Funny, but look at it from the troopers perspective.
1. His vision must me slightly off in that helmet. Why else is thier aim so bad?
2. He was being attacked from all sides, his allies dropping like flys. They must have seemed like bloodthirst savages to someone as propagandasized as a Storm Trooper.
