View Full Version : Ozar Midrashim [2-on-2 challenge]
Gurney Devries
Nov 19th, 2002, 08:24:33 PM
Pulling his cloak tighter around his form, Gurney Devries crouched low to the ground, trying to blend in with his surroundings as much as possible. It reminded him of his days in the military, back when he was a strapping young lad. That felt like a lifetime ago now, with good reason - it really was.
The outside of his cloak shifted colors, fading from a dark, foresty green to a mottled, splotchy yellow-green mix that matched the leaf-covered ground quite well. He turned his head, looking at the woman behind him and speaking in a low voice.
"Are you certain they'll be here, Master? They can be quite unpredictable, from what I've heard."

:: AB needed no coverage as the surrounding greenery was her shield. Her padwan, crouching in front of her, knew where she stood as she let herself be revealed to him. But to others, she would neither be seen nor heard while in the shadow of the large oak and shrubbery she stood by. ::
:: Her voice itself seemed camoflaged as it sailed on the soft wind brushing the leaves of the large tree to their back. ::
They will show. They always show. It's in their blood not to turn down a challenge.

(ooc) I hope you guys are okay with my appearance... :)
(ic)
Hob smelled activity.
Swinging through the trees like an ape, and fully recovered from his trials at Arcan IV, he was engaging in exercise to restore some of that which he'd lost to the inactivity of recuperation. He wore his dark robe, and beneath that, his regular tunic and breeches. He was armed as well, with both a lightsaber and something else that he'd acquired recently- an illusion talisman that aided his concentration when manipulating the energy it took to craft his intricate visual creations.
Somewhere ahead of Hob, something was stirring. The Force flowing through his spirit told him that much, but there was great experience behind the Force stealth employed, and he could not discern anything more exact about the nature of the disturbance.
So he approached the small clearing near the oak with a measured pace of swings, smelling action and ready for it.

(OOC: Bless you, my boy! :))
:: AB felt more than heard the creature swinging through the tree tops. The vegitation and movement of the creatures of the forest communicated to her as much. ::
:: She smiled, speaking to Gurney through the Force. ::
Time to play.
:: Though she could not see the creature physically with her eyes, she could "see" it through the life-Force eminating through the trees it now used as it's personal stepping ladder. As it neared their position, she nudged the branch it stood on with the Force. The result was a loud creak as the subtle branch swatted at the creature, seinding it sailing through the air to land a few meters ahead of them. ::
:: It was then she revealed herself. ::
Nice day for a... sail... through the park.

Before the Hobgoblin could right itself, Gurney was on his feet, lightsaber in one hand, Mistryl dagger in the other. It was pure instinct; years of combat had left that habit ingrained in him. He took a step towards the creature, then stopped himself: His master should certainly be able to handle herself. But the second it looked like things were getting out of hand...
Gritting his teeth, he resolved to wait for the other one to show up. Then he'd have some real 'fun'.

Hob's body slid to a stop, pushing leaves into a small pile in front of his face. The misstep that arose from the branch's movement had thrown him off, and had Gurney fallen upon him then and there, Hob would have been hard pressed to defend himself.
But the Padawan stayed his hand, and Hob was allowed to get to his feet. He turned and looked at those who would be his adversaries.
Then he leaned his head forward.
At first, nothing happened. But the forces Hob were working with were complex, and required some premeditation, even if the task itself was relatively simple.
"Aye, 'tis a fine, fine day fer sailin'," he said as a distraction. "Dinnae the leaves seem so bright an' colorful? Are they nae a beauty t' behold?"

:: AB's eyes narrowed, one eyebrow raising above her left eye. Her gut told her he was stalling, but for what, she could only guess. Therefore, she prepared herself. And perhaps brought up a stalling of her own. So she answered his question with a single sentence. ::
A rainbow of colors.
:: It was then the leaves that he had slid upon and those surrounding him, began to blow and surround him, encasing him in a rainbow sphere. It was during this blinding storm of leaves that she "sunk" back into the forest, blending in with the surrounding vegitation. Any surprise he had would be met by one of her own. ::

How can a little green man move so fast?
How?
Zasz had been moving on the ground as he was watching Hobgoblin swing on the tree's. He was trying to remain as stealth-like as he possibly could so that he could observe Hob's mannerisms to better understand him.
Slightly behind him, he watched how he flowed through the branches. But, he heard a snap to the left and he looked, but by the time he looked back up to where his Master was....he was gone...
He had heard some commotion and the distinct Crack Hiss of a lightsaber blade. He arched his brow as he moved silently yet quickly through the brush to see what was happening. He looked through the tree's, only to see a man holding that lightsaber and a dagger, and there his Master.
But his Master was covered in a rainbow shade of..leaves? He looked but then stepped out of the clearing to be visible to the other man, his hand reaching in his black cloak only to pull out a silver handle.
..."Need assistance, Master?"...

More leaves skittered across the ground, joining the mass already shrouding the small greyish-green alien. They swirled, and they flew, and they formed a twisting tunnel the reached to the lowest branches of the trees around them.
Then there was a bang, and the tunnel blew apart. The leaves flew outward, snapping and cracking. They were on fire.
And the cleared air revealed Hob, wreathed in an aura of flame.
"Ye made it much easier, lass," Hob cackled. "T' burn down the forest will be more fun, with Jedi help."
The aura of flame shrunk, retreating over Hob's robes and into an open palm. The fireball it formed started a sooty red, but then went to an intense, bright blue indicating extreme heat. With a casual toss, Hob threw the fireball over his shoulder into the tree behind him. It struck on the outer bark and penetrated beneath. From the smoking hole a small gush of flame appeared, and then it began to smoke.
"Down, all will burn," Hob said quietly, giving a knowing nod to Zasz. "Nowhere to hide, will you have. Come out, or watch nature suffer."

:: AB grimaced inwardly as the watched the tree suffer a horrid fate, but she knew the tree would survive if quickly aided. It was the shrubbery around the tree that would perish first. ::
:: She answered the mocking voice, her voice carrying out like it were part of the wind. ::
All will not burn. Things aren't so black and white.
:: The sun overhead began to fade as a large cloud formed in the sky, moisture droplets gathering together to create a great rain cloud. The winds high in the sky blew strongly, gathering all the presipitation together and soon the sun was completely blocked out. ::
:: Within a few minutes after the blaze had started, tiny rain droplets began to fall from the sky. Pretty soon it was pouring nexus and vornskurs, drenching everything in the forest, and putting out the blaze. ::
:: As AB stepped forth from where she had hidden herself, letting herself be seen by the little green man, tiny vines began to grow around the little man's feet, taking on a thick, gummy-like form and wrapping themselves tightly around his ankles. More began to join their brethren, latching on to his waist and wrists, tightening as they continued to grow. ::
Nothing like a spring shower to bring up new life.

The vines grew sharp, taut, around Hob. The dwarf did not look at them, or take his eyes away from AB. His lips curved, showing teeth. One of his hands covered itself in black light, the tips of his fingers gently capturing the growing vines.
And then they began to slack. Though the vines fought viciously to bind the dwarf in place, they could not hold out against the sudden and unexpected draining of their life Force. Their shapes withered and shriveled as the energy from all was drawn, and Hob took a step, tearing himself free.
"And new life is preyed upon by old life," Hob said. "Nature's cycle, it is."
Hob held out his hand and took a step towards the tree he'd attacked earlier. Then, he took another step, slowly, deliberately. His intentions were clear.

Yes, nature's cycle, making the new stronger than the old.
:: She raised a hand and gripped him tightly in a Force hold, and tossed him to the side, where his back smacked rather loudly against a solid rock protruding from the ground at the base of a small hill. ::
:: She ignited her amythest bladed lightsaber, holding it at the ready, eyeing the little green man. ::

Feeling himself in a Force hold, Hob worked with the Force he'd drained from the vines, weaving it and some extra energy into a telekinetic shield that took the brunt of his impact. He got up from the ground and clasped his hands in front of him.
The dwarf blinked sleepily. "Leaping to the fight, yes, yes," he said, gathering the Force within him in preparation. "Give in to your aggression. Break your pacifist bonds. Then will you see the true way."

He thought in his mind..."Yes, give in!"
From afar he watched as his master gave AB riddles and facts. The forest was indeed burning due to Hob. Zasz grinned as h could be seen by AB, but wasn't really involved right at the moment.
He stepped back, watching Gurney as he unclipped his lightsaber blade from his belt. He ignited the blood red blade with a Snap hiss. He moved over to a tree, a rather old and tall tree, and he let the burning blade of plasma seep into it.
He cut it out, moving lightsaber from left to right. Immediately the tree began falling to the left, away from everyone. Zasz jumped back quickly to avoid it's falling...
