WINSan Francisco vs Dallas
WINIndianapolis vs Tennessee (Really tough game to pick. Tenn could easily win this game. But I'm going with the Colts because of Tenn's weak secondary and their recent close calls.
St. Louis vs Kansas City WIN
Buffalo vs New England WIN
Houston vs Pittsburgh WIN
Atlanta vs Tampa Bay WIN (This is a statement game for both teams. Whoever wins takes first place and makes a claim for best team in the league. I think the Bucs are going to rebound from their second close loss to NO and sweep the Falcons.)
NY Giants vs Washington WIN (The Skins should be able to take advantage of the G-Men's depleted secondary. Then again, Spurrier could forget he has a great RB in Stephen Davis and force too many passing plays.)
WIN Cincinnati vs Carolina
Cleveland vs Jacksonville WIN
WIN New Orleans vs Baltimore
WIN Detroit vs Arizona
WIN Philadelphia vs Seattle
WIN Oakland vs San Diego Another tough game. The Raiders are playing really well. As long as they don't shoot themselves in the foot by trying to become a running team they should win.
WINDenver vs NY Jets Griese and Sharpe are returning. Nuff' said.
Minnesota vs Green Bay WIN

Chicago vs Miami WIN

I'm leaving the tough games bland for now. I'll be making my final picks on Sat. Man this is gonna be a great week of football!

So far, I feel sorry for anyone who chose Atlanta...

Or St. Louis (this was an obvious pick, no offense -- the Rams SUCK and the Chiefs have been playing some incredible football).

I really don't care for the Bucs, I've always hated them, stupid uniforms, stupid logo, stupid mascot, idiotic style of play that is boring to watch, never can play offense well, they're an ugly football team with lame fans. Nonetheless, I figured they would pummel Atlanta. I like Atlanta now, but I hated them a few years ago with that STUPID, gay dirty bird dance. Made me want to puke. Jamal Anderson, can't stand that guy. I like them better now because Vick is cool and they're really a different team. Plus, the "Falcons" is a cool name -- Jamal just tainted it with his idiotic dirty bird dance when a falcon is anything but a dirty bird. It's a graceful, powerful hunter. Damnit. That fool. :)

I don't think anybody picked St Louis, I still had my doubt, the Chiefs defense has been chaotic this season so I had no clue what to make of that Arizona game. Now they are winning 35-10 and there defense is playing great, a DE returned a fumble for a TD (42 yards wow) and Hall (who should make the pro Bowl as a KR) had a Punt return a Kick return for a touchdown. Now why haven't the Chiefs defense played like this before the last few games?? And if they hadn't blew that Seattle game there chances would be really great. Still with Buffalo losing, Cleveland losing both help KC. Indy losing only helps if they lose another game.
And what about Pittsburgh, they are not very good, IMO. I wish KC was in that division they would have won it easily.

Well the Giants and Redskins have been the most unpredictable teams in the NFL, I haven't been able to figure out either.

Figrin D'an
Dec 8th, 2002, 02:28:19 PM
On paper, the Redskins looked like a good pick this week because the Giants are without both of their starting cornerbacks. Unfortunately, I think Spurrier got over-zealous in that knowledge... they're forcing the ball and making poor decisions.

once again... no pick is safe. Houston beating Pittsburgh at Heinz Field? Good lord, and the Steelers are supposed to be a contender?

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 8th, 2002, 02:30:41 PM
Its not over yet for Washington the Giants are falling apart again they could easily give that game up.

Lame fans! You deserve the upset the Cowboys are layin' on your Niners. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! ;) But those Bucs have a much better shot at making it to the Superbowl than the Niners. You're dreamin' if you think that's happening this year.

Poor Bungles. Those first 16 points were all produced by the defense I believe. They just can't catch a break. The Redskins had the Giants reeling until Bailey fumbled a punt that led to a Giant TD. Ughh.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 8th, 2002, 03:00:40 PM
Redskins are still in it only down by 6. Cleveland and Buffalo are both done basically. Kansas City is still alive need to probably win 3 straight. If their defense keeps this up they could do it. They had I think their best game this year, why couldn't they have been playing this way all year? Barring a miracle it looks like Tennessee will be in the driver seat for the South Division title. This is going to be a wild final 3 weeks.

LOL Jedieb well we know S.F is still going to win the division they could go 8-8 and win that one it is the weakest division in the NFL though the AFC North isn't far behind. And did you see Cleveland came back. They were down by 6 with like 30 seconds left and Couch threw a hail mary to win the game that is unbelievable, they have a chance to win their division and it might only take 9 wins, the way Pittsburg is playing.

STUPID, STUPID CAMPO!!!!! He goes for a 47 yard field goal instead of a 4th and 1 that would have sealed the game. You're out of the playoffs. Why are you being conservative? Of course they missed and now they've got great field position. It's probably over. Son of a .....

Jedieb
Dec 8th, 2002, 03:32:54 PM
I KNEW IT!!!! STUPID, STUPID CAMPO!!!! First he had Hambrick in on 3rd and short instead of Emmit (who only had 2TD's today) and then he blows the 4th down call. I swear, the Cowboys will never get back to anything resembling a contender until Jones fires not only Campo, but himself as GM. Unbelievable.

JonathanLB
Dec 8th, 2002, 04:52:26 PM
The Niners have just clinched their division and now just need to work on winning the next game, which is going to be very hard. Heck yeah to this win, though. This is very good indeed. :)

Now they need to win out and see if they can get home field... that'll be really tough.

This was a key comeback because it proves, once again, Garcia's ability to make plays when the game is on the line. He is a great competitor and Owens is one of the best receivers in the NFL, maybe ever. Time will tell that, though.

Go Niners!

JonathanLB
Dec 8th, 2002, 05:11:36 PM
EB, Tampa Bay is playing very good football and I do think right now they'd beat the Niners, but thankfully there are a few weeks left in this season and the Niners will be ready.

Make no mistakes, the Niners are a serious Superbowl contender. They are one of the league's top teams and will be ready when the time comes.

WTF? The Texans scored 3 defensive TD's! I don't think Maddox should have played the second half. He was obviously off the mark. The Steelers D only gave up a FG and they lost by 18 points. Unbelievable. The Steelers are going to limp into the playoffs and play the part of canon fodder for whoever they go up against. Man, this team has taken a slide.

I can't get over how well the Eagles have been playing. The Bucs stepped up big to beat one of the hottest teams and QB's in the league, but Eagles have really rallied together after McNab's injury. I didn't think they had it in them. They've got the tie breaker so even if the Bucs win out, the Eagles would have home field. Tampa won't beat Philly at Philly. The Bucs are playing great, but I don't know if they can get past Philly or NO. Those 4 teams are the class of the conference. Maybe GB can get it going tonight, and they probably will, they've had so many injuries that I don't see them going that far. They'll have trouble taking on the Niners next weekend and home is pretty much on the line for them next week. Without it, they can't make a run.

Oakland looked really good today. They handled a tough SD team and have really been on a roll now. The Chiefs are scary, but they've got a brutal schedule here on out. Tenn. looked tough today so I wouldn't be surprised to see them go deep in the playoffs either. Denver is done.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 8th, 2002, 07:08:30 PM
If KC wins out they will make it to the SB and win it all, I just have that kind of feeling about them if they can get get through at Denver, SD, and Oakland. I think they will win two of those games for sure but 9-7 wouldn't satisfy me like playoffs would. This is how crazy the AFC is, but KC could win out and then win their division, Oakland would have to lose to either Miami or Denver. And then KC could get a first round bye that is how crazy the AFC is.

Figrin D'an
Dec 8th, 2002, 07:22:56 PM
At this point, I'm not convinced home-field advantage means much for any team in either conference. It's all going to come down to who gets hot these last few weeks and starts playing complete games going into the playoffs. Those will be the teams to beat.

Jedieb
Dec 8th, 2002, 07:32:36 PM
I think HF is important for some teams. The Bucs aren't going to win on the road against certain teams, especially Philly. Even NO would be a tough road game for them. Take the Packers, with HF they'd be a clear favorite for a trip to SD. Two NFC teams that I think can go on the road and win are NO and Philly, but the Bucs and GB are pretty much out of luck without HF. Now in the AFC HF is probably useless. Even the Dolphins, who you'd think would be lost without warm weather, now have a running game that can carry them in the cold weather. Oakland can play well anywhere as can SD. But going over the AFC playoff scenario is useless until the last week of the season so I'm not even going to bother!

JMK
Dec 8th, 2002, 08:20:06 PM

Wow, ugly week! 7-7...d'oh! Some ugly upsets and I lost a few late in the game(Damn those Browns!!!!).

I was really pulling for Indy to knock off the Titans, that would be one less AFC Wild Carm team in serious contention but the Titans had to make it interesting.

Course the Jets win too, I picked them but I was really hoping they would lose the game, that would have made things that much easier in the AFC East.

I'm seroiusly hoping for a Bears upset on Monday, come on Bears!!!!

Jedieb
Dec 8th, 2002, 09:23:59 PM

Figrin D'an
Dec 8th, 2002, 11:08:36 PM
The real unsung hero of that game was WR Robert Ferguson. He's been, really, the 4th receiver for the Packers, and has not gotten much playing time, but he had a career game. He got hot in the second half, Favre saw that, and kept going back to him.

And how about that shoe-string, falling backward catch by Donald Driver?! He's quickly becoming one of the best receivers in the league.

I hope Ahman Green and Tyrone Williams are healthy for next week... Green Bay will need them against San Francisco.

It's too bad Detroit didn't hang on to beat the Cards, that would have made it a very good week.
How about Pittsburgh getting their dead carcasses handed back to them? How on Earth can you be in a playoff race and lose to an expansion team in front of your own fans?? They didn't even show up!

Edit: Thanks to Taylor for pointing out my brain cramp. Although the Lions do find ways to beat themselves, today the Cards beat them. :)

Whoever wins the AFC East is going to EARN it.

Miami:
Dec. 15 Oakland 1:00 PM ET
Dec. 21 @Minnesota 1:30 PM ET
Dec. 29 @New England 1:00 PM ET

New England:
Dec. 16 @Tennessee 9:00 PM ET
Dec. 22 NY Jets 8:30 PM ET
Dec. 29 Miami 1:00 PM ET

Jets:
Dec. 15 @Chicago 1:00 PM ET
Dec. 22 @New England 8:30 PM ET
Dec. 29 Green Bay 4:15 PM ET

Providing the Dolphins win tonight, you'll have an 8-5 log jam at the top of the division. The Dolphins could win out, but I don't know how they'd fare in a tie breaker against the Jets. They've split the season series, but the Jets have a better division record while the Dolphins have a better conference record. If any of these teams manages 11 wins they'll be heading into the playoffs as hot as can be. I don't see how any of them can manage it, the schedules are just too tough. In fact, I think the Pats could easily lose all 3 of their games. I don't see a Wild Card coming out of here because the AFC West is even tougher. Someone else can cover that division, I don't have the time or the resources. :rolleyes

Colts
Dec. 15 @Cleveland 1:00 PM ET
Dec. 22 NY Giants 1:00 PM ET

Dec. 28 Kansas City 5:00 PM ET

Chargers
Dec. 15 @Buffalo 1:00 PM ET
Dec. 22 @Kansas City 1:00 PM ET
Dec. 29 Seattle 4:15 PM ET

Chiefs
Dec. 15 @Denver 4:05 PM ET
Dec. 22 San Diego 1:00 PM ET
Dec. 28 @Oakland 5:00 PM ET

Denver (Stick a fork in them, they're DONE!)
Dec. 15 Kansas City 4:05 PM ET
Dec. 22 @Oakland 4:15 PM ET
Dec. 29 Arizona 4:15 PM ET

The Colts and Titans have the easiest schedules. Tenn. should be able to win 2 out of 3 of their games. If they take out NE next week they'll be in great shape to possibly steal HF from Oakland, which has a really tough schedule. All of the AFC West teams are going up against each other down the stretch. This is really a great schedule if you look at it. These last weeks are going to have some awesome match ups. I don't think any of the 7 win teams have a realistic shot. Someone from West (besides Denver) may end up getting left out of the playoff hunt. I really think the Chiefs have the toughest road to the playoffs. But if they can win those 3 tough games then they could ride that momentum all the way to SD. This really is turning into one of the more entertaining seasons in recent years. Provided SF loses in the playoffs. >D

LOL, Jedieb. I agree with you on KC, I am glad at least they have a chance, still they should blew a couple of games because of their Defense, I think they probably should have won 8 or 9 games by now, if their Defense hadn't blown a few games (Seattle, Denver, SD, and NE) they probably would be looking at home field. Maybe the way the defense is playing now will be a postive thing for next season.

Your mouth has to be watering for next season. They made some improvements as the season went along. A free agent here and there, a solid draft, and who knows how far KC could go next season.

Yeah plus they had two huge injuries this year on defense, Jerome Woods a great FS and their #1 pick last year Ryan Sims a great DT, who I think is going to be pro Bowler in the future. Both of those players will be back next year to join Greg Wesley who is developed into a great SS (should make the pro Bowl this year with 6 INTs) Eric Hicks a great pass rusher, Mike Masowloski who has deveolped into a very good LB as the season has worn on. The only thing I am worried about is the CBS, neither one of them thrill me, I am hoping we can steal one next offseason, I hear one of the Rams CBs is a FA maybe we take that guy.

AFC East is gonna be tough, I know the Pats can beat all 3 teams that they're facing. As it is if they win all 3 they're in so its really up to them, if they can pull it off then they're going to earn their ticket to the playoffs.

Vs Tennesee should be interesting, they've had some problems vs mobile QB's but I have a feeling they're going to do very well in this game. The biggest problem will be getting going on Offense, Titans have always had a strong D.

Pats can definetly beat the Jets, Pennington is young and you know its a game that Belechik is going to have a field day with.

Then theres the Dolphins, thats gonna be a great game and a tough one. Its in New England which is a bonus as the Pats always do well against the Dolphins at home late in the year.

Sadly they could easily lose the next 3 but they could win them as well. Dolphins I think should go at least 2-2, wins vs Vikings and Bears with losses vs Pats and Raiders.

Jets, at a game back and a upcoming game against NE I don't see them making the playoffs, its definetly possible but a final game against GB who is fighting for home field will be a tough game.

The NFC is so boring this year, things are already set for the playoffs as there are so many crappy teams that the top teams have whooped up on to infalte their schedules. Lots of tough calls there, Atlanta is reliant on Vick, take him out and they're done. New Orleans is very balanced on offense bug hasn't given up less than 20 a game on Defense and that can seriously bite them in the playoffs. Packers, great record and its hard to go against Favre but it took a lot of luck to pull of a win against the Vikings last night, had they lost that they would have lost 3 of their last 4. Eagles are scary, people would say they'd be done without McNaab but they're cruising with him gone. Niners, I could see a one and done for the SF boys this year, just like the Packers, took a huge amount of luck to pull off a win against someone they should have crushed, lots of lackluster games lately as well. Then theres the Bucs. The offense is coming around, the defense is nasty, if they get home field they've gotta be the pick for the SB right now. If they lose it, well they better hope they break that 30 something streak of losses in games -32 degrees or it'll be a short off-season.

Well I think you are wrong about SF, JJWR, I think they will have their stuff together by playoff time. But if they keep playing like this, you are right, they will not beat anyone with a good record in any playoff game...

Well d'oh! Final tonight at 6-8 p.m. I am going to be like, "Dude, please hurry up with passing out the tests, I really want to get back to Monday Night Football. Thanks." Haha, no seriously though it'll take me like 50 minutes. The first midterm was the same length and took me 50 minutes, yet this one looks a lot easier from the description and outline, I can't wait. :) I've studied 8 minutes so far. Hoping to increase that to double digits here before I take the test. ;)

I took my Anthro 210 final at 7:30 a.m. today and that was just hilarious. I haven't been to lecture in 4 weeks, obviously didn't bother to get notes or anything because this is a video lecture class (taped lectures) and the book for the class sorta outlines it all anyway. Well I studied about 2 hours, took the test this morning, I only needed a 16/45 to get my C- in the class to pass and I'm sure I got a C on the test at least. The reason I only needed a C- is because I S/Ued the class so I just receive a "pass/fail" grade, meaning my actual grade doesn't matter whatsoever. I did that after I got a B- on the last test after like 4 hours of studying and attending every lecture. I may have done better this time without doing anything, haha.

Ricky Williams is freakin' awesome! Despite the turnovers, the Dolphins are dominating the depleted Bears. If Fiedler can just get back into game shape and provide the Dolphins with steady and dependable QB play I don't see a better team coming out of the AFC East. The Dolphins can run better than both the Pats and Jets and their defense is better. Their weakness over the last 2 months has been QB play. But with Carter as a 4th or 3rd option and Williams running like a beast Fieldler should be able to lead this team past the Pats and Jets. Miami's big hurdle may end up being that game against Oakland. Fiedler is going to have to be near perfect because you know Gannon probably will. BIG game next week.

I love seeing Ricky run wild like this! It's going to be his 2nd consecutive 200+ yard week! He might even break 1500 for the year tonight if he breaks for another big run tonight, giving him a chance at 2000 for the year!

Who is the leading rusher right now? I know Holmes has over 1500 yards but wasn't sure where Tomblison stood, man what a year we are going to have 3 backs over 1500 yards in the AFC alone and two of them will be close to 2000. Who would you guys say is the best back though? I may be biased but I will go with Holmes mostly because he is a great reciever as well, if the Chiefs make the playoffs I think he should be named MVP he is the reason they are even close to the playoffs, plus he has 24 (21 rushing) total TDS he could still get 30 total for the season. I am curious I know the record for total is 26 by Faulk who has the one for rushing, Emmitt smith?

They showed the stats earlier tonight. Williams just passed Holmes and Tomlinson is in 3rd place. Emmit has the rushing record and Holmes has a shot at both Emmit's and Faulk's records. I'd say that Holmes has had the best season. I wouldn't put Williams too far behind him though. Ricky hasn't had the benefit of great QB play all season.

How many TDs did Emmitt have that season 24 or 25?

Jedieb
Dec 9th, 2002, 11:18:41 PM
I think it was 25, but I'm not sure. The Dolphins have wisely taken Williams out. Stick a fork in this one, it's done. Hell, it was done before halftime. Poor Bears and poor Jim Miller. That's guy is just a wreck.

Its hard to believe that this Bears team won 12 games last year, they are pathetic, I think its a combination of the fact that they were really lucky last year and that they basically are playing 16 road games, I don't consider games played an 1 and half away from Chicago home games.

Right not Holmes is the best back, I'm curious what numbers he would have put up if Vermeil hadn't taken him out early of the last two blowouts. I think it was 3rd Quarter against the Cardinals and halftime against the Rams. Could easily have another 150-200 total yards and a few more touchdowns.

After seeing this guy play in Baltimore and knowing he was available I kept hoping the Pats would pick him up, he was a solid back who just hadn't had a chance. Though I doubt anyone thought he would do anywhere near this good.

Run Ricky Run.

Man this guy is awesome. Not only does he have the power, but he also as a great combinatin of speed and agility. He bouces around the front Defensive lineman like they aren't even there! I just love watching him break out those big gains! And now he's got the most rushing yards! Pretty impresive if you ask me :D

I think they got a good chance of beating the Raiders on Sunday. With Jay back, the Offense is looking pretty good. I really thing Norv Turner is going to open the playbook big time on Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a multitude of trick plays and deep throws. With Ricky able to kick up the running game it leaves the Dolphins with all kinds of weapons. :D

I am really looking forward to seeing Chris Chambers have a big day against the Raiders....I think all the signs point to them doing that....

Just 3 weeks? We still have the playoffs right, there is no reason to quit until after the Super Bowl, heck if it comes to one game lead the Super Bowl could be the difference.

I don't know if we should count the playoffs. Those are kind of different aren't they? They'll only be a handful of games and the contest may even be out of reach by then. We can keep going if everybody wants to. I'm just use to fantasy football where everything has to take place within the course of the season. Most fantasy leagues will be starting playoffs next week I think.

With Ricky dominating the way he is lately, and with Fiedler back, it's a totally different offense. I think its going to be a high-scoring game next week, but with the Dolphins on top. :)

I don't know if we should count the playoffs, there's just so few games. I'd prefer to have a separate pool for that.
