I agree with you Marcus, still that Hot Chick movie looks even worse I wish that thing wouldn't even make the top 10 it looks that bad. I hate these gender swaping movies, they were funny back in the days of Tootsie but now they are just stupid.

Awful weekend this is. Obviously dumping into the market and trying to make something beofre TTT undoubtfully tidal waves the market. I really think TTT is goign to amaze us, especially if it gets a decent threatre count.

There is nothing more certain than TTT will win next weekend by a huge margin!

You should read Ebert's trashing. It's hilarious. Damnimly, it's a short review too, like he didn't want to waste time.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 13th, 2002, 07:46:39 PM
I saw that of course Ebert has bashed Star Wars and LOTR so I don't trust him anymore.

Marcus Telcontar
Dec 13th, 2002, 08:08:36 PM
Oh, he's not that bad. Granted he did have expectations of FOTR that were not met (Which was the guts of the review - I wanted somethng, I got something else I didnt really like) overall he's pretty okay. I prefer James Benatelli, I always read his reviews, esp as his tastes seem to match mine fairly well - what he likes I generally do as well.

The biggest problem I see is that there are calls that Critics Suck (tm) when they diss out somethign we had hopes for / liked ourselves and that Critics Rule (tm) when they approve of soemthign we like. Critics are just giving their opinion in most times and opinions are (to put it crudely) just like <smallfont color={hovercolor}>-Censored-</smallfont>s - everyone has one. Some are better than others, some aint worth listening to.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 13th, 2002, 09:55:18 PM
Well that is why I generally never listen to them, I diss them all the time :p

wow drumline did better then i thought it would, the previews looked so bland and boring

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 14th, 2002, 08:06:17 PM
I heard Drumline was having some sellouts so I am glad I changed my numbers I could have a very good weekend, finally. Still the race for #1 should be a lot closer than I thought, both films will be over 20 but the difference could be a few million if that. If Maid wins it looks it will be another bad weekend for most of us.

Marcus Telcontar
Dec 14th, 2002, 08:24:27 PM
If that Lopes crapfest wins, it means the end of World is here.

Ugh.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 14th, 2002, 08:35:29 PM
Unfortuntely its a chick flick so it might, I'd say it will be close. Right now I am guessing that Star Trek will win and it will make 23-25 million
Main will make 20-23, if the audience for ST disapears after Friday though watch out. I am also not sure about the Hot Chick, I would not be shocked to see it fall out of the top 5 and go as low as 7th the next three films are only a million behind it and all three could do better on Sat and Sun to pass it.

Damn, that is close, hopefully those numbers change come Monday or else we will all suck this weekend, I got Drumline right and I think somebody picked DAD 4th but beside that most of us will tank this weekend unless the numbers change.

I hope it chages... I still cant believe Crap in Manhatten could win the weekend.

That could mean... a SEQUEL!!!!!

They're called w-o-m-e-n. ;)

You ought to know that the B.O. isn't controlled only by dudes and dude-movies.

After all look at the mumber 1 all time flick.

Heck look at the adjusted number 1 all time movie.

I've always had a lot of trouble believeing Titanic got to where it did on chick factor solely. There are other reasons and I suspect more accurate ones.

Still...

I stand by my original statement about the target demographic of Crap in Manhatten

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 15th, 2002, 04:37:55 PM
Well what happened is Star Trek is dead the franchise is over really (why Paramount has come to term to this I don't know) other than the fan base nobody went to see it that is bad, it shows that it is finished, I will probably barely make 50 million now if that. And Maid will get beaten by Two Weeks next week (in terms of Women) I expect that to be #2 right now.

sirdizzy
Dec 15th, 2002, 07:22:13 PM
i think i am the only one who went with the hot chick at #5 so theres some points for me

Nice to see that Harry Potter is continuing its fall significantly.

There is now absolutely NO chance of Harry Potter 2 beating Star Wars' 5th installment. I like that. Puts that franchise in its place.

There's only one Star Wars. No other franchise will ever manage to be selling this many tickets on part 5. Wait until Episode III, which I think will (like ROTJ) pick up more viewers because of it being the last film in the trilogy/series.

Even AOTC is not much below Harry Potter 1, really. Barely at all. Such a small difference that it can be chalked up to no more than the time of year or margin of error. Same with LOTR: FOTR.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 16th, 2002, 01:15:16 AM
Well Jon Harry Potter will beat it world wide it will make at least 700 WW could even pass 800 and Spiderman it is making a lot of money overseas which shows how popular it is internationally.

JonathanLB

And I care because why?

I don't care what the rest of the world does. I live in the U.S., not worldwide, but here in the United States. A flawed country with problems, but still the best, IMO, and I don't really give a rats behind what people in France or India spend money to see.

This is the only country where I think it is fair to measure box office success because these are AMERICAN movies made by AMERICAN companies for primarily AMERICAN audiences, even if HP is a British creation, the films are American just like everything else, and it only matters how well a movie does in its home country.

People in the U.S. don't appreciate Hong Kong films as much as people in Hong Kong, so I care much more about how well an HK action flick does over there than how it does here. It's all about home country.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 16th, 2002, 12:33:48 PM
Harry Potter is not really an American movie, all it was was distrubited by an American studio and directed by an American. It is based on an novel writen by and English person, has a cast made up of almost entire British citizens, has almost an entire British crew and filmed in England. Do I would call it more of an International production and I would consider LOTR and Star Wars the same sure all are funded by American studios or individuals, and in case of Star Wars one man. But it still it was made by a lot of different people aroudn the world which is fascinating to me and shows the complexities of the movies now, especially epic films.

Sorry, but I dont care what anyone says. If the idea is British, and 99% of the cast is British, it's British :)

And if the contest is for the US boxoffice, then it's dominated by non-US-ians ;)

I TOLD you guys that Movie Order penalties suck.

I'm surprised that 3 movies were guess in the correct order.

Yeah I see that Darth I think it has to with the fact as well that Star Trek and Anayalize that have underperformed in fact everything this holiday season hasn't done as strong. Harry Potter2, I thought for certain it would make 270 at least and it is a better movie. Sure its scarier and darker but there is no other family movie out there. One thing that could be affecting it is holiday shopping people are shopping more this year than last, the numbers are up from what I heard. This could be affecting the box office as less people will be going to the movies, it makes a lot of sense, really. I still think Harry Potter will make 250 domestically could still make 260, maybe. Still it will make 800 WW because it is doing very well overseas, it is dropping no more than 20% a weekend and it has allready made 300 million overseas should make another 300 easily I think since its doing so well, regardless it will defintely pass AOTC as #2, could pass Spiderman it will probably end up battling it out with TTT as #1 movie of the year.

I guess this week's a good example of that. I was by far the closest on Star Trek and Die Another Day, and I walk away with a big 0. :\ Oh, well. I'll finish what I started...
