Funny you mention that... as I told you over AIM (I'll repeat it now for the benefit of those who weren't present), the Star Wars Insider published what was either a letter to the editor, or an article, where the similarities between the Vietcong and the Ewoks was mentioned, almost in your exact words. I still have the issue somewhere in a pile. The reason I remember it is because very controversial fan-letters were published afterwards for another two issues, until it was mentioned that they would not longer be printing anything on the related topic.

Lex Hazzard: Star Wars made it seem like a humurous and light hearted battle, but in reality if you think about it it was a lot like vietnam, except i gues the VietCongs had rifles, and the ewoks had... erm... rocks and sticks...

And as for their VC style of fighting: guerella fighting is guerella fighting. During the American Revolution, the Yankees "didn't fight fair," according to the British. They used techniques picked up from the natives, such as sneaking up silently and firing on them when not expected. The ewoks, like the VC and the American revolutionaries, just used stealth and the materials at hand, that's all.
