the playoffs to settle the matter. But even if they do beat the Bucs in the playoffs (they match up well against the Bucs) that defense is a sieve that won't get them into the Superbowl. I just don't see them beating a team like GB, SF, or even Atlanta (who's swept them).

The Chiefs have been unpredictable all season long. Just when it looked like their defense was starting to improve they reverted back to their early season form. Denver almost gave it away at the end, but they dominated that game for 3 quarters.

The Dolphins looked great yesterday. They get the tenous "Best Team in the Conference" award for this week. But that damn thing has more fingerprints on it than a Hooters' girl bra strap. I still think Oakland is going to win the West. Miami was one of the few teams this season to get some pressure on Gannon and the absence of Woodsen was just devastating. Fieldler kept going deep on them over and over again. He just wasn't afraid of the Oakland secondary.

As I said earlier, the Cowboys pretty much got Campo fired yesterday. That was just embarrasing. After a good effort against the Niners the Boys just phoned it in. An embarrasing performance all around.

Pretty good game tonight. I think both teams tonight could make a big statement with a win tonight. The Titans could prove that their recent 7-1 run is for real and the Pats could remind everyone why they're the defending champs. BIIIG game tonight!

Dec 16th, 2002, 09:20:56 AM
Ummm. I am actually 10-5 so far this week.....thank you. :D

As for the Dolphins.....SWEET!!!!!!!!!!! Oh man did they look good yesterday. They played hard on every side of the ball against an Oakland team that is truly one of the best. I really cannot say enough about Jason Taylor. The guy is a beast...3 sacks! That puts him in first for sack total which is something he deserves so much. Did you guys know that he is on trial against his father at the moment? Yeah it appears as if his father pulled a gun on him so Jason pressed charges. How is he able to go out on the field every Sunday and play with this kind of intensity? It has got to be on his mind, and yet he doesn't seem to get effected! At the moment I would put him in first place for the Defensive player of the year award. He is so deserving of it...

Tonight's game is going to be big for the contenders. We're all pretty much split on the game;

NE
JMC
Reap
jjwr
dizzy
Snack
&Shade (has a shot at the week's best record)

Titans
jedieb
JMK
Sene
Figrin

With a NE victory Carr could open up an insurmountable 3 game lead with just 2 weeks and the playoffs to go. A Titan win and the pack closes in a bit. Well, at least I'll only be 2 games out. ;)

I looked at next week's schedule, it's a total NIHGTMARE!|I

I'll post next weekend's slate of games early (like tomorrow), since there are a few Saturday matchups.

You mean...I'm not a contender?! :cry

I can't believe I did so bad. If not for the fact that I just pick teams randomly.

Man the Pats are getting whooped. I had a hoops game tonight that ran late so I got home around mid 3rd quarter, checked out the score of 21-7, ok didn't look too bad. Brady INT for one score otherwise its a close game. Then I watch the next drive and see the Titans O Line dominate the Pats, and then the time of possession, 30 mins to 15....d'oh!

Same problems the Pats had earlier in the year, they're D-Line is undersized and not overly quick. Its old and versatile vs the Pass but against some great O-Lines they just don't have the beef up front to get some serious push and it shows against power running teams and its showing tonight.

They'll have two 1st rounders this year and a fair amount of cap space, build up that D-Line, get a few big bulldozers to go up front and maybe next year they'll be able to stop the run on occasion.

Way to go Titans! A- They bring a few of us closer to the top, and B - It gives the Dolphins some breathing room atop the AFC East. Now if only the Dolphins can win in Minnesota next week, they can lock up their division! Of course the Pats could tie them at 10-6 if they win their last 2, but I believe the Dolphins hold the tie breaker, no?

I'm comin' for ya Carr!!!

The Titans looked very impressive last night. They dominated that game. They made the plays NE use to make last year (INT returned for a TD). I was very impressed with how they adjusted to NE's no huddle in the second half. After NE came out and scored a TD to narrow the game to 14-7, the Titans came out with 6 defensive backs to counter Brady and that produced a quick turnover that led to 6. They bullied and pushed NE around on both lines of scrimmage for the rest of the half. Didn't McNair look impressive? The guy couldn't warm up without grimacing and he dominated the first half with his legs and his arm.

The Titans have quietly snuck up on the league. They've been out of the national spotlight for months. I was struck by how different they looked on offense than I've seen them in the past. George just isn't running the way I've seen him. I think the carries have finally caught up to him. He had a good game last night, but it was the O-line that really dominated and wore down the Pats last night. McNair has now reverted back to his college form and his airing it out. He made some really nice throws last night. If not for a 1 point loss to the Ravens (the Ravens needed a defensive TD to win that game) the Ravens would be on a 9 game winning streak. I guess they get to share the"The hottest team in the conference" award with the Dolphins this week.

As for the Dolphins and Pats, I the Pats would hold the tiebreaker if they won next week and the last game of the season against Miami. Miami and NE would have split the season series and the next tie breaker for the division title is your record within the division. The Dolphins would be 2-4 (Curse you Lucas!) while the Pats would be an impressive 5-1. Miami needs to win out or hope that the Pats lose again next week. Here's the bottom line in the AFC, with only 2 games to go NOT A SINGLE TEAM HAS CLINCHED A PLAYOFF SPOT! In all the years I've watched NFl football I don't think I've ever seen anything like this. You always have playoff spots getting determined on the last day of the season, but someone always has a division or a spot wrapped up by this time. Any one of these hot teams could see their season end with a little 2 game losing streak. Unreal.

I know this is insane, Jedieb. Also I will watch out for you, two weeks till I win :) Or fall behind four people, the way the NFL is who knows.
